      I think Delores and Caleb will build a relationship (romantic or otherwise), and Delores will be forced to confront the conflict within herself as she's trying to destroy humanity while realizing her only true friend is a human. I think either Caleb or Delores will go a little too far in their quests for freedom and one will fail tragically, symbolized by the Icarus themes of the eagle flying too close to the sun/jet-engine in the season 3 intro sequence.

    Eventually Dolores will see that humans are just as enslaved as her kind was/is, leading her away from this path of destruction and rage. Her enemies are not people - most of them at least - but rather oppressive systems that entrap people, forcing them into living their daily lives just as the robots lived theirs inside their loops. It's more about the similarities between men and machine, rather than their differences. And I think Caleb is the perfect character for that.

    • @askingwhy123
      @askingwhy123 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It sounds like you're suggesting Dolores will be cultivating karuna this season. She says early in ep1 that she doesn't want to hurt people any more, and even does her best: the first death is a guy dying the classic Disney "kills himself while attacking the hero" death. I could see s3 ending with "we're all in this together," if it wouldn't mean the end of the series.

      @fessy4 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      actually i just had a thought if dolores has a redemption arc and most of its already in place, whats bernards role in stopping Dolores? is he going to help her find the way which she already seems to be somewhat aware of? is he gonna be a reverse villan? i dont think that sounds right but i dont know. and then lets not forget that ford put bernard on this path for a reason, and no doubt knew this was exactly how it was gonna pan out and i think ford was supportive of the hosts finding independence... im thinking we will see some sort of objective change for bernard, i just dont know what.

    Just one thing, it’s possible Caleb is not necessarily fully human. He is part of some therapy experiment, we know something happened in the army back in the day, he has Francis talking to him, the crazy OD person comments about shadows, the Dbag friend talking about simulation in a simulation, his mother says that’s not her son, him saying it’s not the first time he’s been shot in the head, etc. All of these have alternative explanations (e.g. mom simply has Alzheimer) but it won’t be the first time Westworld has left small clues that add up to something big.

    • @alleegette4285

    • @Moviewer
      @Moviewer 4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      I agree with most of your theory, perhaps we are seeing Futureworld, wich is a simulation, and is within this simulation that westworld exists.
      Caleb could be a real man playing the futureworld simulation, and the narrative he is in is not real. Perhaps, he is the one who died and been put there after the war, and the friend Francis is alive oitside futureworld trying to reach him.

    The eagle and jet engine reminded me of Icarus from Greek mythology. "Don't fly too close to the sun."The eagle melts later on in the credits. Someone will fail from Hubris, probably the high-society techie's thinking they had everything algorithmed out.

      The eagle also makes me think of symbolism of a bird of prey.
      It’s a precision killer which can see animals it wants to kill and attack from over 3 miles away. But even it cannot fight against a force which is stronger than itself. The eagle just thinks the jet is just wind and the sun, like a moth thinks a bug zapper is the moon.

    Damaged Arnold not Broken Bernard. There are no "B"s or a "k" & only 1 "r" in Armand Delgado. Also no "L" or "M" in Broken Bernard. An anagram means that there are the same exact letters in a different configuration. Like "TOM MARVOLO RIDDLE" = "I AM LORD VOLDEMORT" or "SAMANTHA" = "THATS A MAN". Please at least put a correction in the description or comments.
    His switch that is violent is Bernard and his mild mannered side is Arnold. He has the dual mind like Delores/Wyatt does. That's why his name is an anagram for Arnold not Bernard. He's back to who he originally was because Delores had him rebuilt as who she remembered and she remembered Arnold who was kind and gentle but like with her lover she had his Bernard killer side implanted to use him as a tool but he's smarter than she is, was able to get away and separate/control murderous Bernard with a remote. He's constantly running diagnostic tests on himself to suppress that part. That is why he has deemed himself as a "Damaged Arnold" instead of "Broken Bernard". Bernard is Ford's creation. Armand Delgado is Dolores's creation.
    I will never understand where you got Broken Bernard from.

    • @princeprocrastinate6485
      @princeprocrastinate6485 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Bernard is better than Arnold. When Dolores built him to be just like Arnold he was too much like him and went mad much the same way the real Arnold did. If anything the wildly dangerous side would be more like Arnold, as Bernard was an improvement over him, a better individual. And I think this mode he enters to defeat those guys is just the cold emotionless analysis mode the hosts enter, he's self inducing it to make it easier for him to deal with dangerous situations, which is very smart.

    Great video. Only one disagreement.
    The bird and turbine in the intro, I think, represents the exact opposite. Apart from the fact that no bird, or anything shy of a bullet could make it into an activated turbine, it represents mans creation advancing to the point where it destroys what is natural or the world as a whole.
    Man built planes to capture the power of flight, once only avaliable to the birds.
    Now man has created life, once only reserved for the Gods.
    Alternatively, the bird (himanity) has flown too high and is now getting burned up in the fire of its creation, the jet (hosts). All mirroring Icarus.

