I'm confused, where did MJ come into pretending to have got a bear skin? Or do I need to have seen the previous half hour? I would've made the reference to the Jokerblogs web series.
I can add context. IIRC, there was a joke about Michael hiring lookalikes to fill in for him to relieve some of the workload. Shortly after they would reveal that they have an exclusive interview with real MJ. 'Michael' would then walk on and speak in an Essex accent
I've worked in local broadcasting and when there's a hardware problem like a transmitter going down and you need to bring the backup online, you'd be amazed at how quickly the second hand sweeps around the clock face. OTOH, when you get something like a power failure at the studio and there's nothing to do besides calling the boss and answering the 100 phone calls with people asking "Did you know you're off the air?" five minutes seems like an hour.
Yeah I’m an EVS Operator in broadcast and can be transmitter or if it’s from an OB Truck it’s usually the Matrix computer crashing or generator failure.

Once when I was a kid, the credits on the broadcast I was watching started playing in fast motion. They would usually mute the video and split screen it with some ads or bumpers, but one time they didn't mute it... Scared the hell out of me, it did.

14:15 BBC North West Tonight - This is a local news program for the North West of England. But the Local to National switch over failed for some reason. The One Show is a live show shown nationally. The timing seems right for end of NWT to the start of The One Show.
I witnessed one of these. In 2022 when I was watching I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! STV glitched and it wouldn't air for a bit. After about 10 mins, it came back on. Didn't even say like We're sorry for the fault, here's some music. It just left us with the STV logo.
odd bit of curiosity: i am curious to see how Engis and the Techies at the broadcast locations manage to deal with situations like this along with workarounds. credit given where it's due i'm sure there are procedures in place to rectify these errors as contingencies but the pressure must be immense.
As someone who's fixed (and caused) a few. There's not really any procedures to fix such issues - it's just a case of just trying to work out what the problem is and how to fix it/work round it. There can't really be any procedures for the fix as every breakdown is different - however those in channel playout who have to cover fault with slides, announcements and standby programmes will have some, but again it's always different
In the States (Where I live), TV channels used to throw up a "Technical Difficulties" bumper and not much else. If there was severe weather, you were likely to see the local meteorologist at the weather desk until they decided to go back to regular programming. These days, we don't get the "Technical difficulties" bumpers. Just a channel bumper that's used when there's no ad space.
Breakdowns used to get on my nevers so I had to find something else to do to fill up my time until the programme came back on however if the news failed to make it to air the I read a newspaper as a backup
And it was that moment in 2008, when all the grandmothers across the UK quivered in fear from the loss of bingo night live... Oh, never mind, they're having a fucking party from bingo night being back up
Broadcasting something in the wrong aspect ratio, even with the reliance on plus 1 channels and overnight service with little or no staff (or relying on pre-recorded announcements) is a problem faced more and more these days; I'd think. Replacing or fixing it on the plus 1's (or filling in the 'lost' time, be that adverts or programming) could have solved some of these issues. The biggest problem and surely the most embarrassing fault included here had to be the BBC News 2017 with Huw being totally unaware of the situation for so long like that! Just as well he wasn't saying or doing anything unprofessional isn't it? LOL.
Also do you notice he writes something on the paper, well there's a camera above his head, out of sight so he would be communicating with the gallery with his writing
