So, I live in Southport, not two minutes from where the attack happened. I know a couple of the parents who were at the dance class with their daughters. My family went to the vigil held down on Lord Street, and when the vigil was coming to an end, we could hear the rioters starting to kick up (we didn't actually know at the time because it was just a lot of distant noise). We could hear it at our home and see the smoke too, and my kid was terrified. And when they left, it was our community that had to clean up their mess, which I'm honestly still so proud of how our community (without any hesitation) came out to do so. The rioters didn't leave Southport having proved a point to those of us who live here, or having passed on their message. All they left us with was more devastation, and that's all they'll ever do.

I don't understand why a group of people, not from Southport, would take their anger out on an innocent community that was holding a vigil for those little girls who died and for their families. Those people took their anger out not that far from the vigil where families were still gathered. No, I don't understand that anger. I live in Middlesbrough and yes it was terrifying to have cars flipped and set alight outside my house and people making “race checkpoints” at traffic lights. But the day after our community got together to voluntarily clean up the streets, and our local mosque set up a gofundme for the victims that surpassed it’s goal over 10x. My town has felt so much stronger as a community since these riots. There's a huge Muslim population in my area and during the riots there was obviously a lot of fear. The mosque next to my work had security put on their doors because of this, as even neighbouring towns were having problems with riots, but fortunately they never needed to put a days work in haha. I was pretty hyper-aware of how I acted during this time, as a bald person who could quite easily be seen as a racist stereotype so would always try to be extra polite and nice to any Asian people, and actually ended up learning a decent amount of Arabic greetings and farewells, as well as becoming matey with the security at the mosque (two Muslim gents). I've never been prouder of my town anyways for not having any issues during this time, especially as it's a pretty overlooked and run down town in Greater Manchester.

I am a British Pakistani Muslim man, and all I remember about that time was the wide-spread fear. Everyday was a new message about a new place to avoid because of riots. The place I worked at during that time didn't let us work from home so everyday going into Leeds on the public transport was anxiety ridden to say the least. I also found out how prejudice my co-workers were and how little empathy they had for the people affected by the riots, telling me to get in the gym and get on the treadmill so I can run faster when the rioters come after me, or the whole its working class scum of society, the uneducated, the stupid, their the only ones rioting and being racist no-one else. They just laughed at the whole situation and I didn't feel confident reporting to HR because they are shit at that company and also it was the majority of the office against me so they probably would have grouped together to say they were just joking. I also had a job interview during the riots for the job I'm working at currently, and I got a call the morning of the interview telling me they will send me an email with a team interview to move the in person interview into an online interview, because they were scared for my safety. It was an insane time, the thing that will always anger me and other people in marginalized groups is that everything you mentioned in the video we were aware of and were following in real time because we were affected by this stuff in real time. This video was amazing and I'm just glad more people will be made aware of all the gradual shit that happens in this country that always ends in crisis.

i live near southport, been to school there, worked there, all but from there. when the attack happened i was on holiday. i couldn't believe the news i was reading. when the riots started, none of it felt real. my heart ached for the families, and the community pulling together cleaning up after something so traumatic. by the time i came home the riots were over and the streets were back to how they were. all that remained were the pink ribbons tied to fences on quiet roads. i wish i could've been there to offer the community my support. it's such a shame that the town's name will now be inseparable from all of this.

