  • I am so excited to share this incredibly unique build with you. I can tell that Phil has put a TON of time and effort into this project and from what I have seen, it seems like the $35,000 asking price is more than reasonable. Click the link below to contact and/or follow through Instagram!

    Absolutely love this. The price is fair. I'm gonna be jealous of the lucky buyer who gets this gem.

      I mean it could have 200k miles on it. That would be a ridiculous price in that case

      Those 3.4s with even just a little bit of love can go 300,000-500,000 miles from experience and a swap for a replacement engine was about $3,500. With this the main money is the whole configuration and it’s pretty reasonable, especially when that restored 1978 chinook sold for $53,000 recently. I think it’s fair to ask $20,000 less for this one.

    This camper shell was originally designed for a Toyota pick up chassis and it was a one piece fiberglass molded piece. It had a small Porta potty in the rear area. It was called a Chinook Omega and was sold through RV dealers where the original pop top Toyota Chinook was sold through Toyota dealers. It was made in LaVerne, CA. We also made one under contract for Chevy, the Blazer Chalet which was a pop top version that fit onto the back of the Blazer and it looked a lot like this Tacoma unit. However, we made it a pop top and included a porta potty. The pop top design significantly improve the gas mileage when on the road and gave the user a lot more head room when the top was up.
    What goes around, comes around but sometimes the original is still better than a knock off....😀

    Love it. Been following him on Instagram for a while. I have a Chinook newport on the original 78 hilux. The frame is rotted and I hope to put the camper body on something else some day!

    Chinook was ahead of the game back in the day! It's a shame they went out of business. Someone will be lucky to travel around in this piece of work!

      Agreed, not very good attention to detail, uneven boards, unfinished cuts, exposed expanding foam, etc. just not worth that kind of money, maybe $12,000

    Overall love the idea - The exterior looks great.... Not sure about the suspension choices but looks like it'll do the job - The interior work isn't great, that usually looks great on screen but in person things jump out at you so when things jump out at you on screen that's not great. Obviously don't know the story, maybe he built it for himself but now needs $ - If he intended to sell from the jump it would be an easier sell if the interior wasn't built out but that's just my opinion....

    I love this idea. Not my favorite camper shell, and I am sure this guy's efforts are well worth whatever amount he is asking, but I am not so impressed with his format or attention to small details. A lot of ruff edges. Still, really cool!

    I'd like the exterior and the overall idea. I'm not a fan of a split mattress so those type beds don't really work for me. Overall though it's a nice build

    Looks cool. Few things id change. Id relocate the spare tire to the rear.. not underneath. Also.. id make a bed up top instead of it being all open. Other then that.. its a cool rig.

    That thing is pretty cool..... its worth every penny...... go try and buy a new setup like that. Some thing I'd deffinatly upgrade and or finish, like reinforcing the frame and crossmembers and finishing the trim in the cab.

  • @CharlesButler
    @CharlesButler 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The only thing that I don't like is the Velcro shades to be placed on the windows. I would've used magnets easier to use. Other than nice setup, ohh and I like that home made turn table using pipes.

  • @archangel5627
    @archangel5627 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I like how he showed us the same cabinet and pull out drawer twice when he said there’s lots of storage. Not to nitpick but I feel like the over head section of the camper that leads into the cab is wasted space. I will say that the interior is beautiful but theres no real storage for pantry items, clothing, camping gear, etc, there’s no outdoor shower, or any cooking facilities, and no place to put a composting toilet for those who would want something like that. Not knowing what type of engine or how many miles the vehicle has is the ultimate factor on price. $35,000 is way too much money for an after market built out camper truck. You can buy a nice vehicle and build it out yourself for the same price or for cheaper while being able to custom tailor the rig to you’re own personal specifications. It’s definitely nice looking but it’s no where near worth $35,000 in my opinion.

    Where’s the stove?

  • @Brad-vs1lk
    @Brad-vs1lk 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    It seems odd to have that front ledge around where a bed should be! First thing I would do is build a bed up front. I would also put in a stove for those rainy days! Also an awning would be nice! I agree with another viewer that the leaf springs look awful tired! My wife would need drapes on all the windows. Who wants Velcro other than really cold temps. Ya a heater would be needed as well! After all that then maybe it would be worth what he’s asking!

    Love the big open windows with Velcro lined covers. Beautiful wood too. I just wonder about the weight load and price is a wee bit high, but nice looking rig.

  • @sunroameroverland
    @sunroameroverland 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Well' I would have more negative (constructive) things to say than positive on this build at that price range. Then again on a DIY you can go thought 2 to 3 versions of a rig as you learn what works and what needs adjusting as you use (abuse) it. I would call this the first version. I do like your creativity on the floor storage right behind the seats.
