      Is there is a difference when the civic has a manual transmission ?

  • @MrSubhuman138

    Thanks to your step by step videos, I changed passenger and driver side CV axles and struts in under 2 1/2 hours. Didn’t have a lift, so jacking the car up from the front jack point and using jack stands on both sides set me back. One thing I came across everybody, is when the trans fluid was leaking out the passenger side, I noticed it dripping from what looked to be the center of my transmission case! Thought maybe I cracked it while prying it out. But the oil was leaking down into a cover and dripping out from the bottom. I went in to panic mode, then realized what was going on. Easy do it yourself, best of luck to everybody!

    Ok, I just did this job on my '06 Civic Si. This step by step was spot on! I had a little extra effort with the prying of the knuckle because i had it on jackstands in my driveway...as high as i could get it. Didn't leave much clearance for the prybar action. Not impossible, but a lift like you show would be ideal.
    Also, Si torque values are a little different, but this is the best video of this job i found.

    I just finished doing my car thank you soo much I cant believe it was so easy, I barely know the basics of a car like how to do regular maintenance and that’s about it and I was able to replace both left and right CV axles in just under an hour. This guys not a mechanic he’s a car doctor that’s great at breaking down and explaining the whole process from beginning to end.

    This video ultimately helped me, but I had to figure out how to disengage the axel, which wasn't nearly as straight forward as implied. Both the new axel, and the one I removed, had a loose ring that seems to flop around a bit. From what I gather, mine was seated low so it was catching and not allowing the axel to release. A good deal of rotating, wiggling, and a bit of thumping with my dead blow and a short section of 2x4 eventually allowed it to disengage, and when it did finally go it was just like all the videos that cut that part out. I wish they'd have shown that bit. Took well over an hour of me to get to that stage of what looked almost instantaneous in this (and other) videos.

    No fluid loss? on the other side did it pour??? My last CV shaft R&R was on a 1982 Datsun 310 GX, when the shaft came out so did the tranny fluid... Honda's different??

    • @kevins.3573
      @kevins.3573 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honda's do drain a little fluid, but, it really depends on how the vehicle is supported. Replacing a CV axle on my Honda with only the front of the car jacked up into the air, it will leak. Lifting the entire vehicle and keeping it level, it won't leak out much, if any.

    I noticed on your website that you also have a 4-piece set that includes hub assemblies. If I'm replacing both CV axles, is there a way to tell if I need the assemblies as well or just replace the axles?

    • @123andme
      @123andme 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you don't hear any grinding or grittiness in your bearings when you spin hub then you are ok. If you need new bearings then just buy what they call a loaded knuckle online. The efforts to change and press bearings and hubs are not worth your labor time. They can be had at a reasonable price. Cost you more for a bearing press, bearings and new hubs.

      Use a 5lb slide hammer attached to a hub puller on your lug nuts. Spray wd 40 in hub joints let it soak and start hammering out. Slide 5 hits at a time. When you add new axle put a little grease on splines before installing.

    Those shaft lengths are definitely not the same (and need to be)...I will assume you may have not been showing a direct fit replacement. Please let me know if the inner joint has so much axial play that the side by side difference seen when they are on the bench is nothing to worry about. Thank you.

      I'm in a similar situation with my 07 Civic and you should be checking for a worn bearing more than anything in my opinion. A worn bearing can fail catastrophically...a worn CV joint will just click on corners and can survive a LOT of slow failing before it's very obvious.... please for your safety, check bearing play in wheel and then tie rod etc.
