Cody it's totally fine to put out less happy videos, no use in pretending things are better than they are. We are here for all aspects of train time, not just "the gains". You can choo choo through to better times, I believe in you!
What a good comment. So true man. I feel like TH-camrs especially have a tough time being real with the less positive aspects of their journey as a human. Always feeling like they need to be happy and joyous all the time, when the reality is that we as fans and as friends of Cody actually don't want that. We want him to be able to be real. I hope he sees your comment because it's very true.
Cody, as a PTA, I highly recommend you see a PT for an eval before your run! They can do so many tests and measures that imaging can’t do. They can also do manual therapy, give you advice for returning to running, and prescribe exercises that can get you back to running sooner rather than later. We’ve seen patients a few weeks before their runs when they’re injured and more often than not they’ve been able to run their races with minimal problems :)
I was wondering if he ever consulted a physio? I've had a similar "injury", couldn't walk, bend my back, let alone train. The pain was immense and felt so serious. I though I actually fractured something but turned out it was ... cramped muscles deep in my lower back. No scan or MRI needed. Saw my physio for a few weeks and I've been fine since, I just need to strech those specific muscles after training now. The problem was that I couldn't "unblock" my back on my own + loosen the muscles bc it was so bad. I'm glad I wasn't seriously injured after all, even if it definitely felt that way. I hope that it turns out to be something similar (and he just needs to see a physio) for Cody and not an injury, as he suspects.
I've commented this on a few of these now because I totally agree, an evaluation is so important. Especially not self managing it and pushing through pain without knowing what it is. A physio is so important when training at this level
Cody I love the fact that you’re keeping us in tune even during the lows. It helps to not set such an upbeat expectation for training and honestly helps a lot. I’ve been dealing with injuries nonstop for the last couple of years and seeing you go through the same thought processes and troubles that i have gotten so used to makes me feel a little bit better about myself. Thanks for keeping things real Cody!!
I just finished my very first half marathon yesterday after starting running from your training videos!! I clocked a 2:03:44 time and placed 2nd for my age bracket (I was very surprised at that) which I know is not a very impressive time, but I still feel amazed that I could even run 13.1 miles. Thank you for inspiring me :) Edit: I just want to say thank you all for the sweet comments. I’m literally tearing up reading through them. I didn’t really have anyone to share this achievement with so it means a lot
Hi Cody, I ran my first race last weekend and I wanted to let you know that these videos helped me train and I listened to TMG during the run. So you really got me through all of it. Love you
i love the honesty with how he’s feeling. working out, staying fit isn’t always a linear process. you’re not always motivated, so its nice to hear Codys thoughts.
Hi Cody! I'm not a runner, but I am a diehard yoga practitioner and bike queen, and I have put my back out before. Honestly, the key is to REST. I know it's super tough and you don't want to hear it because you don't want to lose any progress, but you'll lose way more if you keep pushing yourself like this. 😔 I found that daily low-intensity walks were so helpful, and bathing with epsom salts a few times a week (15 mins at most). Painkillers help too of course, and if you can get the JR Watkins menthol camphor rub (pain-relieving medicated ointment), that does WONDERS. Overall, patience is your best friend right now. You can and WILL overcome this, but you gotta go easy on yourself. You got this, we're all with you ❤️
As someone who has had multiple injuries from running, the only solace I found that helped me mentally and physically heal was walking every day. Just walk. Keep going. You'll wake up one day, after weeks have passed, realizing you are better off than you were before. Keep your head down and keep going.
the key is to NOT rest - i’m a physical therapy student and evidence supports staying active to recover from back injuries! back pain is like the common cold - everyone gets it, and hopefully it goes away on its own time. staying active is key in recovery! obvs not pushing yourself too hard but just doing movement through normal range of motion and continuing daily activities is good!
Story time that may make you feel better - 12 weeks before the Boston Marathon I developed pes anserine tendinitis (i still don’t know how i hurt my knee) and couldn’t run for 9 weeks. The pain was so bad some days I had trouble just walking long distances. The only thing I could do with no pain was swim. So for 9 weeks, the only work out I did was swim. Finally, 3 weeks out from the race, I was able to run again and I just tried to do a bunch of 10-14 milers. Literally, the day before the marathon my knee hurt on the shake out run. Come race day, I somehow ran a 3:05 (a PR for me) on a hard & hilly course. Turned out I hadn’t lost fitness. So TLDR, DON’T LOSE HOPE!!!!!!!!
@@1997jackattack incredible!!! I definitely want to lower my time to try to qualify for Boston, but I’ve really liked running longer so I’m currently training for a 100 miler!!
