I like that Team Galactic is a corruption of the Galaxy Team thing. Like, how overtime, the original purpose of Team Galaxy has lost its meaning and became the corrupted Team Galactic since their logo is quite similar to one another.
Not related to the video directly: but I love that they took Basculin, a Pokémon they LITERALLY ADMITTED was Dex filler, and gave it a badass evolution to be one of the faces of their new game.
Agreed, i can't believe i actually want a basculin on my team now.... which since it's water ghost would be a little doubled up with my Rowlet that I'll probably choose (Oshawatt is great and all, I usually pick the water type every gen, but it's single typing is disappointing. At least make it water steel or something if it's supposed to be a samurai).
I always loved Basculin, I just hope that there is a Blue-Stripe form for this evolution, because this clearly only has Red-Stripe characteristics with the spiky fins, huge eyes, and of course, the red. I personally prefer and like Blue-Stripe more, it looks so sleek, cool(in an elegant and calm way), and collected. It would only take a small snip at your finger after giving a warning whilst Red-Stripe would take your whole hand with no hesitation.
I just feel that having more Pokemon introduced mid-generation is a fine trade off for not having everyone in one game. Hoping we get to see the special evolutions for the starters soon.
@Ik It was obnoxious and insulting that they lied to us for SWSH. Now that it's a new game, and the development of this game included no such lie, I don't think it should be held accountable to that lie -- even if making good on the promises they failed to uphold last time would make it substantially better. As long as the game is good, and is better as a game than what SWSH "offered," I'll be content. Though it does need to actually jump that hurdle.
@@KamisatoElias Item from HeartGold and SoulSilver that's used to call on Rayquaza. For some reason, it wasn't reused for OrAs. I theorize it might be a Mikado organ (the part that allows Rayquaza to Mega Evolve, according to one of the guys in Steven's company).
@@oodogla Yeah, it was an artificial orb made by the Pokemon Association in the manga iirc. Emerald's emerald was a shard of it. Manga usually does a good job at world building.
Mega Rayquaza is the King of Heaven, like how Zygarde is the King of Earth, making them just under Arceus in terms of importance, and they both have jade motifs.

As an addition, I actually thought Hisui was meaning 火水 (Hi-Sui) mainly since Hokkaido is seen as a land of Mountain and Sea (the Ainu having significant connections spiritually with both), since 火山 (ka-zan, with ka being another reading of hi) meaning volcano and the sui meaning water. Hokkaido (北海道) itself means the Northern Sea Route/Path (roughly) after all, so I wouldn't be surprised if Hi is mentioning the central feature of Hisui, Mt. Coronet, and Sui is referencing its interconnection with the ocean, as the land both in reality and in Pokemon is an island. Sorry for going on for so long, just thought this idea would work nicely with your thought that Sui meant Water in this case. I am fairly familiar with this region, so I couldn't help myself.
I'm moderately excited. I expect my expectations to be met given the information presented and track record of the company. And moves made from the last game. So nothing should be overly surprising or disappointing. Nor is my perspective over hyped, I'd like to think. This title should better recived than the last game since that bandaid has been ripped off.

If anyone was hesitant on Legends Arceus before, they should be all in now with the new info. The gameplay looks fun, the new forms/evos are amazing (they made Basculin cool and Braviary even cooler while making Stantler stronger and cooler.) and the world is just so dang beautiful
Yeah, not at all chief. Still not even slightly sold. The new mons are dope as hell but the game still looks boring. What's there to do other than catch/battle pokemon? Our only goals currently are the research tasks and compete the dex. So we got an open world and repetitive goal, not a good combo atm. And if there really is no trainer battles...? What's the point in building a dedicated team if all the battles are just against wild mons? Sorry, chief, but the info still shows me something boring and repetitive. Maybe later info will prove me wrong. Maybe not. As it stands, I'm only hyped for the remakes. The new mons I can just get from other sources eventually, I ain't paying 60 just for em. Not even remotely interested in Legends atm.