To me it started with one key thing. This notion of "illegal" migrants. It was never pushed back on. People arriving on boats, or via any other method into the UK aren't breaking the law UNLESS they don't submit themselves and ask for / apply for asylum. All the people in hotels and such aren't here illegally, merely waiting to be processed. Waiting because various governments broke that system on purpose, and now they're just stacking up. If you arrive here on a boat, and just disappear into the night then you're illegal. But they aren't doing that. Process their applications, accept or reject and deport was always the system. It was purposefully torn down.
It's a misconception caused by Brexit, when we were in the EU people could claim asylum while in France because we had a weird land share thing going on. Since we left that's gone and now boats are the only option since to claim asylum you must be on British soil
I know this was so annoying, the Tories going off about illegal immigrants when there was a human rights treaty put in place that exempted asylum seekers from illegally entering the country as long as no other crime was committed. If an undocumented migrant comes to Massachusetts they will have a very hard time finding gainful employment due to our particular economy so they aren't really at risk of driving down salaries in tech and life sciences. Although we do have right to shelter laws, so an influx of undocumented folks puts strain our very expensive and very limited emergency shelter stock which is already under massive strain due to legal inter state migration. When an influx of them go to a state with an agricultural or manufacturing economy without our welfare their undocumented status makes them easy to exploit and this does drive down wages for legitimate workers in those fields. The unique laws and economic conditions of the area in which they end up will dictate which symptoms of the issue manifest most ferociously we are talking about and estimated 12 million undocumented people in the US not a few hunded or a few thousand. It can be that they take the jobs in one area and deplete the finite welfare resources in another. It's unfortunate that decades of mouth shitting during election races has made people glaze over very real issues that the United States in particular has with migration. Regardless of what political loyalty badge you wear there is a very real human cost and it is always the low income people that will shoulder the burden.

I live in southport, and the rioters burned 2 charity bins, which were outside the mosque, which was donated kid cloths. Seeing the mealted boxes on the way to work just reminded me about the irone of committing terror on terror and expecting change.

In France, we have a far-right politician who invented the word "Franticide" meaning the strategic elimination of the white french. Whenever a foreigner commited a crime on a white french person, he'd say that the french person was only targeted because he was french. It didn't last very long though as a white french man killed someone during this period and he couldn't defend his stance. But it was such a dangerous rhetoric to come up with, he created anger by saying foreigners are strategically eliminating the french whites. He didn't care when foreigners commited crimes against other foreigners or non white frenchs, instead of the victim being random and happening to be white as we are in France, it became the criminal commited a crime to strategicallty eliminate the white french.

I lived as a kid in a majority Asian area, I went to a school which was 75% BAME and so the majority of my school play dates were at Muslim or Sikh kids houses on very Muslim or Sikh streets. Never felt unwanted or like I couldn't be there. I live in Leicester now which has a huge Asian population and I work in engineering where id say 70% of my colleagues are Indian/Pakistani/Bangladeshi, they celebrate Christmas with us, we celebrate Eid or Holi with them, we have non booze nights out so the Muslim lads can come too, we have veggie meals so dietary restrictions aren't an issue.. and I go round their houses with my husband to play murder mystery games or D&D, in their very Asian neighbourhoods and never do we get shit or feel uncomfortable. I think if you're just assuming you're not welcome somewhere, you won't be because you're bringing the face of someone who doesn't like what you see. Jews historically live in neighborhoods, so did the Irish, my son's best friend is Nigerian and he and his family are mostly Nigerian and stay within the Nigerian groups but we're there too, getting to know them, making friends, going on holidays with them, sharing recipes. Growing up around different religions and cultures and food and music is a blessing, if you don't look at it as though you're not invited. Just go, meet people, speak to people, be friendly. Stop looking at it like you're aren't allowed because why wouldn't you be? You can go into a mosques or a gurdwara at any time and people are lovely, same as any religious place really, even as an atheist. Just include yourself, don't act as though you are segregated because brown people live together when suburbs are predominantly white people living together. Is that segregation? No, people just live near who they know in their economic brackets. That's my advice anyway, get involved. Go to a Diwali festival or Eid, people love others to be interested in their culture, be interested in theirs and they'll show it back to you. I've had 34 years of doing it from birth to now and ive never had a bad experience.