These are actually so inspirational in themselves because it shows what the media doesn't; life throws curve balls. Shit sucks, and sometimes you get set back. Seeing someone like you thrive and then having a tough time but being absolutely transparent is so refreshing and actually reflects real life and is so much more motivational than people who skip/hide this part. This is real life. These are the challenges that you need to overcome to become the best. thank you Cody
Hey Cody (and pals). Sorry you're going through it. In highschool I ran competitively and was supposed to go to college for it but ended up getting a gnarly injury and got major surgery. Couldn't walk unassisted for about a year and a half and couldn't run for over 4 years. These videos motivated me to sign up for and complete my first half marathon two weeks ago, six and a half years post surgery. Having an injury is the worst, I get it, I've been there. I had to focus on any and every exercise I could do. Even when I literally couldn't move out of my bed for months unless I was carried, I would do small arm workouts. Once I could walk on my own but couldn't run, I would go on a long walk (like 5 miles) because that didn't hurt. It is so important that you don't push yourself and make anything worse. Even when it's frustrating. Your worth and value as a human go far beyond your physical capabilities right now. And you will get back to your fitness level, but now just focus on rest and recovery.
Hang in there Cody.. I'm so sorry you're having a rough time with this, it seems stressful. We appreciate you sharing everything with us and you continue to motivate so many of us. I hope you feel better soon.
Cody, I just started training for a half marathon and picked up a foot injury. These vlogs are really getting me through the tough part of maintaining patience while it heals. We love the honesty and glad you put the not so nice part out here for us to see.
Even just seeing you recover, try to do something, try to rest, I really enjoy it. I’m very sad that you won’t be able to run your marathon, but it’s better to let your body heal something than push it and then damaging it permanently. I hope you get into a better mental state soon❤
Happy late birthday Cody (: we’re so so grateful for you and for your content! please don’t be hard on yourself if you’re unable to compete, we’re subbed to this channel to support you and to watch you train and learn and be passionate
Hi Cody!! Don't know if you'll read this but I'm a D1 cross country & track athlete at University of South Carolina. I just had exertional compartment syndrome release surgery on both of my legs and totally understand how you feel. Love this content because it shows how real training can be and it's nice to know everyone goes through the same feelings. I know the feeling of not running and competing is awful but it's really helped me to be involved in the recovery process. I don't know if there's a physical therapy place near you but doing that to build back strength has been so helpful. Also, if they have an alter G treadmill that would be awesome for you. Just remember why you love running and training so much and put that into your training when you can finally run again! It sucks being hurt but it teaches you perspective. We're lucky to run and compete, it shouldn't feel like a chore. Once you get back (which you will), you'll never take it for granted again and see amazing progress in your results. (also, don't try to rush back into it. Did that freshman year and ended up with stress fractures) (also, tell kelsey i say hi im her biggest fan)
You’re still motivating so many people and showing ups and downs of training is definitely helping me. For your back, I played college softball and pro and going into college I had a herniated disk and all my doctors and ATs encouraged me to swim so give that a shot but probably ease into it as much as you can. Or if you have the resources you can do the zero gravity running. It’s like a anti-gravity treadmill And you can work on your mental game in the meantime visualize Ws or sumn lol
Bro this is amazing, even though, you are going thru a rough patch , everybody can relate and connects to you in that way. I personally love it. just vlog your life, however it is.
I've felt like I've been going through such a tough transition time recently and honestly your drive lately has inspired me so much. I started going back to the gym, getting back to old hobbies, and push myself to try new stuff, even though I didn't want to leave my bed much less my house. I know the marathon was the goal here and it sucks not reaching that, but reading through these comments it seems like you've achieved so much without even really trying. I've watched you since Vine, subscribe to TMG, and have pretty much loved most things you've done, but the support and camaraderie here is really like nothing I've ever seen and you should be so proud of that. Choo choo!
Cody, I'm almost crying with you! I had a spinal injury that was told would be 3-6months, at max. It took 3 years. Each time I was told it wasn't healed and getting worse (even by genuinely not doing anything), it was so tough. What i did was pilates, strengthening exercises - so focus on lower back exercises that are minimal, you need to strengthen the area and genuinely rest up otherwise it will only prolong getting back into it, i promise. Better to be fully healed, stronger, refine more meals and before you know it, you'll be back to it. You gave me the motivation to get back into it from your vids, so just sit tight.
hey cody, i know how you feel man. I took up running a while ago, made some awesome progress, and started entering events and everything. was really enjoying it and finally felt like i found something that was giving me joy as well as improving my health. Got hit with some foot injuries, and basically couldnt run for multiple weeks at a time, having to essentially give myself weeks to recover, just go to on a 10k run. and heres me having dreams to run a half, a full marathon, all these goals. Feel like im never going to be able to. But i guess you just gotta stay positive, and adjust the goals accordingly. sometimes you cant "Do everything you put your mind to". sometimes your body just wont let you. and thats ok. honestly, your positivity is inspiring.