@@ronnellpugh7240 yeah I disagree entirely. It's the building of a new team, the challenging of tough trainers, that keeps me coming back. That's the thrill that gives me enjoyment from the mainline games, even if some entries are... clearly flawed. And it's that very omission that leaves me with such disinterest. Yes the games are relatively similar, but if that fact would be to push me away... then I wouldn't have gone and 100%ed as many 3d Mario's or mario parties as I could, games rather similar in style with differences each time. Catching pokemon... is something I couldn't care less about. It brings no thrill, no stragety ultimately. Unless I'm looking for something, catching is a waste of my time. If Legends truly offers little other than an extreme focus on catching and dex...it will pique my interest. I truly hope my expectations are proved wrong by the final release. I find it interesting how the region had more land in the past. Like, I know erosion is a thing, and global change and whatever but some changes seem so drastic that it makes me think the process of people settling down in Sinnoh had something to do with it.

Jade being important makes a lot of sense when you tie it in with BirdKeeperToby's theory on why red eyes are a thing in the game. Arceus' true eye colour is JADE, but in the trailers? It glows red.

“Jade: the Gem Supreme. The protector of all Generations…” Hmm 🤔, does that include previous and future Generations? I hope that we get Journey Versions of the other regions.
This is only the beginning. There are some many different regions and time periods they can visit now. Eventually they would have too many regions, but now they are revisiting regions in different time periods so they can show original forms of different pokemon and more fossil pokemon that aren't fossils yet in certain time periods. The possibilities nare endless now. This is one small step for man and one giant leap for Pokemon.
One meaning you overlooked, that I think is worth mentioning: "Hi" can also mean "fire", combining with "Sui" meaning "water", and those two elements can be used to represent diamonds and pearls: diamonds are created when coal experience high amounts of pressure and heat, hence "fire", and pearls are found in oysters which in turn are found in water, hence "water"

Interesting theory! Will be curious to see if it proves true! The magatama thing is interesting too for a couple reasons: one of Japan's Imperial Treasures is a magatama (thought in mythology to be a jewel hung outside the cave Amaterasu hid herself in in order to lure her out). Also the spiritual connection makes me think of the Phoenix Wright series where the Fey girls (Phoenix's boss Mia and her sisters Maya and Pearl) are seen wearing them, and they all have channeling abilities. Actually the Imperial Treasure thing makes me wonder...is Bronzor in this game? Because another of the Imperial Treasures is a mirror, and Bronzor's design is said to be inspired by the bronze mirrors of ancient times. Also Bronzor is a Sinnoh Pokémon.
I love it too. Much of it comes from Japanese history, namely the Sengoku Jidai (Warring States) period, with almost all warlords being named after real-life Japanese daimyo (lords). As a game, it's pretty cool. The main story is probably the least fun story of all of them, but the other stories are fun. I haven't done all of them, though.
just realized, for the anime one of Four things are probably going to happen, either 1. they will have another time travel movie set in sinnoh. 2. they will have a single time travel episode. 3. they will have a miniseries. or 4. They will actually have a Season or several episodes where Ash is stuck in the past. I hope they actually do have a season where ash is in the past because that could be extremely interesting and creative.

Great video! To go further on the jade theory: you mentioned that jade would be worn around people's necks as a symbolism of god. Arceus has little gem like things on it's ring surrounding the body. Those could be jade and then the different forms of Arceus are different types of the jade too.

Connections to Sun God Amaterasu (天照 in kanji) also include the Japanese names of the protagonists: Teru(テル) for male and Shou(ショウ) for female. Both can be written as 照 meaning to shine or illuminate, making the connection to Lucas/Dawn and "brilliant, shining"

I love how Sinnoh introduced awesome new evolutions for old Pokémon with great designs back then, and its doing the same for Basculin and Stantler. Here’s hoping theres more like Furret and Absol. Really hyped for Wyrdeer, hope he has around 530 base stat points.
I'm very interested to see how the new Pokemon are going to be integrated into future games. Normally "new" Pokemon that are introduced in games outside of the main series only show up in the spinoff titles, like Shadow Mewtwo, Shadow Lugia, and Primal Dialga. Or is Legends: Arceus being considered a main series title?
Also those pokemon are different forms of already existing pokemon, while wrydeer and basculegion are new pokemon, also hisuian forms are regional forms anyways