The whole thing is a mess of disinformation. Can anyone point to a reputable study on crime rates by immigrants in the UK? Apparently, in Malmo and in Germany, studies have been done showing significantly higher rates of crime by immigrants and first generations. Not sure the UK publishes such stats, which leaves a void for conspiracy theorists. The problem I see with the defence of "Yes, but we have our own home grown criminals" is that immigrant crime is additional. Even if only10% of people in prisons are immigrants ( i believe that percent is in the right ball park, accurate stats can be hard to find), that is thousands of crimes that wouldn't have been committed if we had limited immigration. If only 0.1% of Muslims is a potential extremist terrorist, that's 4,000 if them and it only takes 1. Again, we have potential far right terrorists too, but the Islamist terrorists are *additional* to those. Shouldn't we be solving problems rather than increasing them? There are economic reports on the positive benefits of immigration that are often quoted by liberals, but they are as shoddy as the grooming gang study you mention. Others suggest increase ib house price and reduction in wages. Trying to gain objective info is difficult, articles and studies are all over the place. I think both sides are biased. Even as a lefty myself, I believe that mass immigration of the numbers in recent years exists primarily to supply cheap workers. Keep wages down, increase property prices. It benefits the wealthy, who, of course, can afford to live in areas far from the potential problems.

If you're genuinely curious then feel free to read on. This is simply just my personal view of this, not meant to argue. Immigration is ironically a British value. It stands as a virtue of liberty that people from oppressive regimes can come to a first world nation and make a life for themselves. We take this for granted because we were born in this country. The most we can claim is being some abstract notion of "working class" but even then, we live like kings compared to most of the world, if people claim "boo hoo" their culture is inferior or that's their problem, then this is simply ignorance. Immigration has been executed horribly in this country because no one can agree on a proper solid system to implement it and also out of laziness because it hasn't been on politicians agender, as far as they're concerned, it's keeping the economy stable. We left the EU and so our economy, as predicted, took a missive dip, therefore migrants were used to fill the void of our failing economy. The notion that they bring gangs of crime is true to a level but this problem was here before, Glasgow, Liverpool and many other places in the deprived areas of the country which are mostly white, have similar levels of crime as with Birmingham or London but the latter areas are ideal locations to use for anti migrant propaganda. The former places like Glasgow or Liverpool don't tend to showcase the superior image of "British culture" so aren't used as statistical proof of a failed multiculturalism. We could potentially reduce this problem with building proper infostructure around the communities that lack investment. Most nonces in this country are white, they're lonely sick losers, so it would seem white nonces want "our daughters" as much as anyone else. There are indeed Muslim rape gangs which no one likes, but why would we target them as mascots of Islam when the majority of Muslims in this country have stronger family values than we do? most of them are simply just married with kids. We should be able to discuss Immigration sensibly but unfortunately the nationalists have long claimed this conversation and now ordinary people are starting to buy into their twisted narrative. I have always been skeptical of immigration talks in this country because it's always the case that every time there's economic problems, immigrants are to blame. The great depression saw the rise in anti jew rhetoric, the 1970s economic crash caused a rise in nationalist movements targeting migrants and now with our current recession (undoubtably caused by Brexit, we see the same thing). The rhetoric used by this new movement is almost word for word identical with the far right movement from the past, and just to be cliche, just listen to how the Nazi's spoke in the 30s. It's up to the people of this movement to prove to me how exactly they aren't far right and I'm not interested to hear their migration concerns until they do so.

I live in the US. My friend was born in the UK but grew up here and he's super prideful in being British. In late 2023, he started getting into British politics (and politics in general). Both of us were sorta military nerds, so I think that's how it started. When he saw the issues of his country from the BNP's perspective, he started to change. He used to be pro-europe and pro-ukraine and stuff, but now he's pro-russian, anti-american, anti-muslim, pro-colonialism. Bro fell so far down the pipeline😭

My experience this month: Minding my own business, going to get a Greggs (as you do). Walked past 3 young muslim men in dress robes but one of them stopped in front of me with a proper mean look on his face (also slightly inbreed). They tried intimidating me but i just laughed and kept walking, was uncalled for. Now i think about it, probably should have been more wary of potential danger. Other experience: Saw 2 older muslim men, again in dress robes in their mid to late 50's who were walking with a white girl maybe 15-16 years old who was clearly under the influence of drugs or alcohol in the middle of the day. I'm not condemning a race or religion based on that because I've had far more positive than negative. Just worth knowing that it isn't all BS, those experiences happened.

