My family used to go in the 1960s to Crystal Springs. I was a little kid and one day I was swimming toward the sandy bottom and saw a rock inbedded in the sand, I reached under it and pulled out a perfect arrow head. What a wonderful place, what a great childhood memory.

ME TOO!!! We have a ton of artifacts from there. They used to allow camping, too!
Remember the nasty concession stand with the pinball machines?

We first used to explore the Lythia Springs as a young boy with my family where you could dive in the crystal clear depths of the mullet filled waters with white sandy bottom that led to an aquatic plant area and eventually out into the Alafia River where people had constructed rope swings you could swing out over the river on and dive into the deeper parts of the fish laden river or just tube down the river and then walk back up the many wooded trails to the pinic areas with their barbeque grills surronding the beautiful spring. That was back in the sixties when only the locals knew of this gorgeous spring and before the city caped off the spring for a source of drinking water. In those days I spent many a summer diving into the deep area of the spring where I found many a prehistoric fossilized dinosaur bone in that spring. Later when I grew and married we heard about Crystal Springs on the border of the northern edge of Hillsborough county. We traveled there with my young daughter and church friends spending many a spring and summer recreating on thedamned up spring enjoying picknicking with our friends and frolicking in the crystal clear cool waters with its sandy beach and little island areas. In those days the property was owned by a gracious christion farmer and land owner that required that there would be no ruff housing or bad language inorder to utilize the facilities posted on a billboard as you entered the park like area was the only requirement which we thorougly appreciated as we were young families with children. Very fond memories of a lovely setting in thr 80's.there were also foot paths along the river where the spring spilled out over the damn and into the river which ended up eventualy into the Hillsborogh River State Park area and down to Tampa.