I did a full marathon train up only to have the race cancelled a week out. That was right when Covid started. I still have never ran a marathon. Sucks when things don’t go as planned, but you’ll get back into it shortly. Once you have a better idea of your recovery timeframe, you can start looking for another marathon.
hey cody! in 2020 while training for my first marathon, i pushed my body wayyy too hard through some hip/IT band pain and ended up with a femoral neck stress fracture :/ the marathon was out the window, and so were most forms of exercise for around 3 months. going from such a consistent fitness schedule to barely any workouts for an extended pd of time (basically until my hip pain was gone) absolutely CRUSHED me. i was super down for the first week or so, but then i decided it could help to channel that energy i used to put into workouts, into other hobbies. i got v into cooking, music, movies, and could even put more time towards my friends/family. anytime i felt discouraged about losing all of my fitness, i tried to remind myself that the rest now would allow my body to accomplish even more in the future. ((also don't look @ other people's runs on strava too much if u think it could b toxic for u lol)) i let my body take its time before getting back into running, and since then i have completed 2 marathons w minimal injuries. you can do it bruther
As a marathon runner myself, it's important to listen to your body and give it what it needs. Things always look worse before they look better. Keep your head up!
I feel you dude. I'm battling a knee injury right as I started ramping up for my first marathon. Was making so much progress and then out of no where it's on hold. It's humbling to see someone else struggling with injury as well. Hope we both heal up soon!
Hey Cody, long time listener, first time commenter. I’m a physical therapist and I would highly recommend seeking out PT based on your symptoms. Biased, I know, but there’s a ton of evidence that correlates getting imaging (such as an MRI) and longer term low back pain, whether or not there is actually an injury. So, I would suggest going to a PT before getting imaging because results from imaging may make things seems worse than they actually are! As a PT I’ve worked with plenty of runners to help reduce pain and get back to training for marathons despite a variety of injuries! It’s been fun watching this channel, wishing you the best of luck as you get through this!
cody these videos are what get me to the gym everyday, ive never been confident in my body and now im finally starting to feel good about it after 6 years of hating my figure. only 2 months and i feel way better about life in general. i know you got this! just rest and we will choo choo through injuries and gains together. we all love you
Cody! Just wanted to say me and my fiance have loved your training content. It's so genuine and inspiring! We're hoping you get a fast recovery and even if you can't do the marathon it doesn't mean all the work you've done is wasted - you've made amazing progress and inspired thousands of people in the process! Sending all the love x
We appreciate u being real with us. I’ve been on my own fitness journey again and you’re one of my inspirations atm. I’ve been running/walking 3 miles everyday and have lost 15 pounds in 3 weeks
being injured is the absolute worst, i know it feels like it’ll never get better but trust me it will. also try not to let yourself think that you’re losing tons of progress in this time - the body takes waaaay longer to lose progress than we think. when you’re able to train again your body will readjust faster than it did the first time you started training. also water helps a lot with back pain - even if you stand up and walk back and forth in a lap pool
I hurt my ankle pretty bad a couple of days before the first injury vlog came out and have def been struggling with listening to my body and not resting as much as I should, def helps me when I watch your videos cuz I have someone going through this struggle with me, had to cancel my first official 5k because of the injury but we’ll bounce back stronger. Choo choo
Cody remember that the train can't always be moving, eventually it has to stop at the station before it carries on. you will choo choo again but better
you’re spot on with saying it’s part of the process - it’s shitty but it’s happened to all of us. working through injuries are rough, especially when training is going so well otherwise, but the good news is you’re giving your body time to recoup & with the MRI you’ll be one step closer to getting back to your normal training schedule. Ty for your transparency with this, it’s part of fitness we all dread but it helps knowing that it happens to everyone & there’s always a way to work through it
My workout buddy and I use the term “boostin” to describe pushing it further than the initial goal! Remember to boost, even if it’s just the stair climber. Proud of you always, Cody! As a side note, your joke about the stairclimber blog sounds like what my fitness instagram currently is 🙃 I give updates on everything, but honestly it’s super helpful to look back on! Choo choo!
PS Boostin also applies to nutrition! Sneak veggies in, make healthier changes. Even if you’re resting, there are other areas physically and mentally that you can be proud of. I hope you get some answers soon!
Your training videos have really been inspiring me, even these “less happy” videos. I really feel for you as I had a back injury at a point I was my fittest and as soon as my back was getting better and I was improving my fitness I got a severe concussion. I had lost all motivation and my mental state was at an all time low. Now I am trying to build my fitness back from the bottom and its extremely frustrating. At one point I couldn’t do anything, but physio and lower intensity exercise have been helping me. Your training vlogs are really inspiring me to sign up for a race to work towards when I am better. Thank you for sharing even the worst moments and I know you’ll come back stronger and wish you a quick recovery!
