I'm astounded by how quiet it must be around the building, you don't hear any outside noise at all. It's the exact opposite of the Indian barber videos but it's nice to have both, very much a display of culture.
I love watching old masters of their craft work, no matter the craft. Especially the Japanese have such a swiftness and dedication to their profession...
there is something very special about this gentleman at work, my only regret is i will never manage to see his work first-hand before he retires, beautiful work

He is showering you with the affection and care that a doting grandfather would typically show to their grandchild, but he expresses it through his role as a barber.
This is how a barber shop should be no feeling of being rushed and no music coming from a cheap speaker or radio just the sound of a ticking clock such a professional at work makes the whole process look like an art form

Just beware that a good majority of the people there are xenophobic. Not racist (unless you're another Asian) but they do not care for foreigners. They'll be nice in the bigger cities especially if you're buying something but the outskirts/countryside are a different story. Lived there for 2 years due to work, great place to visit just be ready.

On my days off, I binge watch my favorite television programming, and your videos! Your videos even lower my blood pressure. If you're ever in the US and in Atlanta Georgia, like a meet & greet situation, I would be there to meet you, listen to interesting stories of the great locations and barbers you've met. Having lived in Japan for almost 12 years, I have to say, the Japanese take their crafts and the service to the max. Bar none the best service provided. Everywhere.
I haven't had the pleasure to experience one in person, but from youtube videos, the Japanese barber culture has always seemed so interesting to me. It was an absolute delight to watch this.
It’s called a straight razor before we had the razors we have now ( 🪒 for reference in case someone needs further clarification ) we had these. They were essentially an incredibly sharp knife (when combined with the shaving cream) it could glide over the skin but still get the hair. Of course this implies that the user did this correctly.
Whats that second shave blade type he is using? i have never seen something like it! Its the japanese version of a safety razor? I have been following you for more than a year now and you are by far the best ASMR channel right now. Thanks for your high quality barbers you visit and the high quality videos you make out of them!
I always love reading your descriptions! They have a wealth of info...how else would I learn there is a National Shaving Mug Collectors Association! I bet y'all had some amazing conversations seeing as he's also traveled visiting barbershops. Great video Harry!
Japanese barbershops really are on a mother level. Would do some similar to this once a month to spoil myself but the other 3 weeks was one right off base and for 1000 yen (including tip) I still got a great cut, steam hot towel and a 5 minute massage. Absolutely best haircuts of my life
Haven't checked in much lately, Harry...but, I enjoyed this one. This must've been one of the closest shaves you ever had. The gentleman kept at it. Very meticulous.
