    Quentin Tarantino loves cinema. He doesn't just love story telling. He loves cinema and all its glamour. There are a few filmmakers out there who still act like him, but they are a few. The others just love to tell the story, but don't care a lot about the presentation. Before a film was an event,while only a few are, and the rest is just a way to entertain yourself and spend time with a few friends.

      Not sure he was talking about Tarantino's laugh, but the audience's and maybe Kimmel's. Obviously Tarantino wasn't censoring himself for the PC culture, as he said what he wanted to say. All that said, I'm not sure why black people being in a movie makes for a particularly good Christmas movie. Maybe something to do with how many tickets it sells, since it appeals to a larger audience. Or maybe he means there's representation from a greater number of ethnic groups. That's probably it. A movie with an Indian, Asian, African, European, etc. would do better than one with representation from only one group. Also I consider us all one group. But I know not everyone does.

  • @cobbsta88
    @cobbsta88 8 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    The roadshow really was something special. A couple things you guys should know about film in general.
    1:Movies are designed to be seen AT the cinema on a big screen. Even the editing is affected by this, as you experience the rhythm of a movie differently on different screen sizes. Walter Murch would always edit with a scale size doll next to his screen, so he would always have the perspective of a cinema audience in mind, and not someone watching in their living room.
    2: digital films are still gorgeous, but they can't quite mimic what film look like yet. Not from lack of effort, they're trying to get there and probably will eventually.
    3: film is only film, when its projected on film projectors, and digital projectors kind of defeat the purpose and take away the 'magic' Tarantino romanticises.
    This film was designed to be projected on a huge screen on film. Everything about this movie is a love letter to the golden age of cinema. You won't truly experience this movie on DVD.

    • @bighands69
      @bighands69 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is only 15 years ago that we would have been able to watch 35mm on film projectors at the cinema and it was amazing back then.
      Digital cinema has ruined the experience. Washed out pixelated films are simply not worth it even on large screens. My plasma at home will wipe the floor with them for picture quality which is really sad.
      A friend of mine got hold of a 35mm projector and has a theatre set up at his home and it looks beautiful but has a limited amount of material to show.

    • @bighands69
      @bighands69 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      35mm projectors had a resolution of about 8k and 70 or 65mm had a resolution of about 18k. There is a reason why people think that Imax 70mm looks amazing.

    For those who don't know there are two types of 70mm film formats, there is "Todd-AO (5-70)" which has a resolution of 8k & where The Hateful 8 was shot at, then there's "IMAX (15-70)" the ultimate movie experience which has a resolution of *18k!*

    • @bighands69
      @bighands69 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You are not even close to being true in your statement.
      70mm as in 5-70 is at a minimum 18k resolution, IMAX is in the twenty something range. Vistavision has a resolution equivalent of 12k.

    It was shown in Amsterdam the Netherlands, this evening and it was really an epic 70 mm, with mr Morricone's music combined, the only place in the whole Benelux where it is shown in 70 mm, they bought especially a new lens for it. Thank you mr Tarantino!

    I love how Quentin Tarantino is this nerd for filmmaking, like I am, and I always felt like I was going to be uncool for liking these certain things, but when I see Tarantino make these awesome movies with really quotable dialogue and really insane scenes, I now know, its cool to be into filmmaking, if you can be anything like Tarantino, I loved the use of 70mm in The Hateful Eight, like it said, it gave it this "old time Big Picture" feel, that is missing at the moment, I like to make a deal about going to the movies, I like to get there earlier, see the trailers, indulge in popcorn and drinks and feel the movie, with hopefully no interruptions from other cinema goers, and when its Tarantino, its a bigger deal for me, I'm upset now because I can't watch a Tarantino movie for the first time again, I rarely feel that way about any other filmmaker, that's what is so special about Tarantino for me

    • @Rilumai

      +Dorian Osiris Yes, it was a very good use of 70mm film. Not only were the landscapes shots extremely beautiful, but so were the indoors shots. There was so much detail in every single shot. The close ups were incredible and you could also see other characters in the background due to the very wide aspect ratio which allowed the viewer to keep an eye on multiple characters at once. 70mm was an absolute perfect choice for this film. There are only positives to him using it.

      I take it you're not American? Movies come out every week and they run every day. Movie theaters thrive off of holiday business (summer break/memorial day, Thanksgiving, winter, valentine's day) so they won't close. And movie companies wouldn't want to lose money because of closed theaters.