I had a tibial plateau fracture that required me not using my right leg/knee for 12+ weeks so I feel the pain. You might not need something as extreme, but I looked up videos of “no leg workouts” on TH-cam and there’s a lot of sitting cardio/strength training you can do. Not as competitive as you would probably like, but remember being able to walk at all is still a blessing!! Love this channel btw ❤ thanks for the vids
Glad to hear your seeing your doctor. I dealt with a back/nerve injury last year and I only started seeing progress after working with a sports physical therapist. I tried all the advice on the internet but nothing worked cause I didn’t know the root problem. Once you know the issue and how to actively attack it, your mental state will improve almost instantly.
Keep your head up, Cody! You'll get right back into training when you're able. You've inspired so many people to achieve physical fitness (myself included) because of your dedication!
I’m loving these, even if you’re not fully training at the moment, it’s real! Also cannot wait to get the merch for tomorrow, I’ve been wanting the dessert club merch for so long !!!
Appreciate you being real about your journey Cody, it’s really inspiring. I’m currently nursing an injury too and can relate to what you’re going through. My advice is simple… listen to your body! Visit your Dr, get imaging done and find a good physical therapist. That’s been a game changer for me. Best of luck to you, hope you’re able to keep your spirits up despite the circumstances. Just remember, slow and steady wins the race! :)
Bro. I am so fucking crushed that Cody got injured. I can totally put myself in his shoes and yet I still cant imagine the feeling of training so hard for this marathon and not being able to participate. Im sure to most people its just "whatever" but i really feel for Cody. If you read this man, just know, all of us are praying for your recovery and I can only hope this doesnt deter you from continuing to train. There will always be another marathon and everyone on this chanel is rooting for you. Try top see the bright side of this. Theres always another marathon and the next one you will be even better trained to complete once youve fully healed. Im sure you feel very low but once your back and running youll have an entirely new outlook on how much of a previlege you have to even take part in such an event. I wish you the best Cody, and i cant FUCKING wait till youre healed and posting more vids of you training for your next marathon. Love you man, CHOO motherfucking C H O O
i ran my first 5k after breaking my ankle a few months ago and you were a huge part in me wanting to pick up running again!! i hope you recover soon and don’t be too hard on yourself about the content :)
Get with a physical therapist and when looking for one make sure they work with athletes. Back pain is real tricky because sometimes the best thing is to train through the pain and other times rest is the only the way to heal. Heat is almost always helpful in these situations to get blood flowing. Don’t listen to me though go find a professional!! Bumps in the road happen and expectations may need to be shifted, stick with it CHOO! CHOOO!!
Been weight training for about 8 years and been half marathon training for the past year and these moments definitely come with the journey! Don’t beat yourself up too much. While you may not be able to train, you are inspiring all the people who follow you and doing so in a very honest and transparent way!
I appreciate you sharing this bc I’m in the middle of the same situation where I hurt my leg & had to miss my first half, it truly messes with your mind. Thanks for not shying away from sharing!
Best advice is to rest completely and limit movement to walks. I have dealt with injury before and working through it only prolonged the recovery. Interestingly, when I was injured, took a complete break for 2-3 weeks and came back I was lifting heavier and running farther than I had before. The gains from the final training before the break had fully manifested, so rest brother.
Hey man, I'm injured too. It's not fun. But boy do these times make you even more grateful when you are out there injury-free. You got it kid. I believe in you
hey cody, love the realistic videos, not everything has to be happy all the time. the cody trains content has motivated me and get to the gym and scared or nervous to, love you loads!
