It’s kind of scary how utterly hopeless and defenceless the seal is. No matter where it goes it’s always vulnerable to attack from orcas even when it’s seemingly “safe” on the ice
I saw some videos where the seal escapes. So I don’t think it’s a 100% kill rate. Everybody’s got to eat for sure so penguins are even more vulnerable.
Glad to see a more unbiased look at these magnificent creatures from a major nature documentary series. They truly are one of the most beautiful species on our planet.
Scientists believe they do! Its been noted orcas have distinct languages and cultures in each pod as well. Hunting techniques are a cultural thing with them, and only one group (originating from a single pod) in the entire world hunts like these do. They also have special ways of communicating among their pods that differs from how they communicate to non pod members. Insanely intelligent creatured
"Ok you three swim in synchrony under the ice, then Jake will catch him when he gets in the water." "Why is it always Jake who gets the first bite while we do the heavy lifting?"
you can tell how intelligent they are just from the look into their eyes, they observe and planning + communicate with pod members giving orders, humans are lucky that they dont seek revenge for their stolen babies hold prison in sea world and other prisons
Orca: so I scout the area, spot the prey, then coordinate with my team through vocal signals to create waves breaking the ice, push the ice to clearer water and finally barge the prey off and disorientate it by blowing bubbles to prevent it from fighting back. Then go in for the kill. Shark: I try to bite it........with my mouth....
I watched that documentary on a plane flight. It made me very sad how life is so harsh for that innocent seal. I teared up. This made me search for the video until I found it.
The seal has that "sh!+ I'm gonna die" look as they are pushing it out into open water. Orcas are amazing creatures. I did my 6th grade science project on them, everyone thought I bought the clay sculpture I made... The teacher even called my mother to confirm I did make it. It all started with me molding the clay around a mini foot ball. My paint job was damn good too. I was so proud of myself.
@@jasonkelly7951 lol the language barrier can definitely make things difficult for trying to understand things we Americans say. Lol. Especially cause none of us talk the same. So many different accents and the way we structure our sentences is crazy. Also the American "English" doesn't make sense at all even to us to be completely honest. I don't even know why we call it English, it may sound similar but it is definitely not the same. Also the united states' is huge compared to any single country in Europe. And Europe has so many different languages which blows my mind. I mean I live in Baltimore Maryland and people say we talk weird. And geographically we are in the middle of the east coast so it's kind of a mix between southern and northern accents and honestly I can say we do speak pretty weird considering.

I disagree, I think their eyes are beautiful and they’ve got to eat something to survive and at least its not humans
