One thing you can generally say about Sims 2 players is that they are tech savy way beyond our age group, like the lengths I had to go through for just this game is more ellaborate than a typical PC user will ever get to..
Something to note: After installing there's a chance it may just boot straight into Windows and that's because the GRUB menu 26:50 is only available if Linux is booting up first. Simple fix really, all you need to do is go into your BIOS and change your boot order from Windows to say Mint :) The same goes for if you decide to uninstall, change it back to Windows or it will just come up with an error as there's nothing for GRUB to boot into :)

I will say I have seen pink flashing ONCE on Linux and it was when I was trying my absolute hardest to cause pink flashing deliberately in order to test out the boundaries. Combining unoptimized hood deco with huge textures, tons of CC trees, high detail lot imposters, big lots and view distance cheats (dontmergeNHflora & lotskirtsizeincrease 120) did it. There were probably other things I did that I don't remember. I was monitoring memory usage and on Linux, the pink only appeared when I was GENUINELY maxing out memory usage, whereas on Windows it happens much earlier. It was very hard to reach that point though, I have been playing on Linux since October and have NEVER seen pink flashing during normal gameplay with my usual CC folder. @@TeaAddict I can't remember the reason I got bottles, but the back up feature is really nice. Even if my system dies, I will never have to install the game again (technically). So to actualy get rid of pink soup… you need to get a whole new operating system? Is this the future of the sims 2? @kali6753 no problem. When you're ready, look up "how to format USB with windows command prompt" - I had to do this with a couple of people recently to create their boot drives too. Sleep well!
I got motivated during the holiday season to try Linux and all... I successfully installed Fedora 41 and Lutris and Wine and the Sims but my game just never opens. no idea why. I spent days on google but maybe my pc its way too old or not updated enough or something hardware related I just dont know
I'm really sad about it because I thought it would be a magical fix hahaha
I will not give up I'll just wait for another inspiration moment 😅
@@Lesli3 I can't help much with Fedora but I'd say 1) check your graphics drivers are okay, 2) make sure the wine prefix architecture is set to "auto" and 3) right click on the Sims 2 and say "show logs" and try to launch, see if it gives you any clues ❤️ hopefully you can get it sorted!!
a new video YAAAAYYY
Linux has saved my Sims 2 life!!!!
so pleased for you!
Weirdly enough I did the same thing last montth. I've got it running, but simspe i can't get going ... I'm using a virtualmachine for that.
@@AdamantGremlin nice! I talk about simPE in Step 5 bonus steps if you wanna skip to that chapter :)
@@TeaAddict yeah I use Bottles instead of Lutris for my sims game. I tried it in lutris and simpe did boot up, but still having a few issues.
@AdamantGremlin any particular reason you like bottles over Lutris? Am curious!
@@TeaAddict I can't remember the reason I got bottles, but the back up feature is really nice. Even if my system dies, I will never have to install the game again (technically).
I wish I had this guide when I was trying to first do it.
The reason I tried linux is because acottonsock lost her save, but someone suggested she try linux. She was also having trouble with pink flashing I think. On her windows pc it wasn't playable, but her friend with a linux system was able to get it going. Just like you and your old save. She however didn't want to try linux,, so she just made a new save.
@AdamantGremlin maybe I can convince ACottonSock to give a dual boot system a try 😅
Wait whattt different keyboard layouts? 😂
right lol. It does make sense when you think about it!
About to do dis on my newish laptop
@@meganmoon6197 good luck! Hopefully it goes well for you
So to actualy get rid of pink soup… you need to get a whole new operating system? Is this the future of the sims 2? To be honest i hope not cuz am not gonna buy a gaming laptop with a operating system just to download a other operating system just to make it playable.. 🤔 ill wait for awhile to check this one out… if you dont mind! I am happy for you that you got it to work. But am also second guessing this for the people who have the cracked version instead of the gifted one on orging from 2014.
Cracked version works perfectly fine on Linux, osab's installer that is used for Lutris is literally cracked as well. It wouldn't work without a crack and would demand that you install the EA app.
@@Plumulous hey Plum, you don't need to buy a whole new computer, and the OS is free 😊 in my case, I did decide to pay for a second SSD as I mention in the video so that I could install Linux into the same computer I already have. It cost me $80 and now I have an extra TB of storage in my PC, which will be handy even if I decide to go back to only Windows one day!
Absolutely no worries if you don't want to try this out, it's totally your call. This is here for people who want to try it ❤️
Also yeah this method uses an cracked version, just FYI. As always I think it is better to watch a video and see the information before forming too many opinions haha!
Would this work on an old laptop?
@@MrRuceba maybe, probably? Depends how old, what the specs are and and what stress load you put it under I guess 😁
If you can run the game on windows on that laptop, then yes. Most (if not all) Linux distros are less bloated than Windows, so they actually often run better on older PCs than Windows does.
@@TeaAddict ok so it actually worked. the game is installed and is loading. the laptop is so old so im sure it wont be amazing, but even so the fact its running at all and the fact i can use the internet with linux on this old laptop is fantastic thanks beth xo
@MrRuceba amazing!! Glad it has worked well for you!
@@TeaAddictI think I spoke to soon hahaha
So the game runs and as it’s loading in and creating the pets hobbies destinations etc
It just disappears and I have to open the game again, do you know why that would be?
Could it be the age of the laptop?
rumours have it they're releasing ts and ts2
@@rubusroo68 will believe that when I see it 😆😆 also I wonder if they would just re-release ultimate collection as is, or make any fixes/optimisations?
@@TeaAddict the rumor is that they will rerelease the games to fit modern Windows os
@monican5047 as I said, will believe it when I see it 😆 after the last few years I put basically zero hope or faith in EA
i'M SO EARLY 🤣
Early early!