Cody, seeing you deal with this hiccup is more motivational than seeing you train. This type of content is so rare. This makes us realise we all have problems and we can get through them. I can not put in words what I feel, but I want to tell you I hope everything works out for you and you are not sad anymore Thank you for posting i am sad videos, showing every part of the process
I know injury absolutely sucks, I am in a similar position as you Cody... A week ago I got a knee injury - tore a ligament, it happened within a blink of an eye. I went from exercising everyday to not being able to walk, now struggling on crutches. It is very easy to get caught up in the negative mindset, thinking this is the worst, you can't do that one thing that brings you joy and fills your life... try your best to think positive thoughts. Yes, you can't do certain things because of the pain but stepping back a little, there is still so much you can do. It is just the matter of time until you're recovered so try to make that time less miserable for yourself, you're in control of that :)) I wish you a speedy recovery
My man... I feel your pain. Having gone through almost the exact same ironman journey you seem to be, I have some words of advice. Rest and RECOVERY is absolutely key. Try a whoop strap to learn recovery scoring and get a better feel for when your body is ready to hammer or not. Also, as soon as you said you don't stretch often and, from what I can tell, no proper recovery protocols... I knew this would happen. Because it did to me as well, multiple times. It's just part of the journey, but it does suck and the depression is real when you get kicked out of your beloved training routine. If your body is not ready to perform, but you force it to - bad things happen. Running is so hard on the body, avoid it all costs while recovering/repairing. Use that opportunity to get your swim fitness way up, then as you get better, implement more biking (outdoors, trust me), and finally slowly ramp back into running (at an uncomfortably slow pace!). Find a really good physical therapist as well, and work with them to better your form, strengthen hips/feet/etc... all the weird shit you don't know needs to be strong for triathlon. DYNAMIC STRETCHING, FOAM ROLL, REST, GYM and SWIM YOUR ASS OFF! Normatecs and a massage gun do wonders as well. Also, I HIGHLY recommend 2-4 full body sports massages per month. I have way more advice but I'll leave it at that. Choo choo my guy 🙏.
Ughhh so sorry Cody 😭 I feel for you. You will heal eventually tho, I promise. Unfortunately, the healing part is slow and discouraging but all ur supporters are sending good vibes !!! Much love
Hey Cody, I really love this channel, and despite how much injuries suck it really is a large part of running and training. So as much as it sucks to see you having a really rough go of it these past few weeks I truly believe you documenting it is incredibly valuable for your viewers. As someone who's been running for the majority of my life and working with other runners daily, injuries are just so shitty. the only thing that I can ever take away as a positive of them is just a learning experience. The biggest thing a lot of my teammates do during injury is work on mental skills. For a super endurance athlete like yourself, I feel like something that may be beneficial is on a day when you can't train and spend 15-20 minutes trying to bring yourself into the place you were mentally during your first ultra. Just rehearsing going into the "pit" and just being comfortable being in that extreme mental discomfort may be a small way to help continue to prep yourself for the races ahead. I find it super useful to look at footage of my races to get into that mindset. I'm really rooting for you man and I'm wishing the best of luck to you! Feels weird to say, but if you need anything and there's any way I could help I would love to man! -Zanis "Chooo-Choooooo!"
This channel is one of my favorites, I love it here the honesty and struggle is real which is perfect because as human beings it’s good to face some challenges from time to time
Physio/Athletic Therapy! Absolute must for any athlete not just getting back from an injury but also for staying on top of injury prevention. Rest can do a lot obviously, but physio is crucial IMO to get/keep your body working as good as possible! Best of luck, love the channel 😃
Choo choo Cody, long-time watcher first-time commenter because I too have had back pain issues so want to throw my two cents in. I threw my back out in January of this year playing hockey, and can relate a lot to what you're experiencing: I had aching pain in my back and down my left leg constantly, it was difficult to find comfortable sleeping or resting positions. I would wake up in the morning and not want to move at all, just hoping it had disappeared, and my mental health was suffering. If you're not already, my strong recommendation is to go to physiotherapy and massage therapy to get help from professionals. If you find out you do have a disc injury of some kind, don't worry because they're actually quite common and you can totally recover! The pain lasted about three months for me. What I did while I was recovering: walks, weightlifting approved by my physio, stretching and mobility work. It helped me get out of the house and feel like I was making physical gains (improved mobility) that also help you prevent further injury.
I spent the beginning of October with a fractured jaw, and three weeks after somewhat healing, I tried to go back to my normal, outgoing routine, but then I was hit with sciatica. Back pain is the worst and It’s frustrating for sure but watching you train through your ups and downs inspires me through my toughest days. Keep on chugging along, Cody.
running is one of the hardest exercises on the body. i would also recommend if you haven’t already see a PT to make sure your running form is correct. many don’t realize there’s actually a certain form you’re supposed to have while running and if you’re not doing that you can seriously hurt yourself. hope you heal soon bud ❤️🩹
Hey I empathize, mine was a bike crash that tore my PCL, while preparing for my first half ironman. I was wrecked for awhile, a year later, I completed two half ironmans. Better to heal and live to fight another day. You got this, lament, rest, and heal. Love the vlogs and I appreciate your genuineness. and I don't know if you care, but I'll be praying for you.
Chronic pain, especially when it’s hindering you from doing what you love, is incredibly tough. Even if you don’t run this marathon you will get another one. And you will get the iron man. You are an extremely determined and strategic person. This channel has motivated so many of us, me included. You’re doing a lot of good with this channel even in the sad times. Because of it I’ve started working out again, even on the days I don’t want to. When I started I was coming off 3 months of bed rest and could barely walk more than 15 minutes without intense pain. Last week I climbed 1000 vertical feet in a mile. Trust in the healing process. See a PT. That was a game changer for me. You are down but you’re certainly not out. CHOO MF CHOO.
