Well the navy part is quite commical as the Hellenic navy bought all the dutch S-class frigates.

Greece has 9 frigates S-type from Netherlands, but also has 4 frigates MEKO (German design) 3 of which were built in Greek shipyards, 11 submarines 3 of which were built in Greece, 10 gunboats 8 of which were build in Greece (Greek design), 19 missile boats 16 of which were built in Greece (Greek design) and many more other ships (patrol, support, transport) built in Greece. Which is the comical part? That Netherlands has shipyards but not navy?

@@captaingreek True but the dutch have still a navy 4 advanced airdefence frigates balistic defence capable 2 m -frigates . 4 submarines , 2 LPD (amphiboius asault ships ) 1: 28.000 ton Combat suport ship. mine hunters , 4 Ocean patrol vessels . 3 coastal patroll ships . and 1 new suply ship under construction .
Then is there the admiralty benelux , where belgium , netherlands and luxemburg The benelux have one navy structure , adding 2 more M-class frigates. and several Mine hunters.
Even now there are building new Mine hunter vessels 80 meters long , Developing a new M-class frigate . for the admiralty benelux ( same concept as the S-class ) 144 meters long. to replace the current m-class and LCF frigates in the near future.
Dutch Saab and Damen are teaming up to build new replacement submarines for the walrus class. combining both nations tech nology ,expertise and experience.
The germans even have a dutch shipyard designing their new 10.000 ton SKS frigates.
Even now there is an inquery from the Hellenic navy to buy the remaining M-class frigates of the netherlands and belgium and even hopping on the new M-class frigates beeing designed and build for the Nethelands belgian navy .
So there are still a lot of ships around.

@@marcusfranconium3392 It was a figure of speech. I know the equipment of the Dutch Navy, but compared to the Greek Navy is much smaller. Especially if you take into consideration that Greece has almost half of Netherlands' population and that the last decade we have been very slow due to financial crisis. Our two biggest shipyards were working occasionally...But there is one more thing, even more weird. Our politicians love to buy from abroad because they have profit! At least that was the case for many years, and one ex Minister ended up in jail. So the Greek designs either die or are sold to other countries. What a shame....

@@captaingreek Treu the S-class was a verry succesfull hull design The first 2 that where under construction for the dutch navy where sold to greece . strait from the shipyard . So greece had them before the dutch navy, then 10 more S-class where build and 2 L-class ( airdefense ) variants to replace the 2 S-class sold to greece. A total of where build then the germans orderd 8 Bremen class frigates based on the S-Class hulls. so a total of 22 where build. Quite succesfull as they are still around after 40 years since its first design.
I served on 2 S-class frigates . both sold to Greece one Pieter Florisz that became the Bouboulina the other The last one sold was the Bloyes van Treslong . that became the Nikiforas Fokas. I loved these ships rugged easy to maintain and operate.
These days most nations work to gether to build and design new ships. If i where Greece i would jump in the new M-Class Frigate project as they want to use it as standard hull as the S-class ships , Capable to be adapted to fulflill multiple roles.
Example having the ASW version M-Frigate. Like we have now. but in a hull size simular to the LCF frigates 144 meter. so they can be adapted to LCF roles as well to replace the LCF frigates in due time. One hull fits all.
The more build the cheaper they become .

@@marcusfranconium3392 Yes, S-types are really good, maybe the best of their time. Now one of our shipyards cooperate with the Israeli shipyards for a new corvette and one Greek shipbuilding company is now in the Lockheed Martin group. I don't know what the heck they're going to build. I haven't read anything good about LM frigates.
