      EMMM. NO.
      They destroy cities centers.
      Thats why nobody find interesting 95% of American city downtowns outside of East Coast old cities that were preserved.
      Highways in the outskirts can be interesting, even ring roads that respect the city core.
      But american downtown highways🤮

      They're interesting for studying the history / growth of a city retrospectively, but the resulting racial disparities, neighborhood decline, and decrease in walkability, among others would make me shy away from them today, at least in north america

    You need dedicated left turn lanes, left turn only signals before the main green lights, and the ability for both sides to go at once.
    Essentially do this
    1, main road left turns, 5 sec min/8 sec max
    2, main road straits & right only, 10/20
    3, secondary road left turns, 5/8
    4, secondary road strait & right, 10/20
    Make sure every direction has at least 1 dedicated left turn.
    IMO, The highway exit should be 1 right, 2 strait, 1 or 2 left. Good luck! 🍀

    Great work dude ! You should place a historic building next to the river in the begging of the downtown. That way u'll give the highway a reason to curb like that, and also would look sick. Maybe just a building with enough importance or maybe the government couldn't move the people living there for some reason. Great content as always, been watching since the Springwood days, yeah its been ages but seems like yesterday. Have a great weekend. Abrazo desde Argentina

    As much as this was for earlier content, possibly have the monorail line 2 run counter clockwise as the tracks enable it and also it prevents holdups on the monorail loop, possibily if the monorail goes the other direction you could have an interesting flying junction (railway highway interchange basically) to send line 1 that way

    The lag issue sounds like it may be a broken node. You might want to run a mod to check for broken nodes just in case.

  • @joegeske
    @joegeske 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Just wanted to give you a heads up that the massive performance drop and choppy game play when moving those highways around is likely because of Adaptive Networks. I have been seeing the same exact issue on my end. If you remove the AN mod and move the nodes around it will run smoothly, but you obviously lose the AN functionality. I have also been able to temporarily fix the sluggishness by upgrading the networks to non AN networks. Kind of tough because I love the AN functionality, but I can tell you first hand that it only gets worse as your city grows. I had to just remove AN from my last 2 cities because of similar issues with other AN networks. Would love to see it get fixed. As always love your stuff, keep up the hard work!

    I think that weird laggy thing with move-it used to happen to me years ago when I moved things that already had Network Skins mods applied to them. You could delete the affected nodes and the glitch would resolve.

  • @sgarr17
    @sgarr17 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I really like the spaghetti-ness of the improved highway method, it's really interesting to look at, and breaks the formula quite nicely. However, a couple suggestions for improvements to the highway intersections:
    At 15:05 I noticed you spaced out two nodes to try and fix the presenting issue, but I would recommend combining them into one big node. Attach one of the highway roads to the other intersection, and use Node Controller to offset and space out both highway roads to the point where they are next to each other as part of the same intersection. At that point it's like a pseudo two-way highway. Furthermore;
    At the central intersection (10:34), you could employ the same method of hooking multiple one-way highway roads into the same 'direction' of an intersection node to match your needs. I would remove that 6-lane two-way road, and extend both highway roads to that intersection, with a 4-lane highway into the intersection (left/2 straight/right, or observe what you need), and 2-lane highway out of the intersection, to prevent the merge that would occur as it is now.
    I feel like Sunset City will have more opportunities to employ this method in the future, so if you would otherwise use a two-way road to bridge the gap between one-way roads or highways and an intersection, try and become familiar with using Node Controller to do it all at the intersection, as I think it will look neater and be more functional in the end.
    Finally, as a couple others said, Broken Node Detector might notice some things that contribute to the lag; it could be something like weird node angles or short segments.
    Keep up the great work!

    A couple things:
    The lag issue may be a possible broken node. I remember there was something (a mod or an external program) that allows you to find and yeet bugged nodes - I remember other youtuber a couple months back having this
    There is also under the i think the UnifiedUI mod (I think... could be another one) where you can not only mirror roads (i.e. you make One way going Left and then you can make One way going Right by mirroring it and seeing it how many units away you want it to be) but also being able to make better slopes and curves - might not match what you want but could get close enough to then shimmy around.

    That crashing problem is annoying me a lot too! I gaive up to play Cities because of that. Today I tried to start a new city and two times the game crashed when I tried to rebuilt the first interchange (with no reason apparently). I think that is a new problem, probably from the last updates or mods (maybe the new Loading Screen Mod). If you discover what is causing this problem, please make a video about it. On my computer (2018 mbp 15”) the game freezes almost every time I’m zoomed in and move nodes around. It gets a bit better when I’m zoomed out but it will eventually freeze after an hour or so. @@fergar0206 Depends on one's familiarity with it. You have to remember, it was originally designed to be part of a full loop that would have paralleled Biscayne and come back to 95 via 395, but due to opposition and lack of traffic, the rest of it was never built. For the very short stretch of it that DID get built, and what it connects to in the heart of downtown, it's actually pretty efficient. Sure, you have to know where you're coming from and where you're going, since the signage is lousy, but if you know your way, it's not that bad.
