  • I give a tour of my newest apartment in Yangzhou, China. Yangzhou is a tier three, small city with cheap rent! This nice apartment only costs $350/month, a fraction of what it would cost in a big city like Shanghai or in other countries. I hope you enjoy the tour and some tidbits I share about cost of living and apartment hunting in China!

About the rent, it really depends on how you have found your apartment. I don't think you would get the best deal though if it was through an English ad. :) Back in the old days, Fridge was always in the living room as the close-door kitchen in those old-style Chinese apartments is too small for it. No dryer is a typical setup too. Hanging cloth to dry is an eyesore but environmentally friendly.

This apartment is in fact super nice in price, size, and view when comparing with apartments in Hong Kong. It probably costs you ten times the money in Hong Kong without the balcony or the view. Good for you living in Yangzhou. In Hong Kong we have a famous dish called Yangzhou Fried Rice 揚州炒飯, which is probably not found in Yangzhou 😁

350USD is fair, if you ever come to Nanjing or Suzhou, we may have a bear.
