  • A friend of mine just picked up this very clean 2001 GMC Yukon XL with nearly 300k miles. I'm impressed with how clean and well taken care of it is!

    It's nice to see someone take care of their car it's very rare sadly.

    • @Y10Q
      @Y10Q 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      on these, it is not rare. These last almost as long as Toyotas and Subarus. You see Yukons and Suburbans with 400k miles all the time.

      Im a chevy tech and while I don't see many of these with 400k miles, they will easily pass 200k with proper maintenance. Change your oil on time and don't neglect the transmission, they will go a long ways.

    • @ad356
      @ad356 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      the engines are strong the transmissions really arent that great from factory. i have a 96 camaro LT1, similar 4L60E, its going to need another rebuild..... but the previous owner did it at aamco, dont have a very high opinion of aamco. the LT1 has 238K on it and runs strong, the trans will get rebuilt the car will live on.
      factory the 4L60 has a really weak sunshell, the need what's called a beast to make it reasonably strong.

    • @Koshunae
      @Koshunae 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 4L60e wasn't a bad design, being based on the 700r4 transmission. You are right though, both transmissions tended to have weak spots but could usually be rebuilt to handle most anything. The 700r4 in my 92 silverado went after it split a check ball in valve body which killed reverse and made 3rd gear slip. After a heavy-duty rebuild and a couple of corvette servos, the truck is stronger than ever, chirping the tires into 2nd and sometimes 3rd, depending on my driving style.

    As far as the fog lights go, my 14 Toyota yaris base came without fogs but does have provisions for installing them. My transmission teacher said most times the wires are tied to the loom incase you want to add them at a later date. Which I'm doing tomorrow. But wow I'm surprised this old gm isn't rusted to all hell. That is definitely a loved vehicle.

    • @helivesonforever
      @helivesonforever 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Same with my F-150. Wires are there from factory, but they weren't available on an XLT trim package back then. It's just cheaper for a manufacturer to include them than to have two different assembly lines going with two or more wiring harness options.

    I've got a 2000 Explorer like this, 5.0 V8, hit 260K and like everything is factory and everything works perfectly fine, did ball joints and a tuneup when I got it and I honestly have to give a hand, it was really worth the $200 I gave for it, so much so I drive it daily now.

    My 03 GM has looney toon floor mats and has been kept in similar condition except for parking lot dings from stray carts, swinging doors, and people hitting my car while parking and driving off. I guarantee this car is from the west coast, most likely Arizona. I say this because of the degree of rear window tint and lack of rust. Nice find.

      Ali Saleh none that I can recall.. mine had the 5.3L in it. I ran it with Mobil 1 synthetic with 5k mile intervals.. I bought it with 31k on the clock. Ran trouble free up until the 230k mark where it started burning half a quart of oil every 2000 miles or so. Other than that, the engine was rock solid. Routinely got 17-18 combined and 20-21 on the highway. (most of my driving was and is highway, anyways) hope that helps. I sold it because it started rusting from all the road salt we use around here... Sad day when I sold her. :(

      Ali Saleh also, I added an aftermarket trans cooler... So I never had any transmission issues. Learned my lesson after my Silverado started hitting 260 degrees when taking it up through the mountains... if you know what I mean

    I've got an '07 Tahoe LTZ with 174,000 Miles and I love it. Torn drivers seat, leaking air suspension, and had the transmission changed at 161K. Other than that, its been great! Granted, I've had it since April of 2016 and have put over 15K on it. But still, I wouldn't trade it for most anything at this point. Pulls hard, sounds good, looks good, and easily carries around 7 fat guys without flinching. Just gotta get the air suspension fixed and she will be as good as new. Hope to hit 300K+ with it.