So, I live in Southport, not two minutes from where the attack happened. I know a couple of the parents who were at the dance class with their daughters. My family went to the vigil held down on Lord Street, and when the vigil was coming to an end, we could hear the rioters starting to kick up (we didn't actually know at the time because it was just a lot of distant noise). We could hear it at our home and see the smoke too, and my kid was terrified.
And when they left, it was our community that had to clean up their mess, which I'm honestly still so proud of how our community (without any hesitation) came out to do so.
The rioters didn't leave Southport having proved a point to those of us who live here, or having passed on their message. All they left us with was more devastation, and that's all they'll ever do.
Even the right condemns the violence and yet we all understand their anger

My town has felt so much stronger as a community since these riots. There's a huge Muslim population in my area and during the riots there was obviously a lot of fear. The mosque next to my work had security put on their doors because of this, as even neighbouring towns were having problems with riots, but fortunately they never needed to put a days work in haha. I was pretty hyper-aware of how I acted during this time, as a bald person who could quite easily be seen as a racist stereotype so would always try to be extra polite and nice to any Asian people, and actually ended up learning a decent amount of Arabic greetings and farewells, as well as becoming matey with the security at the mosque (two Muslim gents).
I've never been prouder of my town anyways for not having any issues during this time, especially as it's a pretty overlooked and run down town in Greater Manchester.
I personally saw Sikhs guard the mosques as well. At least the silver lining is that it brought the community together

I am a British Pakistani Muslim man, and all I remember about that time was the wide-spread fear. Everyday was a new message about a new place to avoid because of riots. The place I worked at during that time didn't let us work from home so everyday going into Leeds on the public transport was anxiety ridden to say the least. I also found out how prejudice my co-workers were and how little empathy they had for the people affected by the riots, telling me to get in the gym and get on the treadmill so I can run faster when the rioters come after me, or the whole its working class scum of society, the uneducated, the stupid, their the only ones rioting and being racist no-one else. They just laughed at the whole situation and I didn't feel confident reporting to HR because they are shit at that company and also it was the majority of the office against me so they probably would have grouped together to say they were just joking. I also had a job interview during the riots for the job I'm working at currently, and I got a call the morning of the interview telling me they will send me an email with a team interview to move the in person interview into an online interview, because they were scared for my safety. It was an insane time, the thing that will always anger me and other people in marginalized groups is that everything you mentioned in the video we were aware of and were following in real time because we were affected by this stuff in real time.

i live near southport, been to school there, worked there, all but from there. when the attack happened i was on holiday. i couldn't believe the news i was reading. when the riots started, none of it felt real. my heart ached for the families, and the community pulling together cleaning up after something so traumatic. by the time i came home the riots were over and the streets were back to how they were. all that remained were the pink ribbons tied to fences on quiet roads. i wish i could've been there to offer the community my support. it's such a shame that the town's name will now be inseparable from all of this.

To me it started with one key thing. This notion of "illegal" migrants. It was never pushed back on. People arriving on boats, or via any other method into the UK aren't breaking the law UNLESS they don't submit themselves and ask for / apply for asylum. All the people in hotels and such aren't here illegally, merely waiting to be processed. Waiting because various governments broke that system on purpose, and now they're just stacking up. If you arrive here on a boat, and just disappear into the night then you're illegal. But they aren't doing that. Process their applications, accept or reject and deport was always the system. It was purposefully torn down.

It’s comforting, as an American, to know these people exist outside of the US.
If an undocumented migrant comes to Massachusetts they will have a very hard time finding gainful employment due to our particular economy so they aren't really at risk of driving down salaries in tech and life sciences. Although we do have right to shelter laws, so an influx of undocumented folks puts strain our very expensive and very limited emergency shelter stock which is already under massive strain due to legal inter state migration. When an influx of them go to a state with an agricultural or manufacturing economy without our welfare their undocumented status makes them easy to exploit and this does drive down wages for legitimate workers in those fields. The unique laws and economic conditions of the area in which they end up will dictate which symptoms of the issue manifest most ferociously we are talking about and estimated 12 million undocumented people in the US not a few hunded or a few thousand. It can be that they take the jobs in one area and deplete the finite welfare resources in another. It's unfortunate that decades of mouth shitting during election races has made people glaze over very real issues that the United States in particular has with migration. Regardless of what political loyalty badge you wear there is a very real human cost and it is always the low income people that will shoulder the burden.

