Pasha actually comes from Russian orthodox tradition. It is a rather new thing in Finland. I first tasted it in the 80's. Whereas mämmi has been made for centuries.
Mämmi is the dessert you could make in Finland in early spring. You didn't even have the root vegetables anymore, that you used for christmas foods, all you had was rhye, if you were lucky. So, you made mämmi out of rhye malt and rhye flour.
A bit of a clarification. Pasha is not actually a Finnish dish. It's just something we adopted from the Russians for easter. That gluten free mämmi looks a bit weird. The real deal is somewhat runny and that looked pretty solid. That said you also should eat it with (not whipped) cream and sugar if you want the traditional way.

Aino salmiakki ice cream is my personal choise. If you want better texture for mämmi, eat it before it gets room temperature. What aren't you a native Finnish speaker? You learnt it as an adult? I'm amazed. Need to investigate.

The idea here being that during Easter Saturday witches are particularly active, because Christ is dead. BTW, having just watched a video on Polish Easter tradition I'm wondering whether the decorated branches are distantly related to a Polish tradition of making faux palm branches & bunches of palm leaves and taking them to church of Palm Sunday.

The gluten free mämmi is nothing compared to the real one. I got celiac disease diagnose two years ago and I really miss the real mämmi.

Mämmi is made from rye flour and malt, at least traditionally. How can you make that gluten-free? Did you check what the ingredients were?

You don't need to whip the cream for mämmi, just pour cream on the top and sprinkle some sugar also. So yummy.

Unfortunately that gluten free version is no where near that traditional one. It's ok, but I used to eat that regular version, but nowadays that I need gluten free, nah.

@@TootsieBlabberThe first box that shows on the video says "gluteeniton" in that sticker, that's gluten free. The latter box on that video was one on the most traditional and popular ones though, so I'm not sure which one you tasted 😊

Ah.. Just read some comments and you know this all ready. to be honest I use some sugar on top too like some others just to get it a bit more sweeter. Especially if we are running low on cream. :)
