What are your thoughts on the new C400?!
If they somehow were able to put a global shutter in this and the price be around $10k, it would be INSANE. But that's just me dreaming... Haha! It's still incredible value for the money though (from what we've seen so far). Looking forward to hearing everybody's opinions on it once it gets into more hands.
@@IsaacSuttleFilmslets be honest global shutter in cinema camera is not important , the stacked bsi sensor is very close... u r not going to shoot hummingbirds right? Even if u do, the stacked bsi sensor is more than enough hahahaha
Am I crazy for wanting to sell my 1 year old FX9 in order to get a Canon C400? The C400 does everything my FX9 does and more. All this while being smaller, lighter, and way less power hungry.

Tons of reasons to use a crop mode, if you are using crop lenses for one, but if you are using full frame and shooting 4k downscale, you can punch in and still record 4k with more reach , very useful.
You hit the spot about this camera at weddings, it might not be necessary for them, but I also think that even if you work at events/weddings aiming to be prepared to tackle more demanding jobs, as I am sure every wedding filmmaker has faced, its important. I do documentary work at weddings and on independent projects. This C400 could easily eat every documentary work you throw at it.
I wanted my next cam to be the Komodo X when Canon dropped this camera it has definitely left me scratching my head on which to pick! C400 would be a no brainer to match up with my R5C! The Komodo may have to come later 😢 bitter sweet I’m still weighing the options but the Internal ND and triple iso is hard to pass up.
Also keep in mind, the C400 has a higher power draw than the c70 (nearly double), the BPA60N gets about 2-2.5 hours on the C400.
Afaik Covid really impacted Canon's ability to release any new camera tech in a semi normal cycle for their cinema cameras. So it's very likely that all the rumors we heard back then for c200 mark II's, and C700s etc etc, had to be shelved because Canon probably couldn't actually get the cameras built with the supply chain issues. So I kinda feel the C400 is really another generation after whatever would have come earlier.

The new thing for cameras is going to be more ISO values, not more Ks, which is actually amazing. That's the BIGGEST gripe I have with the C70 - it just doesn't capture clean images that are dark, which primarily as a wedding filmmaker is tough once we're inside and can't get things bright enough even with lights - then the color suffers too.
100%! Excited to enter a camera landscape where maybe we see more triple base ISOs?? Super cool to think about all the applications for that!
The log formats are actually not the same. Just because the rec 709 works (kinda) doesnt mean they are the same curve. If you shoot the both log profiles side by side you will see the difference. Clog 2 is typically flatter and less saturated. So if you apply a clog 2 lut on clog3 it will typically work but your contrast and saturation will be slightly off.
I ordered one. Pumped. I love my C70's but I can let one go. I can let go my R5c too. I am way too invested in RF glass. I am a happy dog.
I think mini XLR is not an issue. It's a strong locked connection unlike any HDMI connection.

Double microphone framing and I feel like you got the black pro mist on One camera and not on the other.
It seems to be a solid piece of machinery. I’m just ecstatic that the C70 can now be found for as low as 3200 and 3500 on eBay. I’m a Sony shooter now, but I wouldn’t mind adding that dgo sensor to my collection.
21:40 whats nice about the Sony A1 is the dual ISO is 800/4000.
I wonder how useful or necessary the triple native ISO actually is. I mean, it’s extremely cool that Canon innovated in this area, but like you guys mentioned, FX3 users will just kick it up to 12,800 and use as much ND as needed. They just skip the ISOs in between ~3200 and 12,800 AFAIK. I’m not nearly experienced enough as a video shooter to judge what makes sense for whom, but I wonder if the triple native ISO is as useful in practice as it is amazing on paper.
I have the R5C and I’ve shoot along side a FX3 shooter on set and to my surprise the canon has held up in low light situations there was a point were we didn’t use our lights just the ambient lights and the interview came out great!
It’s more about choices. Sometimes people want the stops in-between.
First Take, will the C400 be Netflix approved?? Dun dun duuuuuunnnnnn!???
Considering the R5C has it, I'd be very surprised if this one doesn't.
