Chuck is the heavier plus some of the songs aren’t that good. Only about 3/4 of the songs in chuck are good while the rest are dog shit. It does not sound nearly as good as all killer no filler and does this look infected.
Sum 41 was so underrated back then and even now. Imo will always be better than Green Day and Blink 182. The Offsprings are also better than those I think, my personal opinion though.
@@jonteguy Maybe better than Blink. But Green Day was game changing, man. Sum wont exist without Green Day. Well not in mainstream at least. none of Pop Punk bands would.
@@jonteguy I agree. I've never caught Blink live, but I've seen Green Day twice maybe 14 years ago now, but I saw Sum 41 open for Offspring as my last live concert before covid shutdowns and Sum 41 blew my face off live in comparison.
Also to note this album was written after going to the Congo to film a documentary of war going on at the time and getting caught in the middle of gunfire and having to hide in a hotel and naming the album Chuck after the army guy who got them out alive.
Damn, you’re only 1 of 2 reactions of All to Blame on TH-cam that I can find! My first time on your channel, I’ll be looking into more for sure. Great job!
I love this album, my favorite song is No Reason and Pieces. Also it's my very first CD in my whole life. And i'm proud of being a Sum 41 fan since i was a kid
I remember seeing these guys when they weren’t big yet. They were a good show, but wasn’t really into them. They were heavily promoted by the guy in treble charger and were just a bunch of goofs similar to blink 182 kinda. I remember being really impressed by all to blame and was really into this track any time I heard it. The guitar player is really, really good. They write a damn good song. Nice choice.
Another interesting thing Manny brought up, which I was thinking about recently was, "albums where every song is good". It would be interesting hearing what are peoples top 5 go to albums. For me being in my 50's, I've come across many albums where every song was good in many different genres. Check out the Album by Erasure "The Innocents", it was big during the 80's. I know you two are not into the synth/keyboard sound but you can't deny the melodies they generated during that era.
Man I remember they came to my hometown( Salem Oregon) when I was in 6th grade with good charlotte, lola ray and hazen street. 😂But the day of the concert they couldn’t play cause the lead singer got mono. But it was still a great concert, my first.
Good video, was curious to see what a first reaction to Sum 41 would be like! Quick word of advice, it felt like you guys weren't fully ready to record yet, the guy on the left is distracted by the microphone and the guy on the right is distracted by his phone which made me feel distracted too! Bu other than that great!
Thanks Akryon; the sound was glitching a bit during the song, so we had to fix it a bit on the fly. And I typically have the lyrics on my phone, but at 2:40 I accidentally opened another window, which threw me off a bit, lol. Sorry! -JP
I liked quite a few aspects like, vocals, melody and harmonies. I will also throw in creativity on the second song. My only problem with the songs is the level of musicianship. Now, I'm not saying they can't play but there was no wow factor in both songs that made me take notice. I noticed from previous reviews Manny tends to like songs that have interesting melodies, the more melodic musically and vocally the better. This is why I suggest looking at the band Sonata Aritica. They are heavy and are very melodic vocally, musically and are also fantastic musicians. You can't help but notice the level of musicianship they bring to the table. Manny I think you should check out their first album "Ecliptica" every song is good in my opinion. In regards Sum 41, I'm at 2.6 and 3.0.
I've been a Sum 41 fan my whole life, but I can't really argue with that. Sum 41 is kinda weird because every member of the band is far more talented than their music actually lets them be. Deryck can do some great vocals, Cone is an awesome bassist, and Dave is a monster on the guitar, but their music tends to lean on the simpler side, so outside some MOMENTS in their songs, their talent doesn't really shine through. The instrument that consistently shines is the drums from Steve (later replaced by Frank, who is almost as good), funny enough. Sum 41 would probably have a reputation for having some of the best drums in the pop-punk / alt-rock genre if Travis Barker didn't exist.
Kinda sounds like a progressive Green Day. Like it. As a Genesis nerd, may i suggest The Knife. Its from their first album, Trespass. Its their hardest metal song. Just as good as Firth of Fith, but with Deep Purple influence. Hard to believe its from 1970!
I'm a Genesis nerd, too. Check out my youtube channel, click playlist, and go to Top 10 Lists folder to find my videos ranking Genesis albums and songs. I want jpmp to react to The Musical Box.
when the crazy part came on since I'm a boy and my hair is long I started going crazy shaking my hair everywhere and just pretending I'm on the electric guitar LOL
Yesssss, Final Wars def one of my fave too. I found out about Sum 41 later on but then even later on after that I found out they were the ones that did All to Blame lol, it comes full circle.
It's like this, you got this running back named Chuck, right? You call a play (vocals, red right, Z fly) and Chuck gains 3 yards. You call another play (energy, 41 belly, Z out) and Chuck gets 3 more yards. So the ball's inside the opponent's 40 yard line and everything's set up for the big play. Metal, 42 trap, YZ cross. Chuck breaks through the line and after 8 yards no one's even laid a finger on Chuck. 15 yards down field and it looks like Chuck is going to take it all the way for a TD. Then... fumble. Chuck drops the ball. Not knocked or ripped from his hands, he just freakin drops the ball. Got the metal ball in hand and he drops it. Dang, Chuck. Go plant your butt on the bench, Chuck. If I could take the 6 yards you did gain off the stat sheet, I would just for spite. But I can't, so yards gained divided by two gives you a 3.0 score. Coach should make you carry the metal ball all over campus, 24/7 without ever letting it out of your hands. 👎🏈
I'm here, catching up, sort of binging all these videos, commenting on almost every single one (which I vowed, never to do on YT, again...*sigh*). Well, I read pretty much all the comments, but I'm always looking for yours, in particular...waiting for another one along the lines of this one.
Sum 41 was ripping off better bands, a lot. System of a Down is an obvious one. Pretty much stole the melodic parts from Chop Suey, right there. In The End from Linkin Park, not to mention the singing style, is in there, as well. In Too Deep is a cheap take on Blink -182. Then again, you have an interesting point...because soft choruses after heavy verses were unusual, I guess...but they were not a new thing, exactly. Hardcore bands were doing this for years. For instance, AFI already did this as far back as Black Sails on the Sunset, circa 1999...I'm sure? I'll have to check. Even nu metal did this, I think. Like Korn or Limp Bizkit, but not sure. Maybe Linkin Park, as well. Maybe that came later.

They actually started to get out of the pop punk genre, and started getting harder on "does this look infected " (album before Chuck)
They've always been hard punk.
They're contract they sign at first stipulated that music executives got to decide which tracks were played on radio.
yes, does this look infected is one of my fav albums of all time, they definetly started getting harder then.
you mean a 3.2 out of 3.2? we're all to blame is one of the most perfect songs imo
