Let It Be was the last Beatles album to be released, but Abbey Road was actually the last to be recorded, so technically it's their last work, yeah?

Wasn't 'I, Me Mine' on Let it Be, the very last track they worked on in 1970? Anyway as a batch Abbey Rd was the last album they worked on, I suppose

@@keddw Yes, since the song was featured in the movie so they wanted a version on the album, but the band never did a satisfactory version during the sessions, so George, Paul, and Ringo recorded that one in early 1970.

Yes, and 25 years ago Paul, George and Ringo went into the studio to finish two John's songs - Free as a bird and Real love...These are the last Beatles songs that appeared on the charts.

A Day In The Life was one of the few compositions that was really John and Paul. John wrote the bulk of it, but Paul wrote the middle part that starts with "woke up, fell out if bed". Technically, it was actually two different songs that they blended into one. Brilliant song. Arguably their most brilliant song.

I love when there’s a legitimate John/Paul collaboration in Beatles songs. I’ve Got A Feeling is one of my favorites from Let It Be for the part where the two of them are singing their separate songs on top of one another.

I grew up in a "typical" dysfunctional family situation in the '60's and '70's, with a lot of dark things happening all the time, and I have to say that discovering the music of the Beatles was one of the bright spots that helped carry me through all of that. I'm 61 now, and still love their music--never grew tired of it. My sister feels the same way. Thanks for the video!

A Hard day's night movie changed my life when I was 12 years old. In my house there were all kinds of music, from father's folk music to brother's Metallica and Sepultura, but Beatles made me start a music journey to 60's and 70's. When I was young, so much younger than today I adored the early Beatles. During the years on the University I became a huge fan of their 1965-1970 phase, after an almost religious experience with Tomorrow never knows . My favourite albums now are Revolver and Abbey Road, it's a tie. I'm a huge Beatles fan, I can never get tired of their music.

The Beatles were actually my first love. They were the earliest music I remember as a really young kid in the mid 70s. As the 70s closed and the 80s began my attention was drawn to Punk and Metal and of course it got more extreme from there. During the 80s when I was heavily into Thrash and getting into Death Metal, The Beatles were the furthest thing from my mind. I think because I always associated them with my childhood I immaturely thought of them as basic, irrelevant, and old. That literally changed in the early 90s after I graduated from high school. There was a brief period back then when I was directionless and unemployed and I rediscovered The Beatles by going through a box of old stuff and finding my dad’s old cassette dubs from his albums, which we’d literally lost in a fire at the beginning of my senior year. All of a sudden, those tapes were precious. This is way before they started reissuing vinyl albums and being unemployed I didn’t have the cash to go out and buy the cds. When I started listening to those cassettes I was in love all over again. I can honestly say I’ve been a Beatles fan nearly my entire life even if there was a brief time in my teen years I really didn’t appreciate them as much.

For myself, My list of favorite Beatles albums would change from time to time. I've always kind of separated their music into 3 different eras.
The early and touring years 1962-65
    Experimental studio years 1966-68
Final back to the roots years 68-70
So, depending on my own mood depends on what my favorite.
But, as you mentioned the different albums, the more I wanted to jump into those albums right away. As always, great list and great subject.

After listening to PP's rankings, I'd disagree that every album had multiple great songs. If the band split up after their first 3 albums, they'd be talked about in the same breath as The Bay City Rollers. In other words a pop band. Thankfully they evolved from a pop band to a great band. Every album after that contained 80% great songs, but also a bit of filler.

Watching your rating got me thinking I own so many bands entire catalog alot of bands. So after watching this I bought the beatles studio albums 13 of them. And they are fantastic. How did they not ever make a subpar album or even a stinker song? Brilliant material. I never got into them cause I always thought its not my style. Its too poppy or whatever. But great music is great music. I wasn't sure after I got all 13 where to start so I just listened to them in order of their release. 5. Magical Mystery Tour (such a great album with many favorites of mine.)
    4. Revolver (literally a masterpiece from start to finish, not a bad song on here.)
    3. The White Album (one of my favorite, if not, my favorite double album of all time, it goes by fast for me because it’s such a classic.)
    2. Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (the very first album I have ever listened to, and has stuck with me ever since.)

Your appraisal of the Beatles' discography closely aligns with my own. The first several albums are fine examples of the peppy, early '60s rock and pop sound that they had distilled to near perfection by "Beatles For Sale," but it wasn't until "Rubber Soul" that the band hit their stride as mature, full-fledged musicians and craftsmen of fine art!

I can't rate these albums in any order, but I will say that the "mop top" Beatles are my favorite era. Talk about "good time music!" The early Beatles are very John dominate, as far as how many vocal tracks he sung leads on, and is my favorite era for him as a singer and front man. His vocals had the young man's angst and defiance to it. There is no question who was the leader of the band, at this point. This band is impossible to pigeonhole, because they changed so often and and invented so many different sounds that no one ever had heard before. Beatles music is just Beatles music. They were as incomparable as any entity that this earth has ever seen. Or ever will. The Fab Four came in like a comet and exploded into a starburst whose still burning embers continue to shine just as brightly as the years roll on and people, of all ages, continue to discover their music and fall under it's hypnotic and intoxicating spell...

