I love coming back to your videos. Pirates was always a childhood favorite of mine. This set is no exception, though I got it second hand as a kid rather than new.
The hideout looks like the salvaged ruins of a Black Knight's expeditionary fort. (Just looked, and an alt-build for the 6085 Black Monarch's Castle actually resembles it.) Perhaps this was once a haven for the crew of the 6057 Sea Serpent.
That’s so funny, because yesterday I received a bulk lot of random bricks I’d ordered on eBay... and they happened to contain a near complete Black Monarch’s Castle. I was pretty stoked. 😄 But I agree, it does look like it could be some castle ruins. Interesting to think about!
I really love your Lego restrospective reviews! I had a couple of the small Pirate sets (Castaways Raft & Buried Treasure) on their first release late 80s early 90s, then when I first got a job after school I bought some of the big Lego sets including Barracuda and Enchanted Island! Now my 5yo son absolutely loves pirates and Lego so we’ve been putting together a bigger collection off eBay & bricklink, like Forbidden Island, Shipwreck Island and the Shanty! We’ve even managed a mish mash version of Eldorado Fortress, but are still working on getting some of those bits. I wish they’d bring out new pirate sets! I’m sure there’d be a big market for them! Keep making your great videos!
Thanks so much, Charlotte! I’m glad you’re enjoying the retrospectives! I, too, really REALLY hope Lego brings back Pirates at some point, maybe revisiting and updating some of the classic sets you mentioned - especially the Barracuda! Thanks for watching! 😎👍
LOVED the pirate theme in the early 90s when I was a kid. I just began to sort and build some of my old sets late at night for my 4yo son. So much nostalgia involved. I also managed to pick up this set for approx 50eur. He is gonna love it. And later on he will get the ideas barracuda as well. Happy days ahead!
Strong start to the second wave of Pirates sets! Loved the way it looked with the foliage, base plate, and stone walls. It probably looked great next to the Forbidden Island set from the first wave.
It DOES look great next to Forbidden Island... that’s how I have them set up on my shelf! The thing I really felt was missing from the 2009 & 2015 Pirate set waves were a really good island hideout... they just don’t build them like they used to!
Thank you! And I actually just got the ITP this weekend - as part of a random eBay lot I picked up for $50! I couldn’t believe it when I opened the package. It’s missing a few small parts, and the entire merchant ship, but I’ll definitely be doing a video review as soon as I can complete it!
LEGO just don't make Pirate sets of this quality these days. I so hope they green light the new Ideas PirateBay...Great review. Keep the Pirate ones coming!
I’m really pulling for that Ideas set, too... the fact that it only took a few weeks to get to 10k votes should give LEGO a hint that people want Pirates again! And thanks! Definitely more Pirate sets coming throughout the rest of the year!
Hopefully it was worth the wait! It’s definitely one of the coolest they’ve ever made, but if I had to pick just one favorite, I’d probably go with the Skull’s Eye. But this one is in my top 5! Thanks again for watching! 😎👍
I miss the raised plates, too... so indicative of 90s Lego! And the monkey was always something I wanted as a kid, but never had. Now, thanks to all these reviews, I’ve got a whole army of them, lol! 😄
Same here; when I first decided to start collecting Pirates, Enchanted Island was at the top of my list to get, because I remember so vividly how bad I wanted it as a kid. Classic set!
This set is amazing. Nigh unobtainable for me at this point, but maybe one day I can slowly work towards collecting parts for it. I’ve been trying to restore my Amazon Ancient Ruins and it’s been quite the chore finding parts. It really helps to ATTEMPT the full build before buying lost parts.
Arrrgh - it be a grrrreeat set me hearty! :-D I just love the natural look of the fortress - it reminds me a lot of something out of the old Pirate movies I watched as a kid! There's so many great details and techniques in this one and I can fully understand why some find this the best pirate fortress out there! I like you foliage modification at the end - great job! Thanks for sharing this and keep up the good work :-)
Wouldn't it make more sense to have the prison cell built the other way around so that the door is accessible from within the base itself and the barred window is facing the ocean? (I know it's not in the original build but I am wondering if TrikBrix modified it later on.) Great video as always, keep it up!
I’m SO stoked to pick up The Pirate Bay! Hopefully the official set isn’t too far removed from the original design, because it looks pretty awesome as is. Can’t wait! ☠️
Yeah! More pirate set reviews! Keep it up! So i can get the following sets for 60 euros ( 67,80 dollars ) Imperial flagship ( the old one, missing front sail ) Eldorado Fortress ( 1 stud missing on the 3d baseplate, colored by age ) Forbidden Island ( complete, pristine condition ) Sabre Island ( missing the wall with window pieces ) I want to complete every set, but dont want to spend too much money. You think this is a good deal? Thanks in advance!
Hope your still out there somewhere because LEGO has announced the Set 21322 Pirates of Barracuda Bay from LEGO Ideas. You might me very excited with this one as it has some features that you may remember in your childhood.
The ITP is definitely a set to be reckoned with, but I don’t really consider it a ‘Pirate’ fort, but rather an Imperial fort. If you’re looking at the best fort/land set of the theme as a whole, I’d probably have to go with the Trading Post, too. Thanks for watching! 😎👍
Awesome review of another awesome set. Not that anything else is expected from you at this point. You always make my weekend :D I'm working at the moment on some classic set mocs, where I try to create builds that fit in with the classic themes with offering some new ideas and playfeatures (kinda like a "what if there was another wave of sets"-series). I just finished my first of these builds the "Coyote Canyon" and I bet you can guess for which theme it is. If you want to see it, I'd be more than interested in what you think about it and should you ever run out of classic lego sets to review maybe you'll need a few classic mocs to review ;-)
Thanks! And that sounds awesome - it may be a few years before I run out of sets, but I’d definitely be interested in reviewing some classic-styled MOCs at some point!
@@TrikBrix Yeah, esspecially since if you review the castle series with all its subthemes, you have like 10 million sets to review :D Anyway I can send you a picture on Twitter, it is the first moc I'm truly completly happy with :-)
@@TrikBrix Haha, that surely is an option :D I sent them to you on Twitter, hope you like it. It has some playfeatures (secret cave storage, thumbling rock, swinging bridge) and 638 pieces. I love your channel! Your reviews are a million times better than any popular LEGO TH-camr right now (except for Jang, maybe) but lot better than someone such as Just2good. Your channel is great, and I wish you were more well-know in the LEGO community, because you deserve it for sure. Would you mind checking out my channel too and giving your thoughs on my videos?
Thank you! And, yeah, Jang is pretty much the best out there... that’s why I chose to do mainly old sets, because he does such a good job with current releases I didn’t feel like I could add anything to sets he’s already reviewed. And I’ll definitely check your channel out when I get a chance! Thanks again for watching! 😎👍
@The Borderline Thanks! One of my favorite things to do when planning a new retrospective is coming up with the intro and writing theme music. I think that makes it just a little more special.
Yes I agree his production quality and narrative style are right up there with the master Jang. Definitely deserves more credit. Hopefully your channel will grow in time...
Love your reviews mate. I'm planning on getting an old set from 2009: shipwreck hideout. I found a unboxed version of it WITH box and instructions for 56,95 euro which I believe is a great price. Though I might get a more recent sealed pirates set from 2015 since those are cheaper.
would have loved playing with this as a kid, every kid's obstacle - money and space lol
Had the space, not the money. Now, I have none as an adult.

Your video's on classic lego are by far the best I've seen on TH-cam, smooth camerawork, no quirky background and you have a good audio voice!
