    It always amazes me how easy you make it look, but it all comes down to years of experience, knowing how to use your diag equipment and good fault finding procedure. Yet again a great fix.

      AND good quality information regarding car diagrams etc. In south africa we do not have good quality software regarding car complete diagrams and so on.

      @koeniglicher 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      He only shows the successful diagnostic path afterwards and edits out all tests and checks that were likely performed but that did not contribute to the solution of the problem(s). This is nice due to its brevity and focus, but looks a bit "optimized". 😀 For example, the LIN bus signal to the PTC heater may also have been just an intermittent one, that looks good in some cases and under certain conditions, but looks bad once the conditions change, like temperature, humidity, vibration and so on. It is the same with the 12V feed wire and the broken fuse: a cable with a local insulation defect may occasionally touch a piece of metal (say on a bumpy road). Then it would blow the fuse again, even if it now seems to be working well. It is wise to take all the "Diagnose Dan fixed it again" triumphes with some caution and grain of salt. He is very good at what he does, but whether something really is a permanent fix, will sometimes need months and thousands of km to confirm on real-world road testing under several conditions. Especially with cars like this one with the large impact damage and a whole range of potential problems even after the repair.

    Dear Dan, I love your videos! It was a pleasant surprise to watch this particular episode as the in the first half of it you are dealing with those activators I happen to know pretty well. I am one of the engineers responsible for the production of those. On this model it is already clear at 4.10 that they have been used. The black riveted cap has a hole in the center and the metal piston is peaking out. At all of these and similar activators the plastic cover should be complete and undamaged in any way. Towards the car's electronics they are equivalent to a 2 Ohm resistor, if you ever want to check the integrity of the wire harness. You are also safe to measure the new activator with an Ohm-meter, should you be curious. It will not explode! :) Still, I strongly recommend - in order to eliminate any risk towards you and the part - to wear a safety glas and there is no eletrostatical voltage around. Please, note that some of these parts have a shorting bridge in their connector, especcially to protect the activator itself.

I'm a mechanic myself with twenty five years experience and from all my years in the trade I know that new cars are complex, but really with a good wiring diagram and knowing your pin outs and values they're not that more difficult than say older cars. No doubt about it, the technical aspects of your videos are absolutely awesome. As an old timer who used Sun oscilloscopes to diagnose and set up engines in the 70s and 80s, and later migrated into the computer industry, I am fascinated, even in awe of how far technology has come. And, like yourself, back then I had a reputation of being able to diagnose and repair anything that came my way, although those vehicles were clearly not as complex as they are today. I know how it is to get a car from another dealership, from a manufacturer an independent shop, or even a basket case from a DIYer. A lot of your approach in diagnosing a problem is much like I would follow back then, despite the relative simplicity at hand back then.
    I am now retired (2018), and have some really cool vintage 1973 Mustangs and 1969 Shelby GT500, and a 2020 Shelby GT500, to play with and help keep me busy. I spend a bit of time scouring various forums looking for fellow owners of First Generation Mustangs, Cougars, and Shelbys who need help or thoughts on diagnosing and repairing those machines from way back in the 60s and early 70s. I have a vintage Sun 1150 oscilloscope that I love to use with the old pony cars, and an old Sun VAT-40, along with some other instruments that were so popular back then (dwell meter, anyone?) - lots of fun. But, I decided to move into the modern world and see who might have newer scopes I can use with the older cars, as well as the 2020 Shelby - just for fun if no other reason. And to try to get something a bit smaller than the Sun 1150 unit on its large, full size3 mobile/rolling base.
    Wow! I can hardly believe so much really cool technology is out "there" to dig through, And some really cool forums and TH-cam Channels... I picked up a MicSig SATO 1004 Master Kit scope unit the other day, and have a 2204a PicoScope, for quick and dirt stuff, coming. Meanwhile, since it is Winter Hibernation season for the pony cars (Upstate NY, snow country), I am going to take the next few months to read about, watch various lessons and videos on, and learn as much as I can about how to use these digital scope units. And, I have ordered the parts needed to build a little "ignition lab" (for other somewhat related reasons). I figure by watching your TH-cam Channel, and some other also well known and respected channels and forums, I ought to be ready to "hit it hard" when Car Season 2023 comes. If nothing else I should by April, 20223, be familiar enough with the new equipment to not embarrass myself too much as I begin to hook them up and use them "for real."
    Okay, Dan, back to you... As much as I appreciate the content you share, and your demeanor when presenting your thoughts and diagnostic/repair approaches, what I think impresses me most is your ability to laugh (with us) at yourself as you put forth your little bloopers now and then. What terrific comic relief! It would not surprise me to see you take your "act" on the road, and try your hand at stand up comedy. You seems to have the chops for it, and already entertain to a pretty large group. And, in the event you don't think the world would accept a Car Guy as a comedian, I give you Jay Leno! I'm just sayin'...
    Kudos...

    If you know the car, and where to look for the problems, it goes easy.

    Dan you do an excellent job on your methodical approach to confirming the diagnosis. I can easily see why Bring Money Withyou cars are so expensive to maintain.

    Always like your approach to a fix. Should be a teacher. All your students would do great. I remember when in high school we had a teacher that use to sell vacuums door to door and he was great at it before coming a teacher. He was basically a salesman but a great teacher. In algebra class he had every student's undivided attention and even the kids that struggled with math got 80 percent in his class. Just saying not everyone has that ability, It's a gift and you have it. Stay safe.

    Definitely am going to subscribe to your website as soon as I get a chance, knowledgeable diagnostic people are so rare in this industry and I think it's really cool that you put together a website for learning system and diagnostic knowledge. You're an inspiration for sure

    Another great video! Nice for adding the clip explaining about messing with the SRS system. That is always a system that takes me a while to diagnose because I never want to trip the wrong thing off and always follow service info very closely.
    Great work!