Cody thank you so much for vlogging even during the bad parts. Been feeling down about how my training is going. (I started running after watching your trains videos). These help a lot to keep me motivated
Hey Cody, I've struggled with muscle injuries and found that hot yoga really helps heat the muscles up and stretch them out. It's all based on how you feel though. As a distance runner, finding a low intensity hot yoga class has always been key for recovery in my life.
About a year ago, I started working out (mostly weight training) to get out of a mental rut that I was in and it helped significantly. So much so that I became obsessed with my physical fitness. Because of life, I started to have days where I wasn’t able to fit in a workout due to time constraints and beat myself up so bad. I don’t know exactly what happened but one day after feeling depressed, I had a moment where I realized that I was beating myself up simply for being human. I had high expectations for myself but the mistakes or bumps that came were just a symptom of the human condition. That helped me feel better about my goals and I started to make sure to spend some time with other hobbies and qualified them as just as or more important than working out. I still workout often but I understand that at times, I am not gonna be where I think I should be concerning my goals but at least I am still showing up!
Hey Cody. Been going through some depression, luckily my therapist has helped me, but these videos too, helps me stay motivated to continue doing things, no matter how mundane they seem. But training is now even better. Choo Choo my friend
Hey Cody, I've also been dealing with a lower back injury for the past two months, I had to move across the country at the same time so I didnt get a chance to rest. I usually climb and do kickboxing and its been very tough to not be active for over 2 months. I'm getting help from physios and massage therapists and the only thing I can say is I definitely relate to the mental and physical struggle, and we're going through this together! Sending you love
Hi Cody! Something similar happened to me some months ago. I had been running for two months when my legs started hurting to the point I wasn’t even able to walk. Turned out I had bone edemas in both legs and I had to rest (wasn’t allowed to walk more than 600m) for three months. Not gonna lie, I felt frustrated a lot and sometimes kind of depressed, so I totally understand what you are going through, it sucks, but my best advice to you would be to rest as much as you can so you’re able to get on track sooner, to keep pushing yourself is only going to worsen the injury and eventually the amount of rest needed would increase. Honestly, those three months taught me to listen to my body and to stop being so hard on myself, some weeks ago I started running again and I am the happiest i’ve ever been and beginning to see progress once more. Don’t give up! Don’t be so hard on yourself and be patient, the time when you’re able to continue with your normal routine will come faster than you think!
ur not losing any progress!! i went thru this with my acl. once u get thru it all ull be mentally stronger. its such an important part of the process. these things happen to slow us down! the mantra i used was “miraculous recovery”. not sure if that will help but trust me after its all over ull be happy u went thru it! 😊
you inspired me to take my back rehab exercises seriously. now it’s feeling better than ever so i can get back to climbing hard and waking up without pain in the mornings. it took my back about 8 months to be without pain because i didn’t rest it properly
Cody my mum had her back give out in a really bad way, she couldnt even sit up for a few days. She's been finding that once rested and having less pain, gentle pilates has done wonders for her back. Stretches like child's pose, cobra, cat cow and pendulum are all great for the back but please don't push it too early, keep it very gentle to start. Hoping it's nothing serious for you!
injuries are just ways of ur body saying to slow down and it sucks, but the body heals which is amazing so be at peace knowing this is all temporary. you’ll be back in no time💪🏼it sucks but you’ll get through it and you can still do the marathon just walk/run and lose the expectations u had for it bc ur progress is awesome and is still forward motion. growth isn’t always linear
Hi Cody these videos are truly helping me cope with my recent shoulder injury I got in the gym. Totally feel like I’m going backwards now as well, so keep your head up high and I’ll keep mine up too ❤
I'm training for a 5k and have literally never ran before in my life and just want you to know how motivating and inspiring your videos are!!!! It's so hard not to be hard on myself and celebrate the small achievements (ran a mile in under 13 mins today!) its just super motivating and i really appreciate it!