In France, we have a far-right politician who invented the word "Franticide" meaning the strategic elimination of the white french. Whenever a foreigner commited a crime on a white french person, he'd say that the french person was only targeted because he was french. It didn't last very long though as a white french man killed someone during this period and he couldn't defend his stance. But it was such a dangerous rhetoric to come up with, he created anger by saying foreigners are strategically eliminating the french whites. He didn't care when foreigners commited crimes against other foreigners or non white frenchs, instead of the victim being random and happening to be white as we are in France, it became the criminal commited a crime to strategicallty eliminate the white french.

I lived as a kid in a majority Asian area, I went to a school which was 75% BAME and so the majority of my school play dates were at Muslim or Sikh kids houses on very Muslim or Sikh streets. Never felt unwanted or like I couldn't be there.
I live in Leicester now which has a huge Asian population and I work in engineering where id say 70% of my colleagues are Indian/Pakistani/Bangladeshi, they celebrate Christmas with us, we celebrate Eid or Holi with them, we have non booze nights out so the Muslim lads can come too, we have veggie meals so dietary restrictions aren't an issue.. and I go round their houses with my husband to play murder mystery games or D&D, in their very Asian neighbourhoods and never do we get shit or feel uncomfortable.
I think if you're just assuming you're not welcome somewhere, you won't be because you're bringing the face of someone who doesn't like what you see. Jews historically live in neighborhoods, so did the Irish, my son's best friend is Nigerian and he and his family are mostly Nigerian and stay within the Nigerian groups but we're there too, getting to know them, making friends, going on holidays with them, sharing recipes.
Growing up around different religions and cultures and food and music is a blessing, if you don't look at it as though you're not invited. Just go, meet people, speak to people, be friendly. Stop looking at it like you're aren't allowed because why wouldn't you be? You can go into a mosques or a gurdwara at any time and people are lovely, same as any religious place really, even as an atheist. Just include yourself, don't act as though you are segregated because brown people live together when suburbs are predominantly white people living together. Is that segregation? No, people just live near who they know in their economic brackets.
That's my advice anyway, get involved. Go to a Diwali festival or Eid, people love others to be interested in their culture, be interested in theirs and they'll show it back to you. I've had 34 years of doing it from birth to now and ive never had a bad experience.

The whole thing is a mess of disinformation. Can anyone point to a reputable study on crime rates by immigrants in the UK? Apparently, in Malmo and in Germany, studies have been done showing significantly higher rates of crime by immigrants and first generations. Not sure the UK publishes such stats, which leaves a void for conspiracy theorists.
The problem I see with the defence of "Yes, but we have our own home grown criminals" is that immigrant crime is additional. Even if only10% of people in prisons are immigrants ( i believe that percent is in the right ball park, accurate stats can be hard to find), that is thousands of crimes that wouldn't have been committed if we had limited immigration. If only 0.1% of Muslims is a potential extremist terrorist, that's 4,000 if them and it only takes 1. Again, we have potential far right terrorists too, but the Islamist terrorists are *additional* to those. Shouldn't we be solving problems rather than increasing them?
There are economic reports on the positive benefits of immigration that are often quoted by liberals, but they are as shoddy as the grooming gang study you mention. Others suggest increase ib house price and reduction in wages. Trying to gain objective info is difficult, articles and studies are all over the place. I think both sides are biased. Even as a lefty myself, I believe that mass immigration of the numbers in recent years exists primarily to supply cheap workers. Keep wages down, increase property prices. It benefits the wealthy, who, of course, can afford to live in areas far from the potential problems.
Not to mention most of the reports are not even recorded and shown as all trials on gromming gangs are hidden in closed court and no media reporting and it is happening in every city even in my small city were not many Muslims there was gromming gangs that got tiny coverage at the start of arrests but when it came time for court nothing as reporting restrictions. I genuinely don't understand the refusal to admit that mass immigration has caused problems and is now majority unpopular in most of the Western world. Can you please explain to me why you view immigration as ontologically good?

