Love my ‘21 CRV Hybrid - I bought a Modern Spare tire kit for road trips up the 395 in California. Around town I won’t need it, since there’s a tire store practically every square mile. Not a deal breaker for me.
Sure, if you stay in or near cities you should be ok and able to call AAA if your kit does not work. I go off the beaten path so that won't work for me.
My 2022 AWD CRV gets fair mileage. 33 to 35 mpg if I'm lucky. As far as the spare tire goes, last week I hit something on the road and ended up using the inflate device. It did fix the flat. I then found the tire was not repairable. So, with 10,000 miles on the tire, I spent $170 for a new tire. Since I'd used the inflate device, I needed a replacement for the sealant. The dealer said sorry, 4 months back order and it cost $130.00. As far as the CRV goes, I'm not happy with it. The electronics don't seem to work as well as my old 2013 CRV did. If I had to do this again, I'd buy a Toyota Highlander Hybrid. We have a 2021 Hybrid and it's great. Equal to or better mileage than the CRV, it's much bigger, rides better and it has a SPARE TIRE!
I have a 2015 and a 2019 CRV. The vehicles themselves work reliably, but like you, I really don't care for their electronics. Honda seems to struggle with this - and the electronics are the simpler components of a car to get right. I travel a lot and rent a lot of different cars. None of them seem to struggle with bluetooth connectivity or media useability as much as Honda does.
Thanks to this video I just found out the Honda CRV Hybrid does not include a spare tire/kit. THAT is a deal breaker for me. Honda loses a life long fan. Luckily the Toyota RAV4 hybrid retains the spare tire. Switching reluctantly to Toyota.
Just finished fabrication of a shelf that is just high enough that an oem/ doughnut or modern spare “spare” tire fits underneath, used cargo liner to trace shape onto piece of cardboard mock-up, then once tweaked transfered shape onto 3/16 thick hardboard from Home Depot, used headliner glue to attach rubber top, dence foam for legs and finished edge with rubber edge trim from Amazon, about $100 in materials and couple hours of labor and spare tire problem fixed with only approximately 7” lost on depth of rear cargo area
I have the regular CRV, but turned down the hybrid as here in the desert, a senior like me doesn't want to be caught without a spare tire. I'll consider the 2023 CRV hybrid, but only if it has a spare.
I did not know this when I bought a used CRV; I wish I had known, as I had to pay $550$ to have my vehicle towed home and, two weeks later, had another nail puncture. Fortunately, with the second puncture, the tire did not go flat, and I was home and could take it in for a plug. I travel a lot, so not having a spare is not a good thing, so I went to a salvage yard and bought one that fits. I carry a dog kennel in the cargo space of my vehicle, so now I have to drive with the back seat down, eliminating the ability to carry passengers. I tried to put it behind the passenger seat but the front seat must be moved forward
IIRC, the UK version of the CRV has a spare tire. Somehow they fitted it into the underside of the trunk space. You could probably do it but you’d have to buy all of the trim and parts from a UK Honda dealer.
Don't use tire sealant some shops won't patch your tire if you roll in with it because it's a pain in the axx clean and it's not really worth the trouble just pump it up with air and try to get to a tire shop asap
When my tire blew apart on the highway, leaving the rim and 20% of the tire left, I just got out the repair kit, and….. Bammm! The repair kit fixed the tire. I was happily on my way.
I lost interest in the CRV hybrid and Corolla Cross hybrid because they don't have a spare tire. I go camping and travel on mountain roads, so a spare is mandatory. The KIA Sportage hybrid, Rav4 hybrid, and the Mazda CX-50 hybrid all have spare tires.
Why does it say you cant air up a wheel that you plugged/repaired? Im going to get a plug kit but if this inflator works as a pump id rather not have to buy that as well.
I’m not sure why it says that, I am not familiar with the disclaimers but the inflator should work as a pump, I believe it has 2 modes. I would have a good roadside plan like AAA.
What an awkward feeling to be getting excited at the prospect of having a spare tire engineered into the design of a vehicle in the year 2023. What an awkward feeling it will be if Honda again drops including a spare tire in the redesigned model in the year 2023.
Jack Assembly, Pantograph - Honda (89310-S3V-A04) is the part number for the jack in the non-hybrid version CRV. The hybrid does not come with a jack. Oddly, the UK version of the CRV does come with a jack and tool kit but no spare tire. The entire storage compartment is modified but those parts aren't available in the US, you would have to buy them from a U.K. based dealer.
@@KiwiBrowne You're best off by talking to the parts department at Honda. The Hybrid version doesn't have a location to store the jack and is usually listed as a sperate vehicle from the regular hybrid which is probably why Amazon is saying it doesn't fit.
Carry a flat tire kit that carries the rawhide plugs, glue, and handle rod to insert in the puncture hole, along with a needle nose plyer. You can see video demonstrations of plugging a leak on TH-cam without having to jack the car up. Even when I had spare tires, I could repair a tire going flat faster than it would take to try to mount the spare tire. Yes, you better have a good 12V airpump.
Thank you Richard - I’ll check out the video so I’m prepared for a road trip issue. Ever since I hit a coyote at dusk on the 395, I’ve realized ANYTHING can happen in the middle of nowhere… better be prepared! We feel so safe in our vehicles, we don’t think ahead…
I wouldn't recommend installing a spare in the empty trunk space even if it fits because, if there is a rear ending situation, the tire can be pushed into the battery (as seen at 0:34). This can damage the battery, dislodge it or the wires. So many things can go wrong and someone can get electrocuted. The next generation of the CRV hybrid is supposed to address this.
We were convinced by the saleswoman this was the latest and greatest and everyone was doing it. Got stranded on an Utah highway. This sealant did not work. Tow guy said, "Yeah, they never do." Apparently we weren't the only ones with issues of this. Had to spend an overnight hotel because it was early evening. Cost us about $500 in total. The dealer was unresponsive to us when we asked how do we get a real spare tire. I would not recommend Honda to anyone. This is a ridiculous solution that I wish I had thought out more before we bought.
after having a crv in 2021 i never really looked for the spare until i thought about it now and search for a vid. TY😁❤️