    I work at a Buick/GMC dealership and someone traded in a '02 in literally the exact same spec as the one in the video. It had 179,000 miles and was in pretty good shape. It had a tiny bit of rust just in front of the rear wheels, but the underneath was surprisingly solid. It ran perfectly and the only thing that didn't work was the radio, no sound came out of the speakers (head unit worked, just no sound)

    @THETOPGLOCK 6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    Daniel. I did not realize how many wealthy folk watched your videos. I cannot believe the amount of people saying it's more cost effective to buy a new 50k+ SUV. Here's where I'm at. If the vehicle is rust free and paint still looks good go for it.. Still THOUSANDS cheaper then buying new.
    We own a 2010 Jeep Commander 3.7 125k that's absolutely beautiful. My wife loves this car. I'll do what ever it takes to keep it on the road.

    • @elguapo4461
      @elguapo4461 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Walking is more cost effective. You spend $0 on that, but it's not a question of just what's more cost effective, its question of what's more cost effective with the intent. And whatever your intent is, why would you spend more money than what the vehicle is worth? That's stupid. For the market value and the cost to keep the truck running, you may as well buy a better vehicle. There are newer Yukons and Suburbans in my area for $3,000 and 2/3 the miles. Why would spend that much on this thing? That's isn't effective.
      As for the $50,000 new truck, the intent in buying a new vehicle is going to be the same. I don't know why you people are making leaps and creating these unfair comparisons. I'd buy a new vehicle because it's new and nice, and I won't have to spend thousands for the next 300,000 miles.

    • @THETOPGLOCK
      @THETOPGLOCK 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      El Guapo Why would you put more into a car then it's worth? By your comment it proves to me you are definitely a buffoon that pays to have everything done for you. What about people that build race cars? Huh. They put more in them then it's worth! What about lifted trucks? What about restoring a old car? Do you have any idea once so ever how much a brand new engine or transmission cost? Peanuts compared to the cost of a new vehicle. But hey if you're that person that always needs the latest and greatest then go for it man. It's your money dude.

    • @elguapo4461
      @elguapo4461 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      THETOPGLOCK Yes, I am the type of "buffoon" who started a business and earns more than what would cost to pay a mechanic. I've done the work before, and I'd much rather pay someone. It actually allows me to afford his service, a $50,000 vehicle for my family and then some.

    • @mark7067
      @mark7067 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      THETOPGLOCK Yeah, it also is more cost effective to do your own oral surgery with a hammer and a pick. I'm sure doing that is what has allowed you to create a life for you and your wife/sister.

    Id say fair price being it was well taken care of and no rust at all around here in iowa it easily sell for around 1500-2500. Also always a bonus the tranny been rebuilt if true as 4l60e wasn't the greatest tranny stock. The 5.3 vortec will run a good 300k easy if taken care of and regular oil changes. I personally know someone that has 350k on his chevy and still driving it today.

    I'd spend 1000-1500 for this. I paid $1200 for a 99 Sierra from the original owner with 305k original miles. Needed hub assembly , power steering pump, u joint, and oil change. I drive it everyday and tow 6k lbs on a regular basis with it. Has a slight lifter tap in the morning but who cares ? Nice slt loaded leather interior, 4x4, minor rust, does everything you'd expect a truck to do. I expect to get 350k before any major engine/trans repair. When it needs those repairs done I will pay to have the engine replaced or the trans rebuilt. In my area GM trucks hold their value like crazy. Same truck in similar condition would run 3k easy and 99-06 GM trucks are my favorite. I'll be keeping mine for a long time

    I bought an ‘01 nearly identical to this last month. The biggest difference is mine is an SLE, so I have cloth seats. Mine has 200k and is in about the same condition as this; it seems that most of these were used/abused pretty hard. Mine has been in Northern Colorado since new and we don’t salt the roads here, so that’s helped a lot too.

    If your buddy bought it with an out of state title you have to have a Vin verification too for licensing now. I live in Missouri..in the Ozarks..and my car I bought in Missouri but it was titled in Oklahoma. Oklahoma is only 60 miles from me. Save your buddy the headache just in case..gotta love the Missouri DMV. So if he has the title and it's out of state when he gets it inspected he can get the Vin verification done too at the same time. Daniel you should do inspections out of your garage. Easy $12 each

    My 2003 yukon has an oil pan leak. GMC wanted to charge me $1700.00 to fix it. I have not gotten it fixed and just check the oil constantly.