If you're genuinely curious then feel free to read on. This is simply just my personal view of this, not meant to argue.
Immigration is ironically a British value. It stands as a virtue of liberty that people from oppressive regimes can come to a first world nation and make a life for themselves. We take this for granted because we were born in this country. The most we can claim is being some abstract notion of "working class" but even then, we live like kings compared to most of the world, if people claim "boo hoo" their culture is inferior or that's their problem, then this is simply ignorance.
Immigration has been executed horribly in this country because no one can agree on a proper solid system to implement it and also out of laziness because it hasn't been on politicians agender, as far as they're concerned, it's keeping the economy stable. We left the EU and so our economy, as predicted, took a missive dip, therefore migrants were used to fill the void of our failing economy.
The notion that they bring gangs of crime is true to a level but this problem was here before, Glasgow, Liverpool and many other places in the deprived areas of the country which are mostly white, have similar levels of crime as with Birmingham or London but the latter areas are ideal locations to use for anti migrant propaganda. The former places like Glasgow or Liverpool don't tend to showcase the superior image of "British culture" so aren't used as statistical proof of a failed multiculturalism. We could potentially reduce this problem with building proper infostructure around the communities that lack investment.
Most nonces in this country are white, they're lonely sick losers, so it would seem white nonces want "our daughters" as much as anyone else. There are indeed Muslim rape gangs which no one likes, but why would we target them as mascots of Islam when the majority of Muslims in this country have stronger family values than we do? most of them are simply just married with kids.
We should be able to discuss Immigration sensibly but unfortunately the nationalists have long claimed this conversation and now ordinary people are starting to buy into their twisted narrative.
I have always been skeptical of immigration talks in this country because it's always the case that every time there's economic problems, immigrants are to blame. The great depression saw the rise in anti jew rhetoric, the 1970s economic crash caused a rise in nationalist movements targeting migrants and now with our current recession (undoubtably caused by Brexit, we see the same thing).
The rhetoric used by this new movement is almost word for word identical with the far right movement from the past, and just to be cliche, just listen to how the Nazi's spoke in the 30s. It's up to the people of this movement to prove to me how exactly they aren't far right and I'm not interested to hear their migration concerns until they do so.

That paper only looked at data at a time when immigration was low and had a lot of data missing. It was incomplete and out of date but the Home Office are responsible for mass immigration and are dogmatically support it. The Quilliam paper split the two different types of abuse which was why it had different results to the govt narrative.

So I'm a bit worried that we skip over the fact that the police where/are to scared to listen to any little white girl who was passed around pakistani grooming gangs being raped. 1. Islam allows that sort of crime against non-muslim women, in fact prophet Muhammad encouraged it and did it himself, people have heard about this and therefore believe all muslims are like that, when most are no different to anyone else, and aren't even aware their religion allows such a thing, let alone ever want to do it
2.Incidents in the past should have been resolved but weren't, making some people more aware of the issue and upset over it

I live in the US. My friend was born in the UK but grew up here and he's super prideful in being British. In late 2023, he started getting into British politics (and politics in general). Both of us were sorta military nerds, so I think that's how it started. When he saw the issues of his country from the BNP's perspective, he started to change. He used to be pro-europe and pro-ukraine and stuff, but now he's pro-russian, anti-american, anti-muslim, pro-colonialism. Bro fell so far down the pipeline😭

My experience this month: Minding my own business, going to get a Greggs (as you do). Walked past 3 young muslim men in dress robes but one of them stopped in front of me with a proper mean look on his face (also slightly inbreed). They tried intimidating me but i just laughed and kept walking, was uncalled for. Now i think about it, probably should have been more wary of potential danger.
Other experience: Saw 2 older muslim men, again in dress robes in their mid to late 50's who were walking with a white girl maybe 15-16 years old who was clearly under the influence of drugs or alcohol in the middle of the day.
I'm not condemning a race or religion based on that because I've had far more positive than negative. Just worth knowing that it isn't all BS, those experiences happened.
