When you see it in a cinema theater in 70mm it really makes the effects look more special. Film as a medium has a really soft color grade so that there are lots of gentle soft differences in colors and are not harsh. Even CGI special effects when on film look amazing and so much more realistic than they do in digital TV and projector formats. The special effects in Vertigo do not look that good on a tv but on 70mm film they have a very dream like quality to them and look surreal.
@@bighands69 Vertigo wasn't filmed in 70mm. It was filmed in Vista Vision, a regular sized screen, high definition process that was at some point transferred to 70mm. Why I will never know. Vista Vision was problematic because originally the reels ran through the projectors horizontally, so special equipment was needed. The only plus with Vista Vision is that it was a very clear image that could be projected on any sized screen. It didn't last, because 70 mm was just around the corner.
Well put together, excellent choise of movie cuts, great timing and gorgeous soundtrack. Together they tell a whole new story and give sentiment to the super panavision 70
When you visit panavision in woodland hills CA, this camera is prominently on display at the entrance. Really cool to think how much iconic footage it's captured.
But who the hell shoots 70mm film for texture? Isn't the whole point that it's higher fidelity? Maybe there was just enough of the texture in film stocks in the period the movies in this video were shot on but nowadays, the one stock that's available, vision3 is very clean, even on 35mm, it feels too perfect versus the past, to the point that if you were shooting film for the texture there's no point, it looks virtually identical to many digital cameras.
This is the end of innovation and development.Marvellous achievement. What else is needed and could be expected.Nothing more could be done further. This is bliss.

This scene at 1:57 is really powerful and give me goosebumps, and a nostalgia feels that i never experienced. it shows how T.E Lawrence is walking alone in the middle of the desert at midnight. And also the vibe is like we never experience for, I mean just LOOK at that... So powerful man. U got the Dunes, the bushes, some little sandstorms flying, and a footstep, and then there he is, Lawrence himself. Gotta say this it THE best movie ever, no one can make a movie like this anymore. Hands down to Krishna Kumar, great editing, transition, All the best!
Krishna, you have done an amazing job with this - the editing, effects, music, choices of movies and scenes - if I were to show someone how I feel about Super Panavision 70, I will show them this film.
This editing video is ABSOLUTELY Perfect! no any bad thing nor miss, you are an excellent editor Krishna, you should earn more viewers and subscribers for this :)
Nice video, for sure some of the great films shot on the standard 5 perf format. There weren't very many movies shot using the Super Panavision logo, but there were LOTS of movies shot and projected on 5 perf 70mm. It was a very common format in the late 50's through the early 90's before digital audio for 35mm came out. There has been a huge revival of 5 perf 70mm, but outside of Hateful Eight, which was shot on anamorphic 5 perf, none of the newer films are entirely shot on 5 perf, some are mix of 15 perf and 5 perf, some are a mix of 35mm and 5 perf/15 perf. Even more are digital mixed with 5 perf. So the format is still alive and well, just not using the name Super Panavision.
Either way 35MM became standard and it totally sucks compared to 70MM. We have a plethora of movies that are poor 35MM quality with studios paying big $$$ trying to pull a high quality upscale out of them now. It's quite sad really. Why studios didn't archive their movies in 70MM is beyond me.
What would we do without those little 'holes' down (or across) both sides of the film ??? Videotape has electronic holes and transistors have electron holes. 'Holes' are clearly very important!
Why just those 3 films? Granted, there among my all time favorites, but there are SO many more Super Panavision 70 titles. Like, the original "West Side Story," "Ice Station Zebra," "The Master," "Far And Away," and so many more.
@@southlyndale Yes. It was shot in Super Panavision 70... the vista's in Monument Valley...the special miniature effects. But, it's reception in the U.S. was such that most people only saw the 35mm reduction print. I manage to see a 70mm screening, and it was delightful.
when digital cameras reach this level one day.. then, only then I can say it is finally done. We crossed the line, where digital is as good as analog. And yet.. in 2022 and even with the newest digital ARRI cameras.. they still cant do it. Thats sad actually
Film can still be used while that digital gap is covered. Another approach for smaller budget movies is to shoot most of the scenes in digital, then transfer to film and to be very specific when shooting scenes on film.
Nonsense. This has nothing to do with film, but with highly skilled cinematographers. All these movies would have looked equally gorgeous and then some if they had been shot by the same cinematographers on an Arri Alexa 65 digital camera. You go and watch Blade Runner 2049 by the great Deakins and tell me that isn't a reference for aspiring cinematographers for decades to come. And that was shot on 35mm digital in a mere 2.8K resolution.
@@Stinktierchen Well, then do tell what is wrong with the comment. It seems so very obvious to you and yet you didn't bother to include that. That tells me a lot about who is the one actually clueless here.

This is fun, and you've got some sharp prints, but it's nothing like the stunning, immersive effect of the real thing, sorry.
