As someone on a PS5 who has never touched the BG or DnD universe I gotta say this is the most helpful thing ever! I watched a couple of other guides similar to this one but none of them had such a digestible approach. this left me feeling like I could really get started without being flustered like 80% of the time. I really appreciate how you emphasize and encourage people to play the character they want and RP it. I have a problem with always wanting to min max, but listening to your previous videos encouraged me to just do what I wanted (a tiefling rogue/ranger), and it is my favorite playthrough so far!
Yeah man, it's a RPG! ENJOY YOURSELF! My character is a Beastmaster - far from the super optimized builds out there, but I fucking love him
The only suggestion I have, above all, is avoid scum saving. Makes the RPG'ness really shine
Min Maxing is a cancer nowadays in so many onlinegames.
Even the devs has said dont try to do everything in one run you will miss things and thats okay. Dont try too minmax but rollplay what you like. And also dont be worried about failing doce rolls and things like that as even a fail can lead to something good and its all part of the game. Its a game about consequences and the best play is to see what does decisions you make take you its your journey.

I played BG2 when i was much younger so had a (very) basic understanding of how this would play. Played D&D for exactly 1 campaign around the same time (think it was 2.5e) but strayed away from it because of life.
This guide is incredibly helpful. To the point where I'm absolutely dominating most enemies on tactician.
Coming from DOS2 and X-com and its sequels I am very versed in action economy, so after your intro to difficulties, I chose tactician. The game has basically turned in to "how can i get the most out of everything I can throw at enemies, while conserving limited slots and taking the least damage." Something I absolutely love doing in games.
This game certainly deserved that GOTY award. I was waiting to play it on the Xbox as I like to be comfortable in long games like this where i can take my time. Find it hilarious that Swen forgot to tell everyone it was out on Xbox that day.

Great tip at the beginning of picking your character. Ignore all the “best class” videos, read through and pick your character based on what you think will be fun and cool for RP.

I normally wouldn’t have bought it but it’s seems like gaming gems are few and far between… especially early on.
Grasping the mechanics is a little overwhelming but since I’m get an ACL surgery this week I have nothing but time between physical therapy.

This has to be the best starter guide I’ve ever seen, thank you for your hard work in making this for all of us.
I just wanted to really thank you for this video. I know this must’ve taken a lot of time and effort to make and you clearly have a lot of love for the game and the lore and I’m grateful for the insight. But most especially for everything you said starting around 8:00. I was having the HARDEST time even beginning the game because with 0 prior knowledge I kept watching videos on the best builds. But none of them felt right for me. I knew in my mind a base of what I wanted to be and hearing you say that nothing is invalid or bad in this game helped me to have fun reading about each race and the history and picking what I wanted and which class I wanted and feeling good about it. I knew my first and maybe first few playthroughs would be on explorer and would be just for fun to explore the world, understand how the game works and how combat works. So it was nice to have that freedom to really feel like I could use whatever “build” I wanted to and just have fun. Whether it makes sense or not or will be good in combat or not. I genuinely am thankful for this video.

Personally as for difficulty I've been playing custom, with everything set to tactician save for character power. I like the extra health fluff. I also check every box near the bottom, it really gives mystery to the DC's for any skill checks in dialogue. I'm really glad they made a custom difficulty mode.

I FINALLY jumped into BG3. After just finishing my 3rd Elden Ring play through. Was up till 3 am with guides open tryna learn what to do while playing. Actually really enjoying the game so far. I used to play the pen and paper game. So somewhat familiar with most the terms. But guides most definitely help!

As always, I really enjoy your video's. I have been playing since early access, but even still there were parts of this vid that was a reminder of somethings that I may have knew about, but don't utilize as much as I should.
On a side note to the new comers (XBox players mainly). I would very much encourage to play through your first run somewhat blind. Explore and learn as you go without relaying on guides. I wish I could do my first run all over again. Once you do get into guides, this channel here is one of the better ones out there.