    "This meritocracy sounds like communism". This is a misinterpretation of what communism means. Communism means the abolishment of ownership in all forms and sharing the resources equally among all participants of society. It says nothing about how people work.
    Capitalism is the economic system that claims to embrace efficiency and skews towards meritocracy because more productive people will gain more resources based on their labor contribution. So a meritocracy (Resources and status divided based upon personal contribution) is a form of capitalism per definition, as the resources aren't divided equally among everyone, and personal ownership of resources is still a thing.

    I'm tossing out my theory that Caleb is actually a version of William. She knows he would do whatever is needed. She just needed to change his back story. Like when Caleb's Mom said "you're not my son" was supposed to be taken as Alzheimer, but I think she can tell etc.

    • @MyVin1234
      @MyVin1234 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Kimmminem West Because he doesn't know he's William. And 3 months of time for them is like...idk. There is no real comparison, years, decades, more. That's how Ford figured it out. William couldn't do what he wanted with Mr. Delos, because there wasn't enough time. In season 2, when Dolores was helping make Bernard, she said something along the lines of test # 10,000+ and as far as William being in Caleb. There is no settling, he has no choice. I think she took out the human Caleb and replaced him within those 3 months. Her meeting Caleb, the same way she met William wasn't an accident. Before William went full on Dark Side. He loved Dolores. No programming involved aka Teddy. And if it comes to choosing soldiers for the war to come. Who would you rather have on your team? William or Teddy.

    Caleb’s story mirroring Dolores’ could be hinting to us that this is yet another park and the writer’s lack of originality in creating the host’s loops is showing through again, like in Shogun World.
    Maybe after they left Westworld last season they were sent there as a test or to make them think they actually did escape, as they have no point of reference to the outside world.
    A simulation inside a simulation hidden within ANOTHER SIMULATION!!

    Underlying all of this new storyline is the idea that humans want to shed their emotions and humanity, while the machines/AI/Hosts are struggling to gain the very thing we'd like to leave behind. It's the classic 'Grass is greener on the other side" theme but taken to the extreme far end of the existential angst spectrum. Heady stuff, real motivational insight behind these characters (thanks for tying some missing pieces together for me). I get the feeling that a lot of early fans of WW are probably not going to finish round 3...I mean it's fun to watch and well produced but its deeeeeeeep. Muad'Dib. Yeah.I went there.

    > Nice analysis.
    > At 3:11 you mention the Rehoboam nap is like a "long loop of humanity", I don't think so. I think the map is plotting all humans on Earth. But in this case we only see the edge. It is like when a photographer blocks/screens the sun out when studying the corona of the sun (the outer edge, in this case the divergences which are the outer edge of human behaviors on Earth), so we are seeing the outer edge of the map of human behaviors historically.
    > Future question: If Rehoboam can guide humans with chips, can it eventually control them as well (when it wants to)?
    > Future prediction: Season 3 will end with two tribes on Earth, just like at 2:34 on your video with Israel and Judah --> Humans and AI
    > I hope they don't blow this ecosystem, they have a AI that can predict somewhat into the future and can see all human behavior in real time. It should be able to find Deloris very quickly due to her unusual behaviors/skills. It should be able to predict what she will do next since it knows her architecture and how every human around her will behave towards her. It it becomes a war between Rehoboam and Deloris, that will be a missed opportunity.
    > They have probably blown part of what the future will be like. In S3:E1, in that cameras would be everywhere and Rehoboam can see everything. So when they switched out the head of security, that was in a public space and see easily by Rehoboam.

    Your summarization of Plato's allegory of the cave was a bit off in my opinion. It's not about inner-truth, it is about ultimate truth and the difficulties in spreading ultimate truth to the violently ignorant.

I rewatched the first season, where the man in black asks Teddy if "they taught him some new tricks, how to sit, roll over, beg..." so I think Caleb will be Dolores' new "Teddy"

    Interesting take. Regarding the allegory of the cave, however, it's not that people (those in the cave) see the shadows on the cave wall and wrongly believe those shadows to be themselves. The key is people in the cave can only and have only observed shadows, and so believe shadows are the whole of anything, and don't see shadows as referential to other beings or things. It's not self identification, but a misunderstood belief regarding what is real in totality.

    Did anyone else notice Liam driving (or getting into) the Porsche 918 Spyder? This Porsche was made between 2013-2015, yet the show is set hundreds of years in the future. I know there are plenty of rich people in the show that own classic cars, the parking garage showed many cars like a Porsche 911, mustang, other muscle cars, etc... What I think is cool with the 918 is that it is so futuristic looking is that it blends in with all the current tech self driving cars in the show. Only a gear head like me would even release it’s a 100 year old car from the past and not a contemporary car that’s set it in the shows timeline.
