    Your reactions at 6:31 and 7:03 were priceless - pretty much defines my experience with skating over 30: perfectionism and frustration over missed tricks has been replaced by having fun trying what I can and rolling away if possible.
    BTW, I’m also 36 and enjoying my own personal skate renaissance while supporting my wife and 4 kids. Your channel is resonating with me so much that I crawled out from under my rock and commented. I’m enjoying the practical suggestions, the clean content, the honest/detailed reviews, and your positive attitude! Looking forward to the next post...

      Thanks Caleb:) 36 with 4 kids too! we are as rare as spotted zebras these days. I'm glad you have four and not five. I hate losing the who has more kids game!

    Doing wall sits and squats really did help me stop leaning forward during ollies/flip tricks. I had been bending too far chest side and jumping that direction a lot. Edit: We are still getting snow and 0c weather here :(

      Thankfully we have been getting lots of breaks lately. It's been the typical spring weather here. If you don't like the weather, wait twenty minutes and it will change. Yesterday was the first truly warmish day that I skated. I couldn't believe how comfortable it felt to just not feel the cold.

      We had a two week spell in Boston (late dec /early jan) when the high never got above 6F degrees (-15C), and the lows were about -25F (-31C). Once it went back up to about 20F (-6C), I could not *believe* how WARM it felt!

    These super help. I’m 45 and haven’t ridden in 20 years. These exercises and the prior ones are a savior 🤘

    Im glad to have found your channel Ben, you happen to be crushing it! Seriously im old as dirt and still try and skate very often and hard. However, being older than dirt means that I have to implement tons of various exercises and stretches in order to even ollie. It sucks getting old. Your content makes me feel im not the only hard-headed old dude out there pushing wood.

  • @faunaflage

    I've started doing the first set of stretches. Thanks for posting more - they're very helpful for oldsters. Cheers from MTL.

    Awesome stuff once again, Ben, that last video was a hit with my 30+ skate crew out here. Definitely giving these a go but might wait for a rain day to do lunges, 'cause right now I'm pretty much skating every day until my legs fall off :)

    The lunges really help! I need to re-watch for the other tips. Thanks man I’m in less pain after 2-3 20 minute skate sessions a day. Afterwards I go back into an A/C environment(summertime,no cool-down straight back to work). Keep up the great videos you are definitely a thinking man.
    Can you do a vid on how to not have the board behind you when heel or switch heel flipping and same for fakie and especially Billie heels(unless you haven’t already I gotta catch up on all your videos)?

    I'm 26, and my weight is 200 lbs. It was about 155 lbs when I was 20 years old. I got additional weight when i went to gym :) It's really hard to skate now, I don't skate about 3 years.

    • @bendegros

      I exercise at the gym regularly but I don't do heavy weights. I'm also not the kind of person who puts on muscle easily.

      Are you local? It sure has been wet. If you don't have a flexible schedule it's so hard to get a skate in. We are at the mercy of the rains.

      Ben Degros yeah I’m from north van so truly at the rains mercy here lol

    • @bendegros

      Awww maaan!! You have it so much worse than me. I used to do a lot of framing on the north shore and I would be looking out at sunny old Richmond while getting drenched in the British Poperties.

    • @bendegros
      @bendegros  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It was fun but it was one of those spots where there is something wrong with every obstacle. It makes easy tricks difficult.

    would the length of your board have an effect on wheelbase? for example, if you get a board with a 14.25-inch wheelbase and is 31.75 inches long, and you also get a board that is 42.5 inches long and a 14.75-inch wheelbase would it be the same? thanks

    • @bendegros
      @bendegros  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you mean32.5? If so, yes, two decks that have a difference of 0.75inch in lentgh but have the same wheelbase will have a dramatically different feel as long as the nose/tail length are in the same ballpark.

    Hello, I just got back into skateboarding after a year and never really did many tricks, mostly cruised... do you have any tips on commuting to tricks such as the fs 180. I can turn my body and get my front foot on but never land my back foot. Thank you

    • @bendegros
      @bendegros  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's hard to say without seeing a video or seeing it in person. Maybe your hips are lagging behind your shoulders or its just fear. Landing with one foot becomes a comfort zone that is hard to get out of. It requires taking that chance that is make it or slam. Just keep practicing, it will come.

    Great vid Ben! What nikes are they?

    • @bendegros
      @bendegros  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Janoski's. Canvas. Three sessions in and they don't seem too durable.

    • @NJ-qd8jv
      @NJ-qd8jv 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I see, they looked similar to a pair you had in some older vids. What are you finding the best to skate in?

    • @bendegros
      @bendegros  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I really like Nikes and Adidas but I only just started riding them a year ago. I have only had two pairs of nikes and one adidas.

    Go to gym, stay under Smith (choose weight) and do the same thing you do on the stairs.
