The BEST Toyota Tacoma Truck Camper EVER Built - Interior Tour from the Owner of Truckhouse

  • The Truckhouse is nothing short of amazing, and this video didn't do justice to how absolutely amazed I was, and still am, by this beautiful machine. In my humble opinion, it is the best Toyota Tacoma with an integrated camper ever built, because it is carbon fiber infused, and insanely light and strong for its size. But mainly - because it still drives like a Tacoma! I cannot wait to meetup with the Truckhouse crew and do some more videos showing this thing in action. What questions do you have? Comment below!

    Ok. Seriously I’m an older guy. Im from the “cool” or “rad” era. I think I’ve used the term “sick” in reference to something that’s “cool” can be counted on less that one hand. That is a freaking sick set up. I’m not a fan of motor homes and vehicles like that for the reasoning that your ether camping or moving WITH your primary vehicle. I’ve always had either tent camped, or in the last 20 yrs, primarily, trailer camped, because I like to be mobile with a base camp. But that thing could dang near change my mind.

    You had me.. until I saw in the comments something about a reference to $350k. No way, no how... Plenty of other 1 ton truck be campers that could be had SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper than this and you can still have a built, off-road capable truck that can drive out from under the bed camper and be 100% back to being a truck in a matter of minutes. I love the idea but I just don't know who in their right mind would dump $400K+ into a setup like this with a truck..

    • @jayd2655
      @jayd2655 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dood, that’s a turnkey camper, hence it’s very expensive. You could replicate it for probably around $150K - $200K by farming out the manufacturing to custom builders one component at a time. The truck would set you back $60K with suspension and gear upgrades. There are a few custom camper builders out there that could build the shell for around $35K - $60K. Add another $30K - $50K for interior, electronics/power Then you’ve got yourself the same setup for half the price or even less. You’d probably want a midsize truck as opposed to a full sized ones because the size would allow you more access when overlanding, especially on those BDRs.

      Every truck camper out there is absolute garbage. The interior is an American lazy boy nightmare. This thing is the epitome of high-end feel and touch. To each their own, but let's not confuse what's going on here with a piece of crap disposable truck camper

      Agreed.
      2003, for our ExpeditionVehicle, our first modification was the addition of a 140-gallon 'saddle-tank' to supplement the factory 50-gallon tank.
      A total of 190-gallons on the rig.
      .
      We fabricated our toy-hauler on a similar commercial chassis.
      It has an additional 120-gallon tank.
      In theory, our range is Anchorage-to-Acapulco.

    "... the vehicle can hold you back..."
    On skoolie and other home-built forums, we suggest builders acquire a likely candidate, toss in some car-camping gear, go have fun.
    .
    Allow the conversion to evolve organically.
    .
    We see builders attempting to duplicate a stand-still house inside a vehicle.
    That forces the adventure to fit the vehicle.
    .
    2003, we converted a 1996 Ford CF8000 commercial truck to our concept of an ExpeditionVehicle.
    This rig is the culmination of a half-century of camping in lesser rigs.
    .
    And, with nearly two decades full-time live-aboard, our rig is constantly evolving.
    Suggestion:
    * avoid believing 'this rig is my forever rig'.
    You grow and evolve, your vehicle needs change.

  • @Chris-ut6eq
    @Chris-ut6eq 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Very curious on the new dry weight of the vehicle. Assuming the truck is 4wd, that only leaves ~1100lbs plus whatever the weight of the removed truck bed. While that seems like a lot, it's not. And carbon fiber is not a magic anti-grav material. The interior looks very nice and not light as well. If they kept it's wet weight under GVWR that's awesome, but I'm initially skeptical. Also curious on center of gravity. With GVWR it also includes people 1-2min and upto 5max. At 150lbs per person it eats into GVWR very quickly. PS. I'd count as about 1.75 people alone ;-p

    I just don’t see a market for this. $350k just for base model? People who drive Tacoma’s, don’t spend up to a half million on a camper. That’s earth roamer territory.

    I want one of these! I am full time in a T@B 320 S Boondock, which I LOVE. But. I'm starting to wish I had an offroad capable truck camper with a pass thru. Does your friend have a website for his builds?

    For $350 I’d should be on a super duty F350 chassis

    Is this one of a kind? For sale? Blur print? Very nice. Tight lines

    Got to be a millionaire just to afford that. I saw the price. Not for the average tacoma owner.
