    LYRICS:
    He sits in the dark
    Looking into the glass
with his hand in the jar
    It's a sticky white mess.
He applies it and he wonders "How'd I ever get here?"
Piercing his reflection, as he pulls off an ear.
'neath a sign reading 'EXIT' by the backstage door
his fans are collected for a glimpse at the star.
He emerges and they wonder "Oh how can it be,
this angel is the monster we have all come to see?"
    In the labyrinth,
    In that lab your in,
In the watery depths of hellboy
You are so renowned in the underground
Even dead in a tale where the witches dwell
Eating all you know as a Wendigo
on a board soaring out to space,
selling ice cream when, we are at the end, in a war between heaven and hell.
"This is your fate, Mr. Jones, my dear!"
said the Devil to dear Mr. Jones
"You'll be loved by the millions and great at your task
but no one will see who is under the mask!
Cover your face, Mr. Jones, my dear
It gets hot as hell under the foam
and, like me, you will be in a crowd yet all alone"
Lo sabe Guillermo Del Toro el gran director.
Tambien ubo Ortega, que lo vio en este senor.
    Story, saw it glimmer
and Fessenden's known it for years.
    It shines from within him
through the growls and the moans and the tears.
    In the labyrinth,
    In that lab your in.
In the watery depths of hellboy
You are so renowned in the underground.
Even dead in a tale where the witches dwell.
Eating all you know as a Wendigo.
On a board soaring out to space.
Selling ice cream when, we are at the end, in a war between heaven and hell.
"Show us your face Mr. Jones, my dear"
said the Angel to dear Mr. Jones.
"It's a crime to the heavens for even a while
to hide for a moment that beautiful smile!
Show us your face, Mr. Jones my dear"
said the angel to dear Mr. Jones.
"You are loved and you know,
    you will never be alone"

I love the perfect timing for the Hellboy reference to be able to be played off as "In the watery depths of Hell, boy you are so renowned" but people familiar with Doug Jones know it's "The watery depths of Hellboy". Its so well written right there

    "In the labyrinth"
"in the watery depths of hellboy"
"on a board soaring out into space"
Doug jones played a satyr in pan's labyrinth, and an aquatic humanoid in the film _Hellboy._ He also starred as The Silver Surfer alongside the fantastic four.
    Well written, Voltaire.

    In the labyrinth, (Pan's Labyrinth)
In that lab your in, (Possibly more Hellboy reference, but also could have been a few other roles where he plays someone in a lab)
In the watery depths of Hell, boy (Hellboy)
You are so renowned in the underground
Even dead in a tale where the witches dwell (Hocus Pocus)
Eating all you know as a Wendigo (Fear Itself)
on a board soaring out to space, (Fantastic Four)
selling ice cream when, we are at the end, in a war between heaven and hell. (Legion)
These lyrics give me life. Please comment if I missed one.

So, for the longest time I had no idea that this was a tribute to Doug Jones. Before I knew, I had my own interpretation of what this song was about. I imagined an actor, famous for playing monsters, who loves his craft but is tired of the fame and attention. So, the Devil offers to give him unparalleled talent, but he would never be able to remove his masks, meaning no one would be able to harass him. At first, it seemed like a good idea, until he eventually dies and realizes he can't enter Heaven because his face is covered by the mask.

Love it. The tune is great the melody, the tempos the sound in General is just soon...dark but upbeat and it almost had a Tim burton type feel to it with its creepy but light sound and it held a very nightmarish dreamy melody. It was beautiful. It's like a dark lullaby! My family was yelling at me blaming me for passing out on the couch. It was so relaxing. Thank you again Voltaire for providing us with this great piece of art

This sounds A LOT like a song that would belong in the 'To the Bottom of the Sea' Album. Is just has that swinging sort of tone that most of those songs.
That said, I still think that Voltaire has the most variety within all of his songs, which is partly the reason he's one of, if not the only, music artists I follow nowadays.

I love the take on the angels and the devil. The devil wants Mr Jones to be ashamed and to deceive others, the angels want him to love himself and show his true face to others. The angels (and presumably God, who sent them) really seem to represent love and goodness in this song, unlike in the minds of many intolerant people.

When I first heard song, I figured it was some sort of metaphor for self-loathing and wishing that you were something else then becoming that thing only to realize that the only way to be happy was to live in your own skin; only, at that point, would he be willing to trade what he'd gained through deceit for what he might gain from self-acceptance?

Lo sabe Guillermo Del Toro el gran director.
También ubo Ortega, que lo vio en este señor.
Guillermo Del Toro knows the great director.
Also ubo Ortega, who saw it in this man.

This is what google translate came up with for the Spanish part...”Guillermo Del Toro knows the great director. There was also Ortega, who saw him in this man.”....
    Whaaaaaat???

    • @TheLairofVoltaire
      @TheLairofVoltaire  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

It refers to two directors Doug Jones has worked with recognizing his special gift and talent. "It is known by Guillermo Del Toro the great director, and there was also Ortega who saw it (meaning his talent) in this gentleman (meaning Doug Jones)"
