    The Glorious Numpad is pretty expensive so the question is, how does it stack to the competition and does it provide enough value for the asking price?

    It’s insane that there isn’t more functionality control for the slider and encoder. Think about all you could do in photoshop, brush size, opacity, hardness, layer control, etc. a miss in my opinion for that price point

      agree - given how expensive it is ($130 for a numpad) and how useful that would be, they really should just hire a software developer to implement that and/or open source their slider and knob software (API) (app) so others can do it easily without hacking

    I’m confused why they didn’t release a barebones version (with a choice of south/north facing PCBs - or both) for around $80. They’re already upselling us on so many add ons anyway.

    • @JTTR
      @JTTR  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      My guess is that the logistical overhead to handle a barebone sku with various parts is too high at the moment. It's much easier to stock and sell one complete kit instead of piecing it together.
      With that said, I do think a barebone option at a lower entry cost is critical.

      FEKER JJK21 Numpad is what you want I guess, doesn't come with a slider.

    Finally a review that's just reviewing the product for what it is instead of initially shaming it for the pricetag before justifying the cost.
    Also welcome back king!

    It's awesome. If for a majority of us enthusiasts who dropped $300+ on the TKL then don't even trip its equally nice.
    If already on the GMMK Pro its more versatile. In livestream & gaming, u can configure slide4 as mic mute leves & rotory for app or game independently of main keyword knob.

    Good review, thanks for actually giving it a fair shake, most of the videos I have seen on this just tear it down without really explaining the product very well. This was pretty objective and informative.

    That's a good thorough review. I'm going to point something out that Glorious and some other pad makers probably would prefer we didn't know. Rotary encoders are dirt cheap, like under a dollar a piece even in small quantities. in quantity, they likely cost less than good mechanical key switches. Using their output is dead simple as well. So don't be too wowed by seeing a few of them on macro pads and similar. Sadly, there is no slider equivalent. It would be cool if there were a slider that has detents along it's path and output the same signals as a rotary encoder. Then it wouldn't take an A to D circuit to covert it to a digital output and would likely be far more long term reliable.

    Your points on Core are spot on - overhaul it for continuity against the main lineup and bring it up to where it needs to be for the hardware on an individual level to enhance the feature set. Thanks for the review! Super solid stuff. 👏

    I got one to complement my Razer laptop. The pad is built like a tank and is almost heavier than the laptop! It is very nice with obvious quality. I like it. (my slider knob is not wobbly)
    Should you buy it? If you can afford it and want a num keypad built for longevity, get it now.

    Actually , I would have really liked a square slider like joystick that can be used as mouse control , or switched to custom joystick control that includes the logo as a subtle grip pattern, instead of what it is now, also maybe three side mounted mouse like buttons that can be mouse buttons with a mouse control switch or be custom programmable buttons. For $120-$150 i think it can be possible without loss of profit , and it will help if you want to watch Netflix on the couch and you only need to have an other switch button to convert the numpad buttons in media/programmable buttons.

    • @Narinjas
      @Narinjas 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      What this really needs is on board memory for key features save , and also a no software and performance clean use , having macro toggle switch for the numpad and mouse bits would be essential for use on TV / media / mobile devices.

    Can you add to your review your experience of using the Glorious Numpad with QMK firmware? You mentioned that the Glorious Core software has to run in the background and thats one of the reasons I didnt buy it before. But it now seems like the numpad can be customized with QMK and Im sure lots of people would be interested in this numpad with QMK firmware applied. Look forward to what you think. Thanks!

    I just want 5 full length Alp motorized sliders and oled displays to show programs below it. Maybe a mute toggle button below. Maybe a few status leds that show you if your internet is down or something is overheating.

    It's a really odd unit. The build quality and materials are there. Attention to detail is some areas but completely missing the mark in others. Rotary encoder is good and been done before, but the slider wasn't very well thought out at all, and seems like something they figured could be solved in software, then turns out they couldn't. It's a big standout feature that grabs attention of anyone who see's it, you would want to make sure it can be used for expected functions.
    I would 100% get this if it wasn't for that slider/knob limitation, even at that price.

    Maybe this question is out of the scope of this review but if you can tell, is that slider an encoder, like the rotary knob? Or is it a real, analog, sliding potentiometer? I apologize if this is way too off-topic. I'm an /mk enthusiast but also a tinkerer and this looks so interesting. Cheers!

    By the way, have this channel reviewed "nob", the rotary control? It's not a keyb but I think it complements a keyb to enhance productivity. Expensive as hell too, for a knob I mean.

  • @silentndeadly

    I would have purchased it if it matched the GMMK (shiny bevel on the case) After all it is called the GMMK numpad, not a GMMK2 numpad. They should remake the GMMK numpad and sell this as the GMMK2. Also I hate that the slider is so cheap feeling and can only control volume.

    My rotary knob skips, meaning some notches register as two notches-if that makes sense. Anyone else have this issue?
    In addition, battery life could be a lot better. Logitech needs to make a wireless numpad using their battery tech used in their wireless keyboards and Superlight mice. Glorious peripherals die too quickly.

    GMMK Pro is the worst keyboard in the entire world.
    was my first mech key board so i just thought that is what they were. It wasnt until i was bored with an extra $150 that i bought parts and literally built my own from scratch that i realized how bad that keyboard really is.

  • @MatthewSemones
    @MatthewSemones ปีที่แล้ว

    There are no features that "justify the price". There is no value in Glorious products. Not in their keyboards, not in their switches, not in thier cases, not in their kits, and not in this keypad. Overpriced across the board. It's as if they are under the impression that they are Apple.

    • @DeriqueDeCoux
      @DeriqueDeCoux 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      i think the value lies in their ease of use, just like apple products. Not having to install stuff from github or whatever and instead having core right on their website represents value for me. I am sure I'm not the only one. By your logic, logitech or any other 1st party manufacturer has no value. I will agree that they a bit overpriced, but in my very limited exp, the gmmk pro bareboners + switches is maybe 200$ (for me). While i know there are many options now that have better "value," i think when the gmmk pro was released that value didn't really exist in the market. I want to reiterate that I'm not a keyboard snob or advanced user by any means. For enthusiasts that spend $300+ i think its a bargain.
