Such a help to break down reel rhythm like this, I tend to always end up with it back to front! I’ll continue to practice like this - thanks so much.

Awesome! Lots of ways to bow reels, but I always think this is such a useful pattern for so many reels.

Great video. You should maybe do a follow up on how to do the percussive bow stutter or bounce, i guess some call it the cut. That has been driving me nuts trying to nail it down..a lot of aspiring Celtic and cape Breton players consider that the holy grail.....

Hmmm.. in Irish music, a cut is a grace note that cuts two notes in half, imitating the way the pipes break up two of the same note instead of using the bow. In Scottish music the cut is a bowed triplet, also called a burl. Because they can't possibly call them the same things! I've got plans for more videos though!

Great video..... I sooOOOoOOOo wish you would have showed or played this in context to a song (any reel), like Cooley's or something. Thank You

Great suggestion, I will try to do a part 2 for you all incorporating it into a few tunes. Thanks!

Tiny suggestion: play a tune like the Silver Spear once through to show why a fiddler should work on this! (Also for those of us who spend way too much time looking at TH-cam videos and just want to hear a good fiddler play!).

Silver Spear is a great tune to show this technique off.

Useful video. Would be better if sound was louder. Thanks.
