Debbie Friedman - Kumi Lach (Live 1991)
On July 13, 1991, Debbie headlined a special concert to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Olin-Sang-Ruby Union Institute in Oconomowoc, WI. As she prepares to sing Kumi Lach, she is flooded with emotion at returning to the place of the song's composition in the early 1970s.

In this performance from the out-of-print LIVE AT THE DEL concert video (slightly edited), Debbie teaches the three-part ending of Not By Might in a way that recalls her camp song leading style of the 1970s.

I sang along (we sing this is temple) that people, and my country, can heal.
Please listen to this woman!!! Even if you don't know words, the are asking for God for help for all people!! She is a fantastic and wonderful singer!!! She died of cancer, I think.
Is this a traditional tune for the Mi Shebeirach, or did we sing this tune in temple based on a Debbie Friedman song?
The prayer is very old but this is Debbie's version. Many Reform synagogues have adopted her songs. The one I attend rotates this version in with a few others. It's my favorite.
(Yell out your cabin and the year)
Just found this. We need to remind our non Jewish brothers and sisters that everyone deserves healing.
Heard in Barney in Concert, and the original 1997 release of Baby Einstein: Language Nursery
Anyone on here go to Tehiyah Day School in El Cerrito, CA in the 90s and remeber singing Debbie literally every other day😅😅
Lovely
Love. Had me clapping.
Bring them home ❤️❤️❤️💔🇮🇱
Love Debbie!
I was there in person as a camper. This concert made me fall in love with Debbie’s music.
I wish she could have known what she did for so many of our lives. Especially in this day and time. She was extraordinary.
This song and her singing are so emotional. Miss her light and love for all!!
She has the most wonderful voice. You can really feel the emotion in her singing. I misted up it was so beautiful.
I’m an ASL interpreter for 50 years & want to say how much I appreciated the interpreter. Love from Rochester!
I keep coming back to this prayer these days and can’t help but to understand how fully and unequivocally this prayer belongs to the Palestinian people. Their women and children. “Those in need of healing. With full recovery.” May their land, their homes, their families be made whole one day soon, and may the wicked perversion of my faith be removed so that the Jewish people may grow, learn and heal themselves. I never thought my culture would pursue such atrocity. I feel lost.
No words...😢
❤
Knowing Debbie in person and listening to this inspiring song always bring not only tears to my eyes but definitely hope to all people who need these words of healing -to all people of all faiths everywhere in the world. May this song and other songs of peace “Shalom” will unite all human beings and we shall not see no war no more.

Hi! I'd like to get in touch with you about using one of these videos for the URJ. Can you be in touch, or let me know how to reach you?
Ah-Men!
She is so missed. I sang all her renditions while singing in my old choir. Beautiful. May her memory always forever be a blessing 🙏

This is so emotional given what's just going on in Israel I sit here in the loneliness and cry for those families that are feeling such pain
You are not alone.
My response as well. Not alone. Breathe into all the love of our community. We have all been feeling this. And our hearts are wide open.
Yes, my heart is broken too. 💙💙💙🩵🇮🇱
Me too
Needed now more than ever
The world needs this right now.
Needed this today 🥹❤️
I miss her. I send this to friends (Jewish and not) when they are suffering. Was playing as my grandma z"l took her last breaths. We sang this in EMTZA USY. I was extremely lucky to see her live. Debbie's voice filled the world with peace.
It "lives" on my computer's desktop for playing when I am afraid, sad, grieving. It helps so much. I miss her and those in my family who have been gone too long.
Sam Bankman Friedman mother?
❤ G-d bless.
I was looking for a beautiful Jewish prayer for my father Yoseph who is in a lot of pain due to a herniated disc. I wish him and everyone reading this strength and healing. May god bless everyone and help guide us to a healthy life - amen🙏
2023 anyone?

This lady gets right into my heart!!!
Too bad she’s dead she motivated a lot of cantors and my cantor that I had when I was a kid was nuts but she sang in her style good times
Oh girl, tune up your guitar when you sing. My ears!aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!
You’re missing the point of the piece.

I had the pleasure of meeting her at a music retreat in 2010. I didn't know which Debbie it was I had been speaking to until after, and that I had grown up listening to and singing her music.