It’s totally fine to have some rough times through your journey and you don’t know maybe this injury happened to you for a reason i know that’s the least thing you wanted to hear but everything happens for a reason, and I’m so sorry that you can’t run you marathon but just now that you’ll get better and stronger, i had a very bad injury in my foot and i had to leave the job i love cause I couldn’t walk anymore but now im much better and when i look back there was no reason for me to be sad casually there will always be something better happens to you, love you cody💗
I've dealt with back pain since high school and literally the only thing that kind of helps is icing it as much as possible, light stretching, and not using it as much as possible. For me, literally being horizontal is best. Be careful, hang in there man. These vlogs have been so great and motivating but life happens. I feel so bad, I'm putting all my good vibes into the universe for you. Thanks for sharing, choo choo forever
Hey Cody - your ambition is one of your greatest strengths but you need to find the balance between work & play. You are driven by your own success and find fulfillment in improvement which is great - you have a lot to be proud of. However, it seems that your sense of self gets questioned a lot when you aren’t measuring up to your idea of success. Remember that it’s all about perspective - YOU get to define what success is for yourself so learn that sometimes success looks like self-care. Sometimes it means pacing and taking it slow even when your goals are on a different timeline. You don’t have to “take it easy” but you do need to listen to your body - your injury is telling you something. Slow down - don’t give up on your dreams just learn the discipline of mindfulness 🙏🏻 big fan! Hope this helps. It’s okay to be a sad boi, it’s just not okay to stay that way ☺️
Just some non medical advice of no harm no foul things that may ease and help the pain a little bit; tiger balm and/or high potency CBD salve/oil on and around the area, regular soaking (bath, hot tub, etc.), cold compresses, and depending on what it is (and I'd get professional advice before attempting anything) gentle gentle slow stretching (think yin yoga) of the back may help alleviate and aid in healing. I've read a few other comments and I do believe as well that complete rest is the best route to go, you really don't want to make it worse by continuing to agitate it. You'll get through this!
@@yourenotthatguypal99 what a good reply aswell
Yeah we will choo choo through together 💕
@@will6704 Thank you bro
Hopping on this choo choo train!
13 on the stair master is what separates the train passengers from the train conductors. Congratuations on this achievement Cody.
Hearing Cody call gulab jamun "galoob jamoon" made my year
Fr
hahahahahah i was thinking the exact same thing. lmao galoob jamoon
I was just coming to recommend this! Physical Therapy is a game changer when it comes to injury rehab!
Totally agree. I'd also be getting remedial massage and acupuncture.
YES !! boost this comment so he sees it cause this exactly the help he needs :)
Cody, we're here for you brother. You'll get through this, we're all rooting for ya. Choo choo man.
Well said. Choo choo.
Thank you for inspiring me :)
Edit: I just want to say thank you all for the sweet comments. I’m literally tearing up reading through them. I didn’t really have anyone to share this achievement with so it means a lot
Congrats!
That’s so impressive omg congrats!!!
hell yeah, proud of you
Good job!!!
Congratulations!
Hi Cody, I ran my first race last weekend and I wanted to let you know that these videos helped me train and I listened to TMG during the run. So you really got me through all of it. Love you
Let's gooo🥳🥳🥳

i love the honesty with how he’s feeling. working out, staying fit isn’t always a linear process. you’re not always motivated, so its nice to hear Codys thoughts.
100%
Beautiful words. ❤️
I am so sorry but initially read it as “I am a diarrhea yoga practitioner” 😂😂 made me so confused I had to read it again
the key is to NOT rest - i’m a physical therapy student and evidence supports staying active to recover from back injuries! back pain is like the common cold - everyone gets it, and hopefully it goes away on its own time. staying active is key in recovery! obvs not pushing yourself too hard but just doing movement through normal range of motion and continuing daily activities is good!
Wow that’s incredible!! What was your PR before that, if you don’t mind me asking!? I’m currently at a 3:26 PR
@@jackwitter3526 thanks! it was 3:10. Ran a 3 hour marathon last year and still chasing that elusive sub-3.
@@1997jackattack incredible!!! I definitely want to lower my time to try to qualify for Boston, but I’ve really liked running longer so I’m currently training for a 100 miler!!
@@jackwitter3526 that’s sick! Ultras seem like such a daunting race!
my name is also Jacqueline 😳
This could end up being some of the best stuff you've made. You could have a real story arc here.
cody: "if you purchase our merch you get entered to win."
also cody: "no purchase necessary"
Did that freshman year and ended up with stress fractures)
(also, tell kelsey i say hi im her biggest fan)
You’re still motivating so many people and showing ups and downs of training is definitely helping me.
For your back, I played college softball and pro and going into college I had a herniated disk and all my doctors and ATs encouraged me to swim so give that a shot but probably ease into it as much as you can. Or if you have the resources you can do the zero gravity running. It’s like a anti-gravity treadmill
And you can work on your mental game in the meantime visualize Ws or sumn lol
i’m currently struggling with a lot of things right now and by putting “not happy content” out you’re actually helping me feel less alone
even if you’re not actively running/biking/swimming etc, we still
appreciate these! love ya code
Bro this is amazing, even though, you are going thru a rough patch , everybody can relate and connects to you in that way. I personally love it. just vlog your life, however it is.
