December 2024 Power Tune: "the Holly Bush" by Finbarr Dwyer
We improved the atmosphere a bit. A chalkboard. Some plants. Yay! That's better. Big thanks to Noah at Powers Music for helping me get this month's video up as well.
Here's a little seasonal tune by a Dwyer, the brothers who wrote many great tunes.

October 2024 "PowerTune:" Sean Buí
มุมมอง 1582 หลายเดือนก่อน
Apologies for the delay in posting October's tune - my computer suddenly decided to stop recording audio, and I'm a musician and tech issues just throw such wrenches in my game! I'm hopeful that downloading new software is going to fix it, BUT in the meantime, big thanks to Noah at Powers Music for helping me just get a darn video or two UP on the internets for you all. The learning is the goal...

The great fiddler, piano player and composer Charlie Lennon passed away in June of this year, leaving behind a rich legacy of his fantastic recordings and compositions. The A major jig "The Handsome Young Maidens" is one of his most well-known tunes, and is also one of the easier ones to play (they aren't all easy!) Here’s the next “Power Tune” for the Powers Music School Learners’ Irish Music Session for May 16, 2024: The Spotted Dog by John McEvoy. I was alerted to this tune by a Fiddle Hell attendee named Kelsey, who hails from Austin, TX. She mentioned this tune The Spotted Dog and when I looked it up, I was instantly smitten! It’s cheerful, not too hard to play and a really nice melody: perfect for a ...
April 2024 "Power Tune:" the "Mountain Road" by Michael Gorman
มุมมอง 6279 หลายเดือนก่อน
It turned out at last month's session that most people didn't know the reel "Mountain Road." Well, this must be remedied and cannot be allowed to stand, because it's just a great tune. Apparently there's also a third part, which I might need to look into; but two parts is most commonly played, and usually it's AB single reel format. As you may be coming to understand, I'm pretty opinionated and...

มุมมอง 99911 หลายเดือนก่อน
Here's the next Powers "Power Tune" for the Powers Music School Learners' Irish Music Session on January 18, 2024: the lovely jig "The Bush on the Hill." It's got a great start on the G string for a throaty sound on the fiddle, but it's a great tune on the flute, and everything else as well. I'm also delighted to present this as the Irish Tune of the Week for January 16 on Instagram! To follow ...

NOV 2023 "POWER TUNE" : THE SNOWY PATH SLIP JIG
มุมมอง 1Kปีที่แล้ว
Hello!!! We moved the monthly learners Irish Music session at Powers Music School to THURSDAY nights this fall 2023, as we felt Fridays weren't cutting it for folks. And with the change, I thought "Tune of the Month" was a bit overdone out there, so I am now calling it this month's "POWER TUNE!" - feel the power!!! A bit ridiculous, but we need a bit more of that in our lives, don't we? To join...

An excellent tune and it's very nicely played!

Nicely played and great camera angle. Thank you.
Love your Irish videos. Very well thought out, presented and played. Helps the rest of us with learning tunes for sessions. And you have one of the best bowing wrists. Keep em coming!

Great video..... I sooOOOoOOOo wish you would have showed or played this in context to a song (any reel), like Cooley's or something. Thank You
Great suggestion, I will try to do a part 2 for you all incorporating it into a few tunes. Thanks!
What key is this in to play on Harmonica. Thanks so much. 💚

A fine job with a fine reel!
"Add Title Text" here randomly appearing in the middle, apologies, but I just turned 50 so I'm embracing the imperfections. Happy learning!
Pity your fingering is just out of shot.
Great. Made it easy for me to practice. Slow first and then fast. I also used the slowdown button which helped further. A true Irish tune.
Thank you kindly, its as lovely as you are who is playing it.❤

Thanks for sharing this very pleasant tune I personnally did not know and finally not so difficult to learn with a few minutes of training. Greetings from Brittany !
That's a marvelous tune and it's beautifully played!
Bravo ! One of my sisters is teaching herself to play. Will mention your channel.
I agree it's a fabulous jig, which I've heard a long time, but never learned. Now thanks to you and your clear and simple approach, I can play the tune. Wish I lived closer to your Power Session! And yes, great flute tune too! Happy Saint Brigid's Day!
A lovely tune and beautifully played!
I never tire of it!

You're welcome! It's a classic and you can't go wrong learning it, or just getting more comfortable with it.
Wow, thank you for this video!!
Love Vincent Broderick tunes too. Love your style!
Hi Ellery! Not sure you remember me, but Golo and I played a few sessions with you years ago in Vermont. I just stumbled upon your site here and just wanted to say thanks. Nice to have the tune played slowly and then quicker. Sounds great! Maybe we'll run into you again one day. Happy Holidays and Happy New Year 2024 very soon! I think I subscribed, not sure. Will definitely look for more of your tunes! Sounds great! Golo says hello too!
Of course I remember!! Great to hear from you. Always love to play tunes with old Vermont friends....
Very nice playing and sound, congratulations from France 💙

Grüezi I've met you yesterday on TH-cam for the first time. I like the way you teach tunes. Very motivating. I wanted to know more about you and found the following remark: "Ellery encourages technical excellence while also teaching perseverance and confidence. Ellery makes sure her students build the ability to feel okay with mistakes, laugh, and be compassionate towards themselves." I am a retired schoolteacher from Switzerland and I always tried to make my students feel likewise. So I'm looking forward to playing along with you via TH-cam.
Beautiful tune and playing. Thank you.
Very nice! Well played. I like pairing this one with Miss Monaghan's and the Silver Spear as a set.
Great set, can never go wrong with any of those tunes!
It's funny to play it in À major! 😊
and yes, it's not you....the piano teacher next door started ripping through some warm up scales in the second half of the faster version. In case you're wondering what that sound is!
