Sometimes, every couple months I come back to watch this video. After 5 years is still the best wetshaving video on youtube, everything is just perfect, the essential shave den (with few products chosen with years of practice I assume) and a perfect technique. My goal in shaving is to have just what I need, not the nowadays huge den, and 50% of that ability with a razor. Thanks for the video. Really
I remember watching this as a new DE and prospective straight shaver. I've been straight shaving only since around Feb-March this year. Looking at the video now I can appreciate it on a different level. I like the writing on the edge of the spine.
Agreed the sponge idea is very neat idea and can't wait to try it out. I also love that razor case nice and sealed, throw a couple silicon packets in there to absorb any moisture and you don't have to worry at all about rust on your blades. Which by the way are gorgeous :) Great skin stretching technique as well a very nicely made video
Perfect was the last pass upwards to the nose. Some cowards call it 'fool's pass' yet for me, this is a master pass of all the straight razor shaving methods... Congratulations on your intact nose;-) - with my all respect !
Thank you so much for your video. You provided great insight on using a straight razor. I am ready to move up from my DE shaver and found your video to be one of the most helpful.
One bowl contains the shaving soap, and the larger bowl keeps the lather warm. The water jacket where he dips the brush extends below where the lather is mixed.
Sir, thank you so much for this excellent video, it is very instructional. Can you tell me why you use the opposite side hand to shave? I'm a newbie and it seems using the right hand to shave right cheek and vice versa is the basic pattern I read about but your technique is superb. thanks in advance mark
If his hair was black im sure you would see his wiskers on the sponge. Obviously the guy has some experience with a straight razor. Practice makes perfect, like this gentlemen! Great video on something we straight shavers can all strive for.
Excellent video; great tutorial, too. Everything is very elegant. I've seen quite a bit of similar videos, but no one nowhere explains or shows how to find the right angle. After several pretty severe cuts I'm about to give up, but would like to hear from you, Dov, your suggestion on my angle issue. Or is it just go on practicing? Thank you. Ilya
This is the best shaving video on youtube, hands down. Where did you get that scuttle? It's exactly what I'm looking for but I can't seem to find one quite like it.
Hi. Just wanted to say this is a great instructional video. Could you please tell me what type of razor you are using and where i can get the skuttle you are using ? Thank you very much sir
Wich size is your straight razors? 5/8 or 6/8? Wich carbon steel use from Thiers-Issard? C135 carbonsongs or "historic" or Le Grelot? The grind type is full hollow or half hollow? Thanks.
@Eninety2 Thiers-Issard has his set on there web site if I remember correctly. It is a custom set with the days of the week in italian. The reason for 7 razors is you have a freshly honed blade everyday.Don't know about the aftershave he used. You can find this video on badger and blade.com with all his comments on it.
@yaisum It is 7day set Every straight razor is engraved with the day of the week In this case, days are in italian language (Domenica/Sunday, you can see at minute 1,35 ) you can order from this, but is too expensive 3000 euro
Can you tell me why you have more than one razor? I understand that they are beautiful things to collect, but all the ones in your holder seem to be the same. Do they have different blades or something? Very nice video, too.
Me ha encantado su vídeo, es perfecto para depurar la técnica de afeitado,he podido aprender su técnica de rebanado con la hoja deslizándose sobre la piel como puedo ver, muchas gracias por compartir el vídeo.
The video quality does not do this shave justice unless you skip a day. Shaving with a straight is like playing American football without a facebar on your helmet. This is not easy. You have to maintain the sharpness of the blade, maintain the right angle and light pressure so you cut the whiskers and not your skin. The reward is a closer, comfortable shave and for those of us who persevered to learn a feeling of accomplishment and enjoying something that was previously a chore. Chimensch
More shaving surface and, if honed correctly, a sharper, heavier and more aggressive shave. No matter what you shave with shaving against the grain will always get you closer.
Fantastic video. What size Schwarzweisskeramik scuttle? S, L, XL? I want to order one but it seems like the only outlet is in Germany. Where did you order yours from? Thanks Ray
couple of question: 1. how much do those razors run? 2.what was it that you applied to your face after finishing? Looked like a Truffit & Hill. 3. any reason for having 5 razors?
Could you please tell me the brand of shaving brush and the soap that you are using in this video? I read all the comments but they haven't been mentioned. Thank you sir, you're the best.
I had asked him before about the soap and it is Cella in the kilo brick. The brush says DUKE on it so I'm going to make an educated guess that it is a Simpson.
You can tell by the.sound of the razor moving across the face that there's some real hair popping shaving going on. I learned how to do it from studying. this video.
I am a follow member on B&B and also on SRP, Thanks for the video, it's great! Awesome quality, are you using a steep angle on this shave? Angle has been something I've struggled with since I have started.
@THEFRANKLINFILM nah, it only takes me about 10 minutes. Sure, its a lot longer than whipping a mach 3 around, but it's a much more enjoyable experience, a better shave, and certainly not an hours time.