    I'm really jealous - but here in Cali everything is either beat to heck or overpriced like crazy. About to sell my mint interior and perfect mechanically 1992 Chevy C1500 RCSB so I can buy an SUV - I hope I find something like that, even if it's a bit ugly on the outside. Miles don't scare me haha. Hoping for a 96+ Suburban 2500 :)

    I agree it's worth what you feel it's worth my 1979 chevy van I customized has no blue book value it has 380k miles is cherry I bought it new I wouldn't take ten grand for it more reliable than the new car I got rid of sick of putting in the shop for computer problems sensors going bad junk like that

    I would pay maybe $3,000 for it with a maximum of $3,500. I was looking at some Suburbans that were of similar model year and with about 200K miles in fair condition they are selling for $4,000 to 6,000 here in Kansas City.

    We had a 2000 that was damn near identical to this! And in about the same shape. We sold it a year ago with 230k on the clock. We had it from 2001-2016. Had to do the water pump and have the front end redone, along with a couple fuel pumps but other than that we never had much of an issue with anything. Apparently the engine blew on the new owners just a few months ago... Not sure what happened there as it was running amazing and flew through the shop before we sold it.

    Daniel is that lift you have just a set it up and go type lift? I didn't see anything bolted down in the concrete. I have always wanted a lift in my garage, but never in my life have seen one other than the industrial type that is anchored down. Please share more info about the lift if you can. Thanks!

      Lifters!

    • @GhettoWagon
      @GhettoWagon 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah they will fail eventually and damage the camshaft. The 5.3 here just started ticking on and off but it may be that the broken manifold bolt is causing the exhaust leak to get worse. Check all the manifold bolts. Also some say a O ring on the pickup tube goes bad, need to drop the pan to check it / replace it. It will cause lower oil pressure and will introduce air into pressurized oil, which intern will prevent oil from getting to the lifters intermittently and will create a ticking sound

    Nice truck and whoever owned it before knows how to take care of a vehicle. As far as the 286K, those LS engines start loosing oil pressure around 320K to 350K and rebuild or new motor will be needed, such a nice truck, I would buy a junkyard motor for it. good luck

    I prefer big SUVs too. Mine isn't this big, but my budget wasn't big enough to get anything this nice in a Suburban or Yukon XL. No real interest in the Tahoe or regular Yukon honestly, there's more cargo room behind the 3rd row seat in my Durango, and it folds down rather than having to be removed, the longer Suburban body has much more room back there, I'd rarely even think about needing to remove the 3rd seat in those...

    Having worked on tons of these and currently owning 2,this truck easy has another 200k on it if its taken care of.if your (non castech) 5.3 lm7 motor isn't making it to 500k then you're doing it wrong. The 4l60e is a different story though.

    I'd say $1,000-$1,500. People saying $4,000+ are high on something. Even if you live in a snowy state, given me a break. You can drive one back form a warm state for less money.

    Well, this SUV has been well serviced and really taken care of. I wonder what the price of a new one is, but it's luxurious inside. I think it's worth $12000 to $15000 after the done replacements but I am not familiar with US prices and this kind of vehicles.

    Blue Book says below $1,500. For the cost the vehicle and fixing it's issues, you could buy one that's 6 years newer, in good shape and 1/2 the mileage. Unless fixing is what they do, I don't know why anyone would waste their time and money on this.

    I just bought an old 2003 van last year with 140,000 miles on it for $3,000, and considered it a bargain. It was one-owner, always garaged, looked even cleaner than your Yukon, was maintained regularly, (spoke with original owner), and the underside was dry and spotless, only a little surface rust on some untreated suspension parts (which is fantastic for here in the Midwest !!) I consider the fact that just the SALES TAX alone on a new one would be almost double my purchase price …. my property tax and insurance is next to nothing …. and a vehicle with some miles on it (especially one owner) has proven to be a good operating machine or it wouldn't have made it this far, whereas a new vehicle is an unknown risk and you hope for the best while paying tens of thousands more. I'll stick with the tried-n-true high milers.
