Love your videos! My first flight as a child was with my father out of Mason City where our hanger was, so I love seeing you flights there. Now retired at 60 years old I have my private and only 150 hours. Working on my instrument, so your flights like this really help me. I now live in Montana, so it's a bit different with all the mountains around.
The last time I flew into Nashville was almost 20 years ago. I was flying a Gulfstream 3 with COS Andy Card onboard. We were trying to make it into DC when one of our students detected fumes making him nauseous. I asked our staff what they were sensing and we all went on 100% oxygen. Looked at my copilot and asked him closest field to land, he said Nashville. We were at FL 370 and we were on the ground in less than 20 mins from declaring an emergency. The rescue and ATC guys were super awesome. Nothing but thanks for the professionals on the ground, but it helped to have a super experienced crew to get us there.
In 1974, my very first solo cross-country was from Houston Hobby to San Antonio International and back. The SAT tower held me at 2500 hundred ft. on base leg for 22R while a Braniff jet passed below me on final for 22L. I could see the stripes on the first officer's shoulders as he looked up at me. When I was cleared to land, I turned final, dumped full flaps, and landed on the numbers. I think the runways have changed since 1974 when I flew in there. Probably won't see students flying into there anymore, lol. Good times.

Normally try to stay away from air carrier airports due to high fuel costs but in Nashville Tune's fuel is no cheaper but the do have very friendly and helpful folks.

Another great video! Two things I do: I wait for the gear up on long runways so I can land straight ahead if needed. GFC600: I preset HDG Mode, pre-select Alt and then IAS Mode and the speed so after take off I just hit the AP button and all is well.
That when-to-raise-the-gear argument can be made either way, Timm. If my one and only engine quits shortly after take-off, my main concern is MY well being, more so than the well being of the airplane. If that means I walk away uninjured from a gear-up landing, so be it. At the same time, after I cross the airport fence, I will have climbed higher if I raise the gear early, giving me more time and more options. Regards, Martin

You do such a great job recording your videos. Most people don’t realize the work involved editing the multiple cameras. Right now 2 is my limit lol. I would love to see a video how you show your iPad “live” on your videos. 😀
Thank you for the kind words! The iPad recording is actually pretty straightforward: I use an Apple USB-C-to-HDMI adapter, which provides an HDMI output of the iPad's screen. Which in turn is recorded on a digital video recorder (I use the BlackMagic Video Assist). Then it's like yet another camera angle for editing purposes. - Martin
Hey Martin another nice film, great editing. I love your Aspen set up and JPI 930 EDM, seems to offer a nice clear screen, and easier to read than my smaller 830. Interestingly at start up it was indicating 61 gallons of fuel on board, and at 11:03 it is indicating ….. 61 gallons on board. Quantity affected by the aircraft’s climb attitude possibly? Is it my imagination or does your control wheel have a slight left offset when wings level? Don’t you just love TH-cam Monday morning quarter back comments?! Keep up the great content.👍
Well, these fuel level indicators aren't famous for their accuracy, are they? If you look closely, you can see that the fuel remaining has decreased to 55.6 gallons (the number just to the left of the fuel levels). It is the fuel totalizer, which subtracts the consumed fuel (which is known with high accuracy) from the starting level. So no, my Bonanza doesn't magically fly without consuming fuel. The yoke was indeed off a little bit; that was corrected last week. - Martin
Yes - at last, the FAA has approved Aspen's STC. They had already given TSO approval for the new software back in November, but we also needed the STC to activate the digital interface in my Bonanza. It's all complete now! - Martin

Hi Dave. What you heard is the Aspen PFD; it says "Altitude" when it's getting time to level off, and again when deviating from the targeted altitude (altitude bug). - Martin

Sometime back I recall you mentioned how many Class Charlie's you had been to and how many were left to go .. can you perhaps update that number on a future video? Martin, at around 11:02 one of the green gear light is on, is this normal in the bonanza? I'm wondering what kind of failure case would cause that if not. I'm sure you are/were aware if this is a mechanical issue, however I'm just curious what could cause it, as green on usually means a switch is pressed and the gear is locked.
No, I did not. I do vent the crankcase after I get back to the hangar to allow moisture to escape, but that's it. I also fly a lot, which most people would agree is the best thing you can do to give your engine a long, happy life. - Martin

It was a wiring issue. Has since then been fixed.

Easy clearance out of CID
Most of my clearances out of CID are "direct" or "as filed". That does make it easy for sure.

Martin, do you have a speech-to-text program to make the text on the videos (eg the ATIS) - or do you type that in by hand?
I do those captions by hand. Takes a lot of time, but I hear from a lot of people who find them extremely helpful.
