  • A giant chandelier. Massive set pieces. Nearly two dozen trucks and numerous stagehands. Hundreds of costumes and wigs. An Elephant. A little dry ice and pyrotechnics. These are but a few of the iconic elements which all go into the most thrilling theatrical experience in Broadway history...and Broadway/L.A. takes you on a backstage look at the load-in process for the Farewell Engagement of THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA. (By the way...if you watch closely, you might just catch a glimpse of "Box 5"!!)

I cannot believe on how much work goes into the Phantom of the Opera. I love this show so much and I've seen it four times. Its an awesome show. For those who haven't seen it. I highly recommend it. I've seen it when I was five years old and I have been loving it ever since. Thanks for posting this video up. (:

The longer a show runs, the more profitable it becomes as costumes, sets and such become paid for. Oddly, lights and many of the mechanics are not bought, but rented even for long running shows because maintenance is covered by the lessor. After a time, your only outstanding costs are labour and maintenence.

At first, I was thinking "The chandelier is boring. They need something more like what's in the movie or at the Royal Albert Hall." now, when I see what it's like without the dark, and a close up, I get a clear view of its beauty. Now, I no longer think it looks boring. How I'd love to have it in my apartment

What is the full musician count (and types of instruments, especially for the strings) of this orchestra, if you don't mind me asking?
I've been trying to find any archival program from this exact touring production, but hadn't been successful so far.

How come the small orchestra doesn’t have a tuba?

It can be replaced by midi keyboards now

I do believe the sarcasm in my statement was not sensed by you. I thought the "LoL" would have been the give away but I guess not. But yes, that was sarcasm.
