    I bought a new 2012 Chevy Sonic 1.4T w/ a 6 speed manual. I loved driving it, but at 65,000 miles, it was an oil burner, and I needed a truck for my business, so I traded it in. What I notice now 11 years later is how few Sonic and Cruze turbos are still on the road. Virtually every one you see now is the naturally aspirated version.

    Another great video and heads up on cars to avoid . Sadly a lot of folks lease these cars for 3 yrs and just drive them until the rubber wears out . That leaves the next customer with a time bomb . Plus the manufacturers extending oil intervals . This ensures their shops are busy changing parts down the road .
    I’m surprised that these dealers let you into their lot badmouthing the cars on the front line for sale lol.
    Great video thumbs up 4 sure .

In the meantime it started leaking /burning oil real bad before 50,000 miles. It was fixed under warranty.. a little while down the road the transmission went out.. There are endless of these cars with the m272 engine with around 200.000 miles for sale in Germany...
    Its the early ones, mainly before 2007, that could have the problem with the balance shaft sprocket.. that wore the chain out. Else there seem to be about 0 problems with those engines as long as serviced.

    The 2.0 T engine with VW/Audi has been a problem for awhile. These engines were recalled back in 2012 for timing chain tensioner problems. Beyond that they have fuel pump issues, oil leaks, faulty intake manifolds, ignitiin coils. fuel injectors etc. It s 2023 and VW is still producing engines wuth the same problems.

      I sold it and got a Toyota RAV4. I’m relaxed now. I can sleep better at nights.

    Nice video/content as always!
    I’ve owned a w164 ml350 naturally aspirated v6 engine but I’ve gave up! Not just because of the engine ( with just 54000miles on it) but with thermostat always open issue, trunk latch not closing, electric lights not working, hid ballast (located under the headlight, need to remove the bumper to access it wth) sunroof water leaking, SRS sensor and lot more issues like a boss leveling up!!
    Btw I’ve did everything possible to maintain it! Tracked all my oils, engine filter, sparks, you name it!
    Some channel still promote viewers to buy it lol! Money pit with a lot of pain in the rear end! Unlucky.. maybe? But I will never recommend or buy another one.
    Thank you as always, just want to share my experience!

    Only one correction. Yes, the 3 valve 5.4 triton was not good, but that was 2004 to 2010 on the F150. The 1997 to 2003 2 valve were actually a really solid engine (other than spark plugs popping out on some of them early on). Ford screwed up royally when they re-designed it.

    As with all engines, sometimes you can just get lucky. I've driven a 1.4L turbo eco in a 2017 Chevy Cruze from new and never had a problem with it. And I've not been kind to it either, it's been driven hard. Currently has over 185,000 kms on it and doesn't show any signs of giving up the ghost just yet. Again, sometimes you just get lucky.

  • @AvengerAngel
    @AvengerAngel ปีที่แล้ว +9

    With the manufacturer's marketing gimmick of 10K to 15k oil change intervals, expect these engines to crap out at 60,000. The "recommended" intervals of the long extended oil changes will get you through the average 3-4 year factory warranty, and the engineers know this. And good luck afterward when your extended warranty company micromanages your maintenance and service to deny repairs. That said, the German engineering fan boys who will bring a strawman argument in their quest as Lexus (Toyota) haters should be weighing in any time now, with their "I had a BWM such and such and it lasted nine million miles with no issues". Even meticulous maintenance on those cheap and chintzy designed, but high tech German, plastic laden abortions on wheels won't bring you to 75K mi.

    • @ECPP
      @ECPP  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are right, it’s a marketing gimmick and whe. A customer buys the idea of the all included maintenance it just means they spend less money with less oil services

    • @AvengerAngel
      @AvengerAngel ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Of course, if you change your oil every 4-5K mi. to save your engine, you can then pray that your "sealed transmission" that never needs a fluid change won't get you in the wallet. And if you are insane enough to buy, say a Nissan, with a CVT transmission you can roll the dice between the 60k engine failure or an accompanying transmission failure. "Which ever comes first"@@ECPP

($4000.???), from day one. I even have full roadside assistance. Anything with a plastic engine cover gets my attention especially if it is turbocharged!!!🤤 It has all offraod packages, including the lift package, and towing package with a 7,700lb payload!!! With all that comfort inside, I need a mechanic to stand outside with a lube gun, and an engine code reader!!! It is a who** house on wheels, and it gets 36mpg!!! (Hwy) 28mpg city. I would hate to have to tow it to a salvage yard!!!