12 - Please Please Me. Great debut album but, in my opinion, that's where it stops. I don't think there's a lot that makes this album really great, though I enjoy it.
11 - Beatles For Sale. It definitely has a bunch of filler but some songs are nostalgic, like Eight Days A Week and I'm A Loser. I like the album.
10 - With The Beatles. It's kinda uninteresting overall but there are some great gems like Till There Was You. It's also pretty nostalgic.
9 - Let It Be. Definitely a very raw sounding album, but I hate the tracklisting on this album, and I really feel like it should've ended on The Long And Winding Road. It does have some of my favorite songs like Let It Be, Across The Universe, and For You Blue, so it certainly isn't bad in my opinion.
8 - White Album. Just gonna get this out of the way, I really don't like the tracklisting here, and there is a lot of filler. That said, the non-filler songs are some of their best ever. This is probably their only album that doesn't have a specific feel which actually is interesting. I don't not like it because it's a double album however, I just feel that every side could've taken away one song.
7 - Help! Among the best of their pop albums, and you can hear a seed of songwriting that would sprout with Rubber Soul. Yesterday, in my opinion, is the song that put them on that path, and it's a beautiful song. I only have a problem with the tracklisting, like how Dizzy Miss Lizzy comes right after Yesterday.
6 - Magical Mystery Tour. I love this album a lot but it kinda feels like a wannabe Sgt. Peppers in some parts. It's not the the extent of King Crimson's In The Wake Of Poseidon trying to be In The Court Of The Crimson King, but it certainly gives off the vibe. What's cool about this album is they kinda revisited their early pop sound with their newfound musicality (look at Hello, Goodbye).
5 - A Hard Day's Night. For me it ranks high because personally it just has a lot of nostalgia. But what's great is that this is probably their best pop album, musically. They had a plethora of dramatic sounding bridges and some dark sounding songs. They definitely grew with this album.
4 - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Great album, though I do think there is a lot of filler. Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields should've been on it.
3 - Abbey Road. Absolute classic! The medley on side 2 goes through so many different moods, from a gloomy to a jammy to an immensely powerful ending. I do think songs like Maxwell's Silver Hammer and Octopus's Garden kinda kill the seriousness of the album (but I'll just stop there because I don't wanna get killed).
2 - Revolver. Definitely their transitional album. Songs like Eleanor Rigby, I'm Only Sleeping, She Said She Said, and Tomorrow Never Knows are probably the pioneers of the sound to Sgt. Peppers.
1 - Rubber Soul. I had a hard time choosing between this and Revolver, but I love the songwriting here more. This album is just packed with masterpieces, and it serves as a change of pace for their direction.

Damn....this is incredibly difficult for me. Like everyone who was alive when the Beatles were conquering the globe, I can't be....I don't _wanna_ be....objective about them. I realize that as time goes on it's become acceptable and even hip to casually dismiss them - and that both depresses me, and boggles my mind. Suffice it to say that everything music fans love about rock music emerged from the wellspring of Beatles records. There are a few truths about them that have become muddied over the years; one is that each new Beatles album seemed to be, and was, a quantum leap forward from the last like no one before or since - another is how each new Beatles record _instantly_ became a road-map for the whole (musical) world to memorize and follow. Without in any way meaning to disparage or minimize the greatness of the Stones, Who, Kinks, Animals, et al - if you had to distill the entire rock era down to one band, it's not even a choice - it can only be the Beatles.
Having said all that, I'm as lost navigating the clusterfuck that is their discography as anyone else. I did the best I could here:

@@111usul In my opinion, I find Sgt Pepper to be a little bit overrated. I can understand the significant impact it had on music history, but I found Abbey Road to be a much better album since there were much more passion and effort put into it. Plus, it has "Something" and "I Want You (She's So Heavy)", the former actually being my favourite song by the band as a whole. I guess it because there was much more passion put into Abbey Road, plus there was a raw organic feel to it that made me relate to this album more than I did to Sgt Pepper.
The case for why everybody appears to love Sgt Pepper is because of its significant impact on Pop, Rock, etc, but I always felt that The White Album accomplished what Sgt Pepper attempted when it comes to pushing the boundaries of what The Beatles could do, thus making Sgt Pepper look safer in comparison (Not to say that it's a bad album of course, as I do enjoy listening to it sometimes). Plus, I can find myself relating more to the rawness and irony of songs like Helter Skelter, Dear Prudence, and Glass Onion than I do to the polished psychedelia of Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds. And with regards to Revolver, I think Tomorrow Never Knows will always be a better song than A Day in The Life.
I know I will get a lot of hate in the comment section for this, but for me, Sgt Pepper is only one of the many remarkable achievements The Beatles made.

"With" is massively underrated. Punk Beatles.

s1hemp you can’t compare them. The white album is just one of their masterpieces and from a different era.

Pete, I went back and watched this again today. Over a year ago. Really great. Loved your advice. You're a good person. Thanks.
Thanks for a great channel and great content!

The last 6 albums they made in any order are the best.

I'm glad you talked about this vid in your livestream, because I did not get a notification for this one. I've gotten notifications for everything else, as far as I can tell. Weird - especially considering that The Beatles are my NUMBER ONE favorite band OAT.

Revolver is, imo, the greatest album ever made.

Great stuff Pete and a great reminder to remain positive and consider others. We’ll all get through this thing together and come out stronger, more appreciate, more rested (hopefully) and more compassionate. Keep pumping out the great content and positive vibes man

    My Rankings:
    1: Revolver
    2: Abbey Road
    3: Rubber Soul
    4: Sgt. Pepper
    5: Help
    6: Magical Mystery Tour
    7: Hard Day's Night
8: White Album- Note Disc 1 ranks much higher than Disc 2
    9: Please Please Me
    10: With the Beatles
11: Let it Be: Phil Specter cut, naked would be higher
    12: Beatles for Sale
Also Yellow Submarine would be like right around the White Album

David G. Although I don't agree with all of your rankings, I was glad to see you put the White Album lower than most would. Most overrated album of all time.

@@s1hemp tbh the top five in any order depending on the mood. In all honesty white album would be lower were it not for a couple songs that pull it from the depths.
