He was spot on perfect in the film. I don't think there is another personality in show business who could have played the part to a better effect. I think he has the broadest emotional spectrum of any performer outside the very greatest actors in history, plus that element of wackiness that most of those people don't have.
It's just fantastic to have sites like this with great interviews & clips. I watched Jerry since I was a kid in the 50's and have always loved his work. He did a terrific job in "King" as a serious actor. Many haven't seen it but if not, give it a try.
Not quite understanding what Jerry means DeNiro having anonymity. I mean some of Bobby's greatest works had already been done in Godfather 2, Bang The Drum, Deer Hunter, Taxi and Raging Bull not to mention Mean Streets. From what I know and have read DeNiro was a star by 1982 when The King Of Comedy was being made.
@Todd Wooster what he meant was despite all these Great movies he'd done up until that point Deniro could still walk down the street and not be recognised like a celebrity would. He was more the chameleon back then..Now after so many years and movies Deniro is instantly recognisable
I'll never understand why people like you feel compelled to throw your negativity and hate around. You know know full well that Jerry Lewis fans are the ones who wiil watch this. For better or for worse, Jerry has brought a lot of joy and laughter into peoples lives. Can you say the same for yourself. You seem to get kicks by taking the smiles away from peoples faces.Maybe you should spend more time praising things you like instead of trashing things you don't! Then again, haters gotta hate.
