Purchased this particular model brand new for $716 out the door, installed shims in the trigger and hammer also a Wilson Combat spring set everything under $25 , ( did the work myself) plus some nice wood grips from EBay those where $55, and I own a sweet firearm. It was a difficult decision between this and the Kimber K6 which was $959 without the tax, but what stopped me from buying the Kimber was their one year warranty. I had two experiences with Ruger customer service and they where excellent. I have no regrets on my purchase, I don’t pocket carry anything other than my S&W Bodyguard 380 in a Vedder holster , anything else is just a huge uncomfortable bulge on me. When I carry on my waist I use a Kore belt and depending on my firearm my holster is either a G-code eclipse which is my favorite but they don’t have every firearm, 2nd is a Vedder , or a Garrett industries which is excellent for revolvers .
I like the fact that you carry .357 Mag. I have seen a lot of SP101 videos where people recommend carrying .38 SPL +P loads. If that is the case, then carry a .38. I bought a .357 to carry .357, not a smaller round. I have an S&W .38 to carry .38 if I feel like it.
For people who are recoil sensitive for whatever reason, the sp 101 is a great platform to shoot 38 special +p. If you can not consistently put accurate shots on target quickly the “ stopping power” of 357 does not do you much good
I carry a 3" SP101 myself and love it. I shoot and carry 357 as well. I did the same thing and changed out the spring with a wolf spring and left the trigger return spring... changed out the front site with an XS standard dot night site. I do change my loads depending on where Im going.. I'll use Underwood 158 Gr if out in the woods or 180 gr Buffalo Bore. I'll use Hornady Critical Defense or Winchester PDX1 for usual carry .. Some times the Underwood 38+p or Buffalo bore 38+p if I know Im going to be indoors most of the day...
Johnny Gunz Not a bad right bud. I get complaints from my buddies all the time about carrying a revolver while they have their Glocks and so on. But the SP101 is almost a perfect balance. You really can't go much smaller and have more control over a 357 like the SP101 does. I love my Wiley Clapp model and the front and rear night sights make it exceptional for all day carry and it takes on a hell of a trigger. I'll honestly say, it can be better than a Smith with a little bit of work. Also, try out the Underwood Extreme Defense. A little expensive, however, great penetration and knock down without fear of over penetration.
Yes but I do suggest Underwood's 38+ P rated at 1200 fps .. You'll still get around 1100 or so out of it so you're not sacrificing too much power loss.. other choice is the 110 gr 38+p Buffalo Bore its advertised at 1125 fps but I sent Paul Harrell a box for testing (you can watch his youtube vid), he got around 1190 out of SP101 2 1/4 "! ... less noise indoors than a full 357 but still enough punch..
I'll be honest, I just bought the SP101 WC. She slings 357 pretty well in my opinion. I put night sights on just because I work 2nd shift. I polished pretty much every moving part. The wolff return does fine. Just polish up the well and lug and you should be good. It's a little spongy, but nowhere near as bad as it could be. I bought micro mesh pads to help with the polishing. That's what you should use also. End result can be mirror polish.... I wouldn't suggest it, do to too much material loss. But still good to have and use.
Nice! A while back I missed out on a Wiley Clapp SP101. I purchased a regular SP101 .357M only to find the WC model on clearance for $100 cheaper the next day at Academy Sports. Ughhh,,, I didn't have enough Fun Fund$ to get both that week.😕
If you bought a holster that matched the color of your grips it would look extra cool. Nice set up. Speer got dot makes a great 125 grain .357mag. It's a great load.
With a good holster the weight of the Ruger SP101 is almost unnoticeable or at least in my opinion, I have practically the same set-up you just shown in the video except the Don Hume holster I carry has a thumb break security strap for added retention, just in case some wise guy was to decide it would be a good idea to try to grab my firearm while I'm standing in line at the register or some other unforseen event, as for ammunition I don't carry anything special just the good old-fashioned Remington green and white box 125gr semi jacketed hollow point or Winchester 158gr sjhp, old technology but when something works this well why change it.
You can't beat the Ruger sp101, great choice that is what I bet my life on! Love your setup! How does the don home holster work for you , as far as concealability and ease of draw? I've been wanting to try another holster option and was just wondering. Thanks for the video, enjoyed it!
If you could get a gun like that SP101 that also shot .357 magnum rounds, was not polymer, had perhaps nicer grips, was lighter and smaller, and perhaps available in more variations, would you prefer that? I've asked myself that question, because I have both types of guns, and I have to say I carry the other gun.
eqlzr2 The SP101 WC is pretty much as small as most people are willing to go. Even the smaller Smith's aren't good with a 357 load. I've used the Ruger LCR in 357 and Smith Airweight in 357. Both suck for that load. Sure, the grips are a bit more comfortable. But they don't own the round like the SP101 does. Plus, the Novak's make it a lot sleeker to carry. I have a fully polish trigger and lightest spring trigger job in mine. It came perfect from the factory not needing shims and even more so, I have some trijicon night sights. This little revolver is a dream to shoot.
Smith has always had nicer trigger. But won't take a diet of heavy loads like a ruger. My wife's Smith and Wesson blew up from to much shooting. Smith and Wesson told us it's not designed for a steady diet like we were feeding it. So she carries the replacement Smith but shoots the ruger more
Love my SP101!

Because they’re super loud without hearing protection, or so many people say. Indoors you will lose your hearing, or get tinnitus, or something.
Ruger SP101 Wiley Clapp!!!! Leather Holster With 5:11 Tactical Belt!!! Looks Great!!!! Shoots Well!!! Feels Good In Hand!!! Thanks MM!!!

Good point on 38+p for in doors I may do the same

Revolvers are beautiful
Good video. Thanks for sharing.
I use a leather open top holster also

I carry my sp 101 in a Relentless Tactical IWB in the appendix position and it is very comfortable and does not print at all
Try Gold Dot 357MAG Short Barrel. Superior to the Critical Defense, IMHO.
The only big negative is that’s it’s only a 5 shot! I also love carrying revolvers but they have to be 6 or 7 shot guns.
Nice rig

I have a lot of holsters, some over $100 but the don home is the best "for me "
Derek Plyler My SP101 got just by the wife. Lol
MUY LINDO TU REVLVER Y EL VIDEO TAMBIEN.
%100 STEEL & LEATHER BOY my Self 😂
Well believe me When you’re in need of pulling your TRIGGER it’s going to feel like NOTHING 😂

Never had to change springs in my Smith. Won't ever buy Ruger again.
My Wife DC a S&W it is a " better " gun.