Eh? It's Japanese, a syllabic language, so if anything, the one in the video is right: "hee-soo-wee", directly corresponding to "ひ す い". Sure, "u" sounds usually becomes more subtle and "implied" at times, like with the case of "sasuke" also bring pronounced as "saas-keh" alongside "saa-soo-keh", but as far as I know, the one more "correct" is the pronounciation actually going with how it's written. It can be said both ways most likely, but trying to correct like so teeters on being wrong as, again, the one more "correct" would indeed be "hee-soo-wee"

loved how you brought up multiple reasons for the name. I knew sinnoh was based on hokkaido and have a mild understanding of its history. the connection to jade and sui meaning water and the connection of that to Palkia being part water. The names meaning goes way deeper then i could have imagined and its fascinating. I just love how fitting it is that they chose the 4th gen to try a older time as the setting.
Man, I feel like nobody talks about Pokemon Conquest. It has a great storyline, music, and characters, especially for a spinoff, and I wish it would get more love. Can’t wait to see your video on it! Love the content :)
The weather trio and creation trio was all one could think about as both are Pokémon said to bring forth the beginning and end. Also the fact the jade orb once belong to a green creature called Rayquaza who brings peace during a time of chaos. The creation trio maintains the order within the universe although their abilities are vague as time and space are intangible concepts.
Arceus also is themed mainly with green, not just with gold/yellow and white (and red and grey to an extent lol) - including its Jewel of Life in the anime-exclusive movie themed after Arceus.
Good on Lockstin for acknowledging the problematic stuff from the time period the game is based on! also I love how deep he went into the name, quite fun to watch!
Fun fact Commander Kamado is officially confirmed to be an ancestor of Professor Rowan, with other characters hinted at being ancestors of characters from past games or at lest those that appeared in Diamond and Pearl
5:18 that probably explains why in the Pokémon arceus movie in the anime the Orb of life (the item that goat god made from it’s own plates) is a jade color.
The beautiful thing about Legends Arceus is that it’s the first main line spin off just like how Diamond and Pearl were the first jumps into 3D (albeit just trees). The start of a new generation of Pokémon essentially. It all starts with Sinnoh, just like arceus. Damn that’s cool.
I am SURE that the starters arengoing to have new final evolved forms because in the background when the presenter spoke we can see plushes of the Sinnoh starters and their final forms, but we only see Cyndaquil, Rowlet and Oshawott, not their evolutions
Problem is they are brought in from other evolutions, they don't live in the wild in the region. So it makes no sense for them to get new evolutions, because the professor brought them with him from other regions.

If anyone was hesitant on Legends Arceus before, they should be all in now with the new info. The gameplay looks fun, the new forms/evos are amazing (they made Basculin cool and Braviary even cooler while making Stantler stronger and cooler.) and the world is just so dang beautiful

The new mons are dope as hell but the game still looks boring. What's there to do other than catch/battle pokemon? Our only goals currently are the research tasks and compete the dex. So we got an open world and repetitive goal, not a good combo atm. And if there really is no trainer battles...? What's the point in building a dedicated team if all the battles are just against wild mons? Sorry, chief, but the info still shows me something boring and repetitive. Maybe later info will prove me wrong. Maybe not.
As it stands, I'm only hyped for the remakes. The new mons I can just get from other sources eventually, I ain't paying 60 just for em. Not even remotely interested in Legends atm.

Meanwhile Legends Arceus yes you are right in what you said. but the game is pretty much like Pokemon Snap it isn't supposed to be taken serious like you said, I really hate the competitive part in Pokemon, I have spend a LOT of time making teams in the past since Pokemon XY just to use them like 3 times, so yeah if this game is just a relax open world with fun mechanism I'm sold, I want that. As I said, it is a Pokemon Snap but different. Call it Casual if you want.

