    I'm 43 minutes through this and Marc Gascoigne has not yet taken a breath. I am in awe of this man, you can see why he wrote so much of the background to the games that made my teenage years bearable. The words in his head just seem to need to come out!! Cheers Mr Sorcery. 10/10 as usual

    What a cool person
    Mum is Irish and my dad is English, I moved to Ireland as a kid. I'm 44 now and have always struggled with the Tory/pride-in-empire thing that England has
    The talks you have with the GM folk is the first time I've felt proud of being half English

    Aged 12, I received Shadowmaster as a Christmas gift from relatives who knew I was into Fighting Fantasy and hoped the book might get me 'back into proper reading.' Their plan didn't work, but a Christmas holiday ensconced in the darkest Allansian wilderness was certainly an experience to remember; many thanks Mr Gascoigne.

    What a fantastic interview! Jordan, you must arrange another interview with Marc to discuss FF and his other work. There is so much more to discuss.

    The glorious days when squatting was still not negative thing for professional people to do because there was so many empty home shaped spaces around. Brilliant interview as has become such a staple, thanks again Jordan 🤩🏈 Blood Bowl, 40k and any other excuse for rolling dice is always brilliant.

    I absolutely love the culture of the 1970s, especially in the UK. And I love hearing stories about people who share my passions 20 years before I had the chance to enjoy them. I know it was all more primitive, but it had so much heart and everything was possible. I can imagine myself buying the albums I love when they were new, hanging around the record shops, then painting some toxic lead figures with my friends. I can't visit that time but I love hearing from the people who were there.

    I was captivated by Dark future, Route 666 was one of the first books I bought with my pocket money.
    Sadly it discontinued by the time I began collecting. I loved the figures and 80s aesthetic.
    I have a box of cars and bike I've managed to procure and aim to build and paint.

    What an excellent and entertaining interview! I can see Marc still has huge enthusiasm for the hobby he helped create. I loved the bit about the technical drawings of the Land Raider and Power Armor. I remember those very well. They were part of the fantastical nature of the game that has hooked me so strongly. All the bits of the start of GW are so fascinating to me. Thank you for getting this stuff out Jordan. And your TH-cam hobby is a good one! ❤👍😎

    Some of those incredible publication concepts remind me of the infamous Gaye Bikers on Acid single they released called Drill Your Own Hole, a vynal song that literally was unplayable on the turn table until you had actually drilled a hole in it, never had one myself but I saw many people who were unable to listen to their purchase because they didn’t know how to find the perfect middle of the single, I have always loved it when the people who were into something actually had to embrace a kinesthetic interaction with the product instead of being able to buy something that is otherwise commonplace.

      That's amazing. One of my treasured possessions is a 7 inch record from about 1979 by the Comsat Angels (postpunk band) and for some reason, the b-side is completely blank. The lad who first bought it new wrote in ballpoint pen on the blank b-side "Fuck All by the Fuck Alls". I was thrilled to find out I owned this little piece of history. That was the culture and the humor of the time, and that sort of thing just does not exist anymore! I love it so much and I'm sad that I missed out on it

      @@RSBurgenerit’s like people now really take themselves far too seriously and have forgotten that life is basically more of a joke that they can take part in, it’s like the whole 40k tournament scene people want to see a toy with the model weapons on it so they know how to blow it up, yet they don’t like being asked where they are keeping their actual bullets and get the arse and look at me like I am mad for asking. I say hello my name is Dsm and I have an army of Orks that all have a shooting thing and a chopping and the two who have bright rubber bands have the biggest shooting thing so shall we roll off and go dice rolling crazy?😅
      Sometimes they treat me like I am being disrespectful because they don’t understand why I have miniatures that I have sourced from Fleabay so are not all actually GW 40k miniature figures from the most recent edition of the production line, I am in a wheelchair so as I get toys to represent a figurative representation of a paper conceptually dice roll value, it feels like they have forgotten they are playing a game, some people are trying too hard to win something that actually doesn’t matter beyond being an excuse to publicly play with their toys, it can feel like that person who, when upset with how the ball game has gone decides to pick up their ball and go home.
      Personally I think it’s important to remember that life is a once in a lifetime experience so try to be nice and enjoy it without being an unnecessary, unpleasant or obtuse person and try to find the funny thing about it whatever it is (wow that was probably a bit long so I hope I didn’t become That Guy😢).

    • @RSBurgener
      @RSBurgener 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@user-qi1jc1yn3o no, not at all, I completely understand what you mean. I don't know where this gravely serious thing comes from. Culture changes because of reasons I'm sure, but sometimes I think we've made it into the Dark Future. We knew it was coming. Somehow we sensed it in the 80's, the 90's etc. Is it corporate rule? Is it stagnating wages? Is it the same reason we don't know our neighbors and stay isolated on social media? Did we forget how to behave in public and have a laugh? I think it might be some of all of it. We can watch a video like the one above this section and we can understand that we've lost something ephemeral; but we can't quite articulate it or know the reason it happened. The 20th century seems so bright to me sometimes. I listen to a Thin Lizzy record and think "where did this kind of amazing talent go?". Or in your case "why do these primitive metal Orks make me happier than the ones they're spitting out today?". I definitely get it. I just don't know how we get that back. We're stuck in a higher tech darker age.