One of the classiest straight razor shave videos iv'e seen on TH-cam yet. By the way, great idea with the sponge in the sink! I must try that!
This is just one of the best straight shaving vids ever. I have watched it at least 10 times.
Best shave video on TH-cam. Watch it every ounce in a while when I feel my technique lacking
Still my favorite shaver and role model after three years of straight razor shaving. I've watched this video literally hundreds of times.
I remember watching this as a new DE and prospective straight shaver. I've been straight shaving only since around Feb-March this year. Looking at the video now I can appreciate it on a different level. I like the writing on the edge of the spine.
this is the absolute best straight shave video out there
Agreed the sponge idea is very neat idea and can't wait to try it out.

My last comment was cut off at the end. I wanted to say that Chimensch has helped me with my shaving through this video more than anyone else.
Thank you so much for your video. You provided great insight on using a straight razor. I am ready to move up from my DE shaver and found your video to be one of the most helpful.
Thanks for the video. I bought my first straight razor last week - your technique/finesse is something to aim for.
Really like the sponge in the sink, great idea!
IMO your the best straight shaver ive watched...
One bowl contains the shaving soap, and the larger bowl keeps the lather warm. The water jacket where he dips the brush extends below where the lather is mixed.
This guy got me over the hump by example. I have been watching this video regularly 7 years.

Sir, are you that professional in all the aspects of your life? No one an dislike this video.
Awesome - need that sponge! Was a missing piece of my shaves!
Watching this video is an absolute pleasure. I would watch your videos every day if you made more. True master.
love this video. wonder what stones are used to hone that razor. man does that cut like butter
If his hair was black im sure you would see his wiskers on the sponge. Obviously the guy has some experience with a straight razor. Practice makes perfect, like this gentlemen! Great video on something we straight shavers can all strive for.
wonderful example on proper skin stretching. my face is always slippery after my pass so its hard to get a grip and stretch properly.
Excellent video; great tutorial, too. Everything is very elegant.

Thanks for the video. Using a technique I learned here I have solved a problem area of shaving that I had given up on ever getting right.
Great video! I've watched it alot as im just getting into straight razor shaving!
Miglior video sulla rasatura con rasoio a ML. Complimenti.
This video motivated me to get the same scuttle, use the sponge and the alum block
The scuttle is a schwarzweisskeramik
Razor is LeGrelot brand made by Thiers Issard. 6/8, ivory scales. Day of the week in Italian on the spine.
Wich size is your straight razors? 5/8 or 6/8? Wich carbon steel use from Thiers-Issard? C135 carbonsongs or "historic" or Le Grelot? The grind type is full hollow or half hollow?

The sponge and Alum block is pure genius.

i see there is one coticule, may you tell me the other three?
kind regards
that sponge is a great idea. I'm going to use it in my everyday routine as well. Cheers.
Gotta say of everything in this video, that bowl and his skills are what I want the most.
More shaving surface and, if honed correctly, a sharper, heavier and more aggressive shave. No matter what you shave with shaving against the grain will always get you closer.

Is that an Iyoto nagura i see in your cabinet?

I belive it is a durance. That handle doesn't look like a duke to me.
Un maestro . . . . e poi ha anche il settimanale che sto cercando io.

Love the sponge idea... never thought of that... nice one, thanks
Would you say the SWK scuttle can handle a 27mm+ size brush for lathering in?
Are there any more videos of him?
you should do some more shave videos!
Why the final strop?
Thank you for this video
I have learned a lot from it 😃
Proper craftsmanship!
I don't understand why he you were lathering with two separate bowls?

@THEFRANKLINFILM nah, it only takes me about 10 minutes. Sure, its a lot longer than whipping a mach 3 around, but it's a much more enjoyable experience, a better shave, and certainly not an hours time.
It has been said, he only shaves once every year.
You have quite an original way of handling your straight razor, but - hey! - if that works for you. Shave on!
Nicely done