@@AngelusKnight-r6z I largely disagree. Given Legends still has the mainline mechanics of catching and battling from the main games. It still anchors itself in that mainline style amidst it's drastic diffences.
New Snap... literally couldn't be a more different formula/playstyle. They really can't be put under the same banner. Also iirc Legends isn't even considered a spinoff so...
@@ronnellpugh7240 yeah I disagree entirely. It's the building of a new team, the challenging of tough trainers, that keeps me coming back. That's the thrill that gives me enjoyment from the mainline games, even if some entries are... clearly flawed. And it's that very omission that leaves me with such disinterest. Yes the games are relatively similar, but if that fact would be to push me away... then I wouldn't have gone and 100%ed as many 3d Mario's or mario parties as I could, games rather similar in style with differences each time.
Catching pokemon... is something I couldn't care less about. It brings no thrill, no stragety ultimately. Unless I'm looking for something, catching is a waste of my time. If Legends truly offers little other than an extreme focus on catching and dex...it will pique my interest. I truly hope my expectations are proved wrong by the final release.
I know full well my stance is likely in thr minority, but nothing my waver my stance until the game proves my fears wrong.
I find it interesting how the region had more land in the past. Like, I know erosion is a thing, and global change and whatever but some changes seem so drastic that it makes me think the process of people settling down in Sinnoh had something to do with it.

"Halcyon" can also mean kingfisher, which means one of four things, Japanese and English coincidentally have the same synonym, there is some cultural significance tying kingfishers to the idea of Halcyon that crosses both cultures, the game Devs knew the Greek connection of the world "Halcyon" and it's a purposeful allusion similar to Cyrus, or the translation only ment the bird Halcyon and not the concept of halcyon.

Jade being important makes a lot of sense when you tie it in with BirdKeeperToby's theory on why red eyes are a thing in the game. Arceus' true eye colour is JADE, but in the trailers? It glows red.

This is only the beginning. There are some many different regions and time periods they can visit now. Eventually they would have too many regions, but now they are revisiting regions in different time periods so they can show original forms of different pokemon and more fossil pokemon that aren't fossils yet in certain time periods. The possibilities nare endless now. This is one small step for man and one giant leap for Pokemon.
One meaning you overlooked, that I think is worth mentioning: "Hi" can also mean "fire", combining with "Sui" meaning "water", and those two elements can be used to represent diamonds and pearls: diamonds are created when coal experience high amounts of pressure and heat, hence "fire", and pearls are found in oysters which in turn are found in water, hence "water"

The magatama thing is interesting too for a couple reasons: one of Japan's Imperial Treasures is a magatama (thought in mythology to be a jewel hung outside the cave Amaterasu hid herself in in order to lure her out). Also the spiritual connection makes me think of the Phoenix Wright series where the Fey girls (Phoenix's boss Mia and her sisters Maya and Pearl) are seen wearing them, and they all have channeling abilities.
Actually the Imperial Treasure thing makes me wonder...is Bronzor in this game? Because another of the Imperial Treasures is a mirror, and Bronzor's design is said to be inspired by the bronze mirrors of ancient times. Also Bronzor is a Sinnoh Pokémon.
I freaking LOVE pokemon conquest. I think it's such a cool game, and to see him talking about it fills me with joy
I love it too. Much of it comes from Japanese history, namely the Sengoku Jidai (Warring States) period, with almost all warlords being named after real-life Japanese daimyo (lords).
As a game, it's pretty cool. The main story is probably the least fun story of all of them, but the other stories are fun. I haven't done all of them, though.
just realized, for the anime one of Four things are probably going to happen, either
1. they will have another time travel movie set in sinnoh.
2. they will have a single time travel episode.
3. they will have a miniseries.
or
4. They will actually have a Season or several episodes where Ash is stuck in the past.
I hope they actually do have a season where ash is in the past because that could be extremely interesting and creative.

A little side note: In 5:39, the 'Gong' in 'Tian Gong' does translate to 'Grandfather', but 'Gong' in this case more acurately translates to 'Lord'. It's a homynym as well.