I am so happy I stumbled upon you. BG3 is the first game I bought after taking a break from gaming for 10 years! I got it because I heard BG3 was fantastic. However I have no D&D background and found getting started challenging. I went through many videos and yours was the first that my brain said "Hey! That makes sense!" - So I needed to let you know I appreciate your thorough explanations and guidance. I have subscribed! Now off to see if you can help me get to certain sections of the map! I cannot for life of me figure out how to get west of the crash site and north of the Goblin camp. Sigh. Thanks again!!

Great video. For trading you can also hold shift and highlight all the items you want that are in a row and drag and drop into the trade slots.
For stealing, if you get caught I'd recommend just going to jail and breaking out most of the time. There's always a way to escape jail and you just lose some attitude with the trader instead of possibly having to fight them after the first time where you do have the option to persuade/deceive your way out of it.
My favourite part of any of these videos is when Mr. Spartacus goes into the different role-playing possibilities….😂😂😂
I don’t need these particular tips because I understand the gameplay premise very well from playing DandD . I came for tips on how to physically control the game on Ps5. However, I was so impressed that you listed the concepts covered right up front, saving me a half hour of my life that I am subbing.

I'm a former Pathfinder 1E GM, and I do have a little bit of experience with D&D 5E, but I don't know it backwards and forwards the way I knew Pathfinder. New to this whole scene, after seeing some gameplay and it being awarded goty, decided to bite the bullet and give it a try. I can’t lie, I’m still a bit overwhelmed but nonetheless still excited to see where this journey takes me. If anyone has any tips or class builds, please, feel free to comment. Lmao I am in the same boat, I have absolutely zero D&D experience, so I’m as green as the first day in spring lol. I come from a pretty RPG eccentric, gaming background, but I am learning very quickly that this game is in a whole other level as far as the RPG aspect goes. I have always thought the idea of D&D was very interesting, but never knew anyone that played. Currently trying to get some friends to journey with me, but they seem a bit turned off by the intricacies and the fact of it being so complex.
Pillars of eternity was my first CRPG and I had to play on easy and didn’t know what was going on. Just keep playing and learning from mistakes. Don’t take things too seriously on the first play. That was my mistake.
Also don’t forget to short rest after combat encounters. Much better than blowing thru healing spells and items.

As someone who who has just bought this game recently for PS5 (and has never really played a DnD game before) this game can be quite overwhelming. This was quite a detailed guide and fairly easy for a beginner to understand though of course a lot of stuff I'll have to experience and try to learn/figure out for myself in order to get to grips with it all (and it's gonna take a while lol). That said in spite of the steep learning curve, I am having fun with it, hell even just spending time *CREATING* my character was fun (took me over an hour to get done lool). Thanks for taking the time to make this video, I'll be watching some more for sure. 👍

Also important to note for new players is the fact that even outside of turn based mode, turns still progress. This is important for status effects like poison or darkness that occur for a certain number of turns even outside of battle. You will need to keep this in mind especially in act 2
If it’s a potion, look for a countdown number overlayed I think bottom left corner. Not sure about poison.

Let’s just say I was scared about getting stuck at the end of act 2 so I found some spoilers. You think I can handle act 2 ending around level 6 if I play my cards right? Im paranoid because the Reddit threads were so many hardcore gaming sweats saying it was near impossible at level 8 characters

I have really bad OCD and there are too many options when it comes to race and multiclass that I have to choose a human fighter first of all I really love the human It’s simple and straightforward and same with the fighter once I start playing with my characters class I can’t help myself and I never stop if I’m a wizard I wanna play as a warrior when I’m playing as a warrior I wanna play as a wizard just like Skyrim that’s how I know I’m gonna be playing this game for years😊😢

I think that the great majority of players just play the game and don't know much about this, maybe after 10 years of D&D experience you start to really understand this.
I'm getting old and imagining to have to learn all this makes my hair get greyer minutes after minutes of listening to you.

Regarding spells, the ones that buff your allies are typically very strong if used correctly, and you don't need to make a roll for them to work! An additional advantage of spells that buff your party is that they can be cast just before the combat starts!