Swimming is really good for recovery. I do club, but taking a rest day and doing some easy swimming really helps
the stair master is genuinely so tiring though so good for you for making an hour at level 10-13 dude
Choo choo!
praying for your speedy recovery, cody. thank you for sharing your journey no matter how tough it is. we appreciate you
Cody, I'm almost crying with you!
Cody, thanks for sharing this whole journey with us! I’m sorry it’s not great right now, but seriously you’re still inspiring me to be better.
cody these videos are what get me to the gym everyday, ive never been confident in my body and now im finally starting to feel good about it after 6 years of hating my figure. only 2 months and i feel way better about life in general. i know you got this! just rest and we will choo choo through injuries and gains together. we all love you
Happy birthday man, wish you the best
All my ancestors rolled over in their grave hearing that gulab jamun pronunciation
We appreciate u being real with us. I’ve been on my own fitness journey again and you’re one of my inspirations atm. I’ve been running/walking 3 miles everyday and have lost 15 pounds in 3 weeks
being injured is the absolute worst, i know it feels like it’ll never get better but trust me it will. also try not to let yourself think that you’re losing tons of progress in this time - the body takes waaaay longer to lose progress than we think. when you’re able to train again your body will readjust faster than it did the first time you started training. also water helps a lot with back pain - even if you stand up and walk back and forth in a lap pool
energy is everything IS BACK! Cody, you're funnier when you're sad but I hope you heal superfast (:
I hurt my ankle pretty bad a couple of days before the first injury vlog came out and have def been struggling with listening to my body and not resting as much as I should, def helps me when I watch your videos cuz I have someone going through this struggle with me, had to cancel my first official 5k because of the injury but we’ll bounce back stronger. Choo choo
rooting for you
Cody remember that the train can't always be moving, eventually it has to stop at the station before it carries on. you will choo choo again but better
you’re spot on with saying it’s part of the process - it’s shitty but it’s happened to all of us. working through injuries are rough, especially when training is going so well otherwise, but the good news is you’re giving your body time to recoup & with the MRI you’ll be one step closer to getting back to your normal training schedule.
I hope you get some answers soon!
makes me so happy to see that cody also gets socks from costco. stay grounded king
Love you man, CHOO motherfucking
C H O O
i ran my first 5k after breaking my ankle a few months ago and you were a huge part in me wanting to pick up running again!! i hope you recover soon and don’t be too hard on yourself about the content :)
I'm only nine runs away from my taper. Can't believe I started my half marathon training at the start of this channel and now I'm 4 weeks away!
choo choo
good luck on your half!!
Imagine a high-energy, enthusiastic stairmaster coach-led class like those aerobics or spinning or whatever classes at gyms lol
I appreciate you sharing this bc I’m in the middle of the same situation where I hurt my leg & had to miss my first half, it truly messes with your mind. Thanks for not shying away from sharing!
I'm so sorry :( you've inspired so many people with these videos and whatever is meant to happen will happen. I'm sending good wishes your way!
I believe in you
“Cody No Trains” sounds like a Sopranos mafia nickname 😂
hey cody, love the realistic videos, not everything has to be happy all the time. the cody trains content has motivated me and get to the gym and scared or nervous to, love you loads!
Cody, seeing you deal with this hiccup is more motivational than seeing you train.
This type of content is so rare. This makes us realise we all have problems and we can get through them. I can not put in words what I feel, but I want to tell you I hope everything works out for you and you are not sad anymore
Thank you for posting i am sad videos, showing every part of the process
I’m so happy you’re recovering!! Here’s hoping you recover in time to run !
This is actually good advice-hope he sees this
Ughhh so sorry Cody 😭 I feel for you. You will heal eventually tho, I promise. Unfortunately, the healing part is slow and discouraging but all ur supporters are sending good vibes !!! Much love
Hey Cody,
I really love this channel, and despite how much injuries suck it really is a large part of running and training.

"Chooo-Choooooo!"
Hey Cody,
I've struggled with muscle injuries and found that hot yoga really helps heat the muscles up and stretch them out.
Honestly these are helping a bunch. Also hurt rn so I feel you. It is part of the process so please keep making them!
Dying at the “guloob jumoon” pronunciation 💀
you inspired me to take my back rehab exercises seriously. now it’s feeling better than ever so i can get back to climbing hard and waking up without pain in the mornings. it took my back about 8 months to be without pain because i didn’t rest it properly
Hey Cody, been through my fair share of injuries including back issues. It does suck but you just have to take it one day at a time. You’ve got this!
I hope you feel better soon, i echo everyone else--its okay to not be okay, its okay to post sad videos!!
signed up for my first half marathon in feb bc of cody trains xxxx hope ur back recovers, let yourself rest!
Turmeric / kava root as well if you can find a salve or orally
