    - Christopher Reeve's overall performance, especially as evil Superman. Totally badass.
    - The Smallville scenes. I thought Annette O'Toole and Reeve had really nice chemistry together and I almost wish they had continued that into the fourth movie rather than bringing back Kidder.

At first i thought, cool...seeing the funny side of Superman (and evil side) I'm sure before this was written, they thought - lets show people this time how Superman be in a bad guy outfit. It's like, that was a good idea at the time 😂😂😂 I knew when this was made, it's the end of Reeve's Superman...and they should've stop cos Sup 4 was Horrible, a joke. NOTHING is as badass as "Evil Superman" in from any incarnation, this sequence in itself makes Superman III watchable.
Good points: Chemical plant and going back to Smallville, Lana & Clark, and her regret choosing the badboy over him, also how she is genuinely more interested in Clark than Superman, rather than Lois being the complete opposite.
Also Gus embezzling from Websco (even though it was a technicality!) early example corporate hacking (though you're that smart to hack, yet not smart to know NOT to turn up to work next morning in a brand new Ferrari!) and the whole issue with the fuel shortage is like a commentary on society and last, but not least as mentioned, EVIL SUPERMAN and the fight.
Bad points: Almost everything else, the Salkinds were too commercial (you didn't mention the Nike placement or the A-Team), from the silly missile Atari game to Superman battling a Supercomputer (pun intended) with less power than an iPhone by today's standards. Enjoyable overall but I'm a child of the 80s.

    • @Dragontrumpetare
      @Dragontrumpetare 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I think this movie actually is trying more to tell that Clark is Superman than the other movies in this show did. They were more like Superman is clark. even the short explanation I think once was Superman and his alterego clark kent. WIch in sense is different to other superheroes. Bruce Waye is doing his crime fighting as batman. Peter Parker do the same. But Superman was more or less a nickname of Kal-El, and he was more or less Kal-el that sometimes dresses like a ordinary man. In sense its kinda like the Phantom who also always is the Phantam the walking wraith or what ever he is called in english. Bt sometimes he wanna walk like an ordinarie man and he dresses without his tights and is then called Chris. lol.
But here Clark is more Clark. Clark is even fihting himself. So I think this movie was among the first trying to make Clark Kent that IS superman.

It would make story lines in movies and tv even more confusing to watch trying to keep all the colors in order for three differant mediums.

MadMan's Creatives IMHO the only good thing about the Donner cut of II was Marlin Brando. I feel like the Metropolis battle was too chaotic with characters just randomly flying around that it didn't make any sense.
The underground battle wasn't as fleshed out as the Lester cut either. I liked all the individual grunts and groans of the two Kryptonians having it out under Metropolis in the Lester cut. The Donner cut just looks uninteresting in comparison.

The Swedish version of Superman III actually has a title. It's called "Stålmannen går på en krypto-nit", which is a little hard to translate, but I'll give it a shot. Stålmannen translates to "The steel-man" which is the pretty lame original "swedification" of "Superman". Nowadays we use the english original-name for the character.
". . . går på en krypto-nit" is a pun. The swedish expression "gå på en nit" means "have a loss" or "have a setback" usually ensued by an outside force. By adding "Krypto" to the "nit" we get the reference to Kryptonite.
It's fitting, however because Superman does have a setback ensued by the false kryptonite.
Oh, By the way, Minty. Love between cousins is not considered incest in Sweden. Cousins are allowed to have relationships and even marry each other.

It's also cleverly done, in the way that it is never explained if it actually happened or if it was all in his head, like an internal struggle that was played out or a hallucination caused by the Krytonite. I also love the over the top 80's slapstick which works in this film, and provides much needed comic relief from the serious dark stuff. I also liked that a lot of it was Richard Pryor's story.

Superman 3 was indeed the turning point in the Christopher Reeve Superman series. The first 2 films were not without their flaws, especially the 2nd one.
However, Superman 3 is clearly a different type of movie, and its flaws are on a whole new level. There are certain aspects of this movie though that are still very good, and make Superman 3 worth watching at least once including:
-Christopher Reeve himself. This is the best he/Superman ever looked on film. The exploration of Superman's dark side is a compelling aspect of the plot, and the climactic junkyard battle between Clark & Dark Superman is still the closest we've ever come to seeing Superman vs. Bizarro on the big screen.
-Superman 3 also contains some of the coolest, "hero moments" for Superman himself including the photobooth gag and car rescue in the intro, the frozen lake rescue of the chemical fire, and the scene where he stops the thresher from killing Lana's son.
-Richard Pryor is a confusing inclusion, but his presence isn't what ruins the movie. It's mostly fine for about the first half or so. After the aforementioned Clark vs. Dark battle though, Superman 3 quickly becomes very hard to watch. The computer battle is nonsense, and the actual villains in this film come off like a poor man's version of the Lex Luthor, Otis, and Miss Tessmacher trio, and anyone who is an imitation Ned Beatty at best never really had a chance.

But lets face it, didnt lex in sense turned to in a sense a Webster character in the more modern superman. I mean I remember Lex to be a Supervillain almost looking like Brainiac in this video. lol. But suddenly he was rich, and openly a normal company, but in the dark he is more a maffia boss. Its just the money that makes him super dangerous because he is filthy rich. Then we have Gene Hackmans lex, that doesnt really seem to be rich, he just take stuff, and did build stuff without money somehow... Or made smart bank jobs maybe. Also not a super villaine, more of supergenius.

We were in the group of people watching the presentation. I was freaking out because I thought the Americans were invading and had taken over my town. There were US flags everywhere and the giant US flag in the background of the stage was on one of the city's movie theatres. Superman was a small side note.