Great video! To go further on the jade theory: you mentioned that jade would be worn around people's necks as a symbolism of god. Arceus has little gem like things on it's ring surrounding the body. Those could be jade and then the different forms of Arceus are different types of the jade too.

Connections to Sun God Amaterasu (天照 in kanji) also include the Japanese names of the protagonists: Teru(テル) for male and Shou(ショウ) for female. Both can be written as 照 meaning to shine or illuminate, making the connection to Lucas/Dawn and "brilliant, shining"
In the mobile version of the official legends arceus page, in the catch section, there is a little part above battle other Pokémon, that is an animatic, and in it there seems to be a hisuian rhyhorn

I love how Sinnoh introduced awesome new evolutions for old Pokémon with great designs back then, and its doing the same for Basculin and Stantler. Here’s hoping theres more like Furret and Absol. Really hyped for Wyrdeer, hope he has around 530 base stat points.
I'm very interested to see how the new Pokemon are going to be integrated into future games. Normally "new" Pokemon that are introduced in games outside of the main series only show up in the spinoff titles, like Shadow Mewtwo, Shadow Lugia, and Primal Dialga. Or is Legends: Arceus being considered a main series title?

It's Japanese, a syllabic language, so if anything, the one in the video is right: "hee-soo-wee", directly corresponding to "ひ す い".
Sure, "u" sounds usually becomes more subtle and "implied" at times, like with the case of "sasuke" also bring pronounced as "saas-keh" alongside "saa-soo-keh", but as far as I know, the one more "correct" is the pronounciation actually going with how it's written.
It can be said both ways most likely, but trying to correct like so teeters on being wrong as, again, the one more "correct" would indeed be "hee-soo-wee"

loved how you brought up multiple reasons for the name. I knew sinnoh was based on hokkaido and have a mild understanding of its history. the connection to jade and sui meaning water and the connection of that to Palkia being part water. The names meaning goes way deeper then i could have imagined and its fascinating. I just love how fitting it is that they chose the 4th gen to try a older time as the setting.
Not just Sinnoh, because it has some pokemon from future Unova. Or, rather, that will exist in future unova, like stantler, basculin, and braviary.
Man, I feel like nobody talks about Pokemon Conquest. It has a great storyline, music, and characters, especially for a spinoff, and I wish it would get more love. Can’t wait to see your video on it! Love the content :)

The weather trio and creation trio was all one could think about as both are Pokémon said to bring forth the beginning and end. Also the fact the jade orb once belong to a green creature called Rayquaza who brings peace during a time of chaos. The creation trio maintains the order within the universe although their abilities are vague as time and space are intangible concepts.
Arceus also is themed mainly with green, not just with gold/yellow and white (and red and grey to an extent lol) - including its Jewel of Life in the anime-exclusive movie themed after Arceus.
Jade is also considered sacred in japan mythology, being able to damage Onis (if I recall correctly).
Good on Lockstin for acknowledging the problematic stuff from the time period the game is based on! also I love how deep he went into the name, quite fun to watch!
Fun fact Commander Kamado is officially confirmed to be an ancestor of Professor Rowan, with other characters hinted at being ancestors of characters from past games or at lest those that appeared in Diamond and Pearl

5:18 that probably explains why in the Pokémon arceus movie in the anime the Orb of life (the item that goat god made from it’s own plates) is a jade color.
The beautiful thing about Legends Arceus is that it’s the first main line spin off just like how Diamond and Pearl were the first jumps into 3D (albeit just trees). The start of a new generation of Pokémon essentially. It all starts with Sinnoh, just like arceus. Damn that’s cool.

I am SURE that the starters arengoing to have new final evolved forms because in the background when the presenter spoke we can see plushes of the Sinnoh starters and their final forms, but we only see Cyndaquil, Rowlet and Oshawott, not their evolutions
Problem is they are brought in from other evolutions, they don't live in the wild in the region. So it makes no sense for them to get new evolutions, because the professor brought them with him from other regions.
That could explain why there’s jade statues in the underground of Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl!