    I had a 2005 F150 and no issues when we pick it up at 120,000 miles till 220,000 when it got into a 3 car accident. then we took the insurance check of 8,000 to buy a 09 F150 king Ranch at 160,000. Today we are sitting at 242,000 miles and no issues to the trimming or spark plugs . the biggest problem we had is the AC system. having to remove the dash board $$$$$$$
    when we purchased the 09, a yr later the dash board had to be removed. fast forward to 3 yrs later, they are wanting to remove the dash board again to replace the E vapor so the AC system will work 100%
    we did not move forward on the dashboard . waiting to save more money. if it makes it to next summer, we will have it replace. till then, work with what we have
    other then that. FORD has been a good working truck in our family. we normal get about 100,000 to 200,000 miles out of them till its too old or gets in a accident . which every comes first

I have a 2006 F150 in New Zealand I inherited from my father when he passed away. The truck has done 208000 miles so far with no engine problems. It has always had the oil changed every 6000 miles with 5w30 synthetic. Hopefully it continues to run for another 200000 without issue. I also have a 2008 c250 Mercedes with a 2.5 m272 v6 it has done 57000 miles with no issues the engine is always serviced every 6000 miles also or yearly whatever comes first. Hopefully this continues to be a good car too. Keep up the great videos.

    You are right about they don't make them like they used to. I bought a brand new 2022 Mercedes a 220 with 0.3 miles on the clock. I drove it off the lot to take it home. And the engine self-destructed and caught fire and exploded before I even made it out of the dealership at 0.7 miles. I asked the dealer what happened, he said. Well, they just don't make him like they used to,and said. Let's come back and get you a new Mercedes. So I thought I would give it one more chance. And the next one did the same thing this time. At point 4 miles and still didn't make it out of the dealership. And he tried to sell me a third Mercedes after that the same day.

    Tiguan you are showing comes with a 3rd generation EA888 engine paired with an 8 speed automatic from Toyota/Lexus AISIN AWF8F35, same gearbox that you get in Lexus RX and Toyota RAV4. The EA888 3rd generation engine is very reliable and can last long. The problem was with previous EA888 generation engines. Gearbox, it’s from Toyota, need I say more?

    • @ECPP
      @ECPP  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much but even Toyota as reliable as they are are not necessarily the best in the trans department. Engines are stout and cheap to fix

    • @zedzedski7382
      @zedzedski7382 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ECPP That gearbox has been around for 10 years on many cars and first time used was on Lexus RX. There has been nothing wrong with this gearbox in a decade. With that said, there are no reports or issues with that gearbox on Tiguan as well. Moreover, as I said the 2nd gen Tiguan has an 3rd generation EA888 engine that is a very reliable engine and will last quite a while without issues if maintained properly. I've seen plenty of those engines running at 400k+ km. Now, the most common issues on those Tiguans are water pump failure, oil burning issues, and more specifically for 2022 and 2023 year models steering wheel module failure, which also has a recall.

Bf that it was the 2 valve & 4 valve 5.4’s…… the 3 valve is junk, my wife’s navigator timing failed at 130k…… however the 2 valve & 4 valve variants of that engine are bullet proof…… my f250 2valve work truck is pushing 300k & still runs like new….. u are correct on the 3 valve, but wrong on the manufacture yrs….. 3valve started production in ‘04

      I agree! They're also unsafe to drive here in dull, dark, perpetually overcast Ohio, because gray cars blend right into the roads, the sky on the distant horizon, and the overcast background in certain midwest and northeast states, making them virtually impossible to see until it's too late and someone plows into you, even with the daytime running lights on and working properly. I know, because I once had a dark gray car, and I was hit three times in as many years by other drivers, and they always told the police the same thing: "I just did not see him at all, the car came out of nowhere." Never again will I own a gray car of any shade.
