    I love the idea of a goodbye bash. My aunt had one! She had kidney failure and was in dialysis for a long time. Her health was declining and she said she just could feel that she wasn’t going to last much longer. She said she didn’t want people to cry too much when she died, she wanted us to be happy and celebrate her life! So, she planned a going away party :’) She invited all of the people she wanted to see, had a beautiful party, and it was an amazing thing for everyone. She got to leave on her terms and say her final goodbyes to everyone while she was still able to, and we got to have an amazing memory of her to help us have closure once she was gone. I’m absolutely going to do the same if the universe allows it.

      That sounds so beautiful. I have a terrible fear of death, I get really bad panic attacks when I think too much about it but I feel that maybe in the future doing something like a going away party might help me feel better :)

      I commend your aunt, and the idea makes me smile. She took something scary and out of her control and just put her terms on it. I think that’s something we can all learn from her. Even the scary and uncertain things can be less scary if your able to put your own control in it. I love the idea of a going away party. We celebrate birth, so why not positively celebrate the life of a loved one before they die? Everyone gets closure, the death is associated with happy moments and memories, and everyone who may not otherwise get to say goodbye (ie living out of the area, going to college, going to be deployed overseas, etc). And I’m sure everyone would like to say goodbye before the person in question passes away.

      I think they maybe want to be an escape for people, something that just makes you smile for an hour. They touch on important issues and make their views clear but I think they just want to make sure people know what they’re getting when they click. People know a TryPod episode will make them feel joy, maybe the only joy they feel all day in these times. I do really love when they talk about serious topics, I wish they had another podcast or something just for that. When Zach announced his podcast I was hoping it would be one where he got to talk about politics/society/etc because he seems to be really intelligent and passionate about those things.

    • @natasha7760

      although it's important to note that royal fanaticism and racism is very much rooted in British culture and, even for left wing politicians, criticism of the royal family (particularly the queen) is immediately shut down. So called British civility is a veneer hiding a lot of darkness and we just don't need a colonial figurehead to symbolise the extraordinary pain this nation has caused

      @@yveewong Honestly I think it's incredibly divided but I would say a majority of people are supportive of the monarchy in a very vague way as there is so little education on the atrocities Britain has committed. I personally had to get to university level History before a lot was even touched upon. I'd honestly say Diana is popular, it's easy to martyr and revere the dead, Charles/Camilla lightly unpopular (used to be very unpopular) and Meghan it's a largely generational divide. Most people in their teens, twenties, thirties even are at the very least somewhat sympathetic but the media is so increasingly right wing and monopolised people are just barraged with inherently racialised criticism of her. Sorry long ramble but honestly screw the monarchy, they have no real political power but their social power is damaging enough!

    Is it bad that I kept getting frustrated when the guys were talking about house work and how their spouses wanted things cleaner than they cared about? Invisible labor is a thing that many people (usually women) are forced or expected to do for their partners because of this "I can stand it to be dirty. If someone wants it clean they can clean it" attitude.

    • @FoxofGold
      @FoxofGold 3 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      My personal experience has made me think that this "whatever" attitude about shared labor in the house stems from the issue that when boys grow up it's not often a cultural norm to expect them to pitch in with chores and housework and cooking. They end up without the skills, relying on a partner to teach them or care for them etc.
