Crochet Starfish - Under the Sea CAL Square 1

We are kicking off the year-long Under the Sea CAL Blanket with a Crochet Starfish to adorn our first square! This smiling starfish is super quick to crochet and I suggest making two so you can sew one on the front and back of the water bubble square.

For the squares I will be using RedHeart Ombré in Scuba. Since it’s ocean 🌊 I thought the different colors of blue would give it a little 😊something extra.

I’m so excited about this project! My plan is to do all 15 of the appliqués (plus the alternate color of the orca to make a dolphin, as suggested on your blog) to make a blanket that’s 4x4 squares. On a side note (funny one), you used an H hook and got a 12” square; I used a J hook and my square is about 10.5” 😅. How tight must I crochet?!

I am going to try to make this. I have made two of the squares, but haven't tried any of the critters yet. Instead of sewing them on to the block, would it be possible to attach them with fabric glue. What are your thoughts?
