Im hearing more low mids in Sommer. Vovox most clean and transparent. I‘m using The spirit xxl for ages as i can solder my own „high end“ cables for 10-15€. But maybe i‘ll get a vovox for recroding. But i‘d want 2-2,4m not 3m as single coils loose highs after 2m
Sommer is best as far as sound/ price goes, if you can solder yourself, evidence audio is also selling cables by meter, this is how I hame cost of my cables. vovox seem to accentuate some frequencies that I didn't want to hear in my guitar tone.
@danielbelensky5513 tbh i did not know evidence. Seems like cables by metre its only „monorail“ thin one for pedalboards. „The forte“ is only available normally. I ran some tests all with sommer spirit xxl with 1m vs 2,4m With neutrik and 2,4m with Hicon. Guitar SP p90. 1m is more lively than 2.4m (thats why i dont get why vovox and evidence sell only 1m which is to short and 3-3,5m which is too long for lossless single coil). Anyhow both 2.4M sommer sounded a little different. It‘s either the solder joint / amount of solder (same solder) or the Metal of the Hicon Plugs sound worse than neutrik. It‘s insane!
The more pleasing muddy mids of the Summer Cable’s contenders are due to them losing top end highs and clarity of the original signal. This test resembles my own findings from 20 years ago, when I did a couple of A/B tests: My good old Summer Cables do not cut highs as most of other cables would do. As I use 4 cables to connect my effects processor, cable loss would most probably be significant with Evidence or VOVOX. In cases where I prefer less treble, I can dial in the tone knobs on my guitar. Lost highs of other cables are gone.
You clearly need to check your hearing. Vovox clearly has more prominent and detailed high end and more transient information compared to others. Also extended low end :) (I have several Sommer cables too like Carbokab, Quantum etc )
@@JH-pw9zz You might hear a difference in low end, I never detected any significance in that respect. While I am always open to improvement, given my applications the advantage of Summer Cables was drastic. Your milage may vary.
@@JH-pw9zz Thanks for your heads up. When I am wrong, I admit it. After having heard the first couple of samples again, I concluded that a little lack of mids (which I did not expect - and therefore did not pay enough attention initially) led to my conclusion that Sommer beats Vovox soundwise. Now I agree with you: Actually Vovox seems to transmit little but noticeable more information over the full range. And this might matter in some instances. If sound was the only criteria, I'd go for Vovox as well. However: As I take price into consideration, my preference for Sommer has not changed in decades. Apart from that, I do not agree that I clearly need to have my hearing checked. At least not if you are my benchmark. ;) I still gave your comment a thumbs up.
@@EL34Quartett All good. Just wanted to clarify for anyone who´s reading and deciding which way to go with their sound. Differences were very evident for me through Prism Orpheus & KH310 (by the way, I know many mastering engineers who use Vovox cabling in their monitoring chain, unshielded Sonorus preferebly if they are able to get away without shielding ). Your listening chain matters a lot in these shootouts. All the best in your future sound adventures :)
If a thick cable with a lot of copper would yield better sound quality, would not guitar manufacturers use such cable inside guitars from the pickups, through the pots and switches and to the output jack? Because they don't... I listened to this with expensive headphones, and I could not hear the difference. Are there any rich and famous artists who use Vovox?
Thick cable with a lot of copper isn't necessary good thing, cause it's difficult to solder in guitar and basically unusable and fragile on stage. Fancy cables inside guitar wont make a lot of difference as it's just 10-20 cm long run not 6 meter cable on stage. With all these TH-cam comparisons, keep in mind that TH-cam compresses audio quite a lot, so It's not that easy to hear differences for, but when played in person there are some differences, not something to die for, but they are different. other thing to consider that all three cables are quite good, so they won't far away soundwise anyway. Sommer basically is cheap cable but for the price/quality/sound/ it's one of the best cables in market. Vovox are very expensive but they are also very bright and clear, it will work for some people or studios, and won't for other. Personally I love Evidence Audio the best, it very robust, flexible and sounds really good on even long runs (over 6 meters), it's not as bright as Vovox, but I prefer more sweet sound anyway.
Just regular "The Spirit". I like it better than XXL, www.thomann.de/gb/sommer_cable_the_spirit.htm?sid=a8f8f063d0148d4a3ef68bbba2b16b41&ref=intl&shp=eyJjb3VudHJ5IjoiZ2IiLCJjdXJyZW5jeSI6NCwibGFuZ3VhZ2UiOjJ9&reload=1
That's exactly what I was going to write. Sommer's Spirit LLX is superior than The Spirit. It's even response is less muddy, even highs, and accurate definition. I also highly recommend the Providence E-205, Lava Ultramafic, Mogami 3368 (overdrive), Klotz AC110 (La Grange), The 420 by Intex, and... for an apples to apples comparison to Vovox, The "Propell" by Audio Envy is not only similar construction, but is a true directional cable! Clear, concise, and uses a genius dielectric assembly.
Vovox clearly the best .. complete clean and present sounded
I kept evidence, didn’t like vovox at all
I just bought a vovox sonorous protect A350. So I will say the vovox 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
Sommer has some serious punch.
for price Sommer is one of the best cables
VoVox by far. Most accurate dynamics and wide range, raw quality.
I liked Evidence Audie way more. vovox is less reliable, and emphasising some frequencies that I don't like.

Definitely the Hamer Californian... I'm sorry, what was the question?
indeed, but Les Paul is also really good.

Sommer is pretty nice for the price
I think for a price it's killer cable, on Thomann, you can buy them by meters, and solder whatever custom cable you need.