Not a deal breaker for me.
Good idea.. Will take up some storage on the trip.. But 👍🏿

Glad I could help!
You also get free road side for 3 years with Honda! Most people only keep the car for three year usually.
Rav4 only uses a "temporary spare tire" what is equally useless
Good luck. Rav-4 is not as reliable and does not hold up its value over time as the CRV. You just took a massive L’ 😂😂😂
Rav4 transmission sucks, you'll get whiplash when you accelerate really hard due to the 8 speed transmission.

Awesome! That sounds like a great idea and good insurance to have just for 7".
👍🏿

The 2023 should be out in a few months, I hope it has a spare as well!
I have a 2024 hybird crv still no spare tire.

That is a good point, if the puncture is small enough there is no need to gum up the inside of a tire.
When my tire blew apart on the highway, leaving the rim and 20% of the tire left, I just got out the repair kit, and…..
Bammm! The repair kit fixed the tire. I was happily on my way.
😂
🤣🤓 magic in a can
Does the repair kit work on argumentative spouse too?
Bullshit
It’s 2024 and the redesigned CRV hybrid still doesn’t have a spare. So much for predictions.

That's the rumor, we'll see. It seems having no spares is becoming more common in vehicles these days. Better have good road side coverage!
Well, the 2023 CR-V hybrid DOES NOT have a spare tire. Whoops.
What most car have nowadays is a temporary spare tire, having a fix a flat kit, is the same, 50 mph for a max of 50 milles
You can add 2023 CR-V hybrid to your list too.
That's a shame and thank you for the update!
And the 2024. I just got mine yesterday but truth be told, I’m not that worried about it.
And the 2025 CR-V Hybrid
This is definitely a deal breaker for me. I have had too many flats in remote locations with no cell service.
Driving on a rim will only get you so far and that will be very expensive.
What kind of jack should I purchase for my hybrid 2022 ?

@@OwenLucas Can you recommend a jack from amazon for me? Thanks
@@KiwiBrowne I'd stick with Honda, they are specially designed for the vehicle.
@@OwenLucas Thanks, I just checked that part number on amazon and they say it doesn't fit my car so am a bit confused.

Hi Richard, can you give me a link for this kit you speak of? Thank you.
Who says they are rawhide😁😁😁
I do the same with all my cars.👍🏿 Done it so much.. Family started calling me.. Those with no mechanical knowledge
So the pump that it comes with isnt usable? I know on the video he says you cant air up a repaired wheel. But that doesnt really make sense why not
Let's hear from other Honda owners on how to mount a spare tire on these cars you've heard the term if there's a will there's a way

What about roof basket w spare tire!
Unbelievable that they can sell cars without a spare. Had to get mine towed today. Now l feel l can't drive anywhere due to fear if being stranded

🤣🤣 awesome sales lady 🤣💩
the 2018 Civic does not have a spare either.
2024 still no spare tire. It was a bit of a disappointment, but we still bought the vehicle.
Even without the spare, it’s a great vehicle. No issues what’s over other than minor recalls, which all vehicles have nowadays. Congratulations!
Who the hrll is going tobuy a car with no spare?
No spare is sheer lunacy
Many new cars today lack a spare tire. Seems to be an industry trend.
Most drivers have AAA and an get a spare that way
Confirmed no spare tire in the 2023 model
Thank you Sir! Honda redesigned the vehicle from the ground up and didn’t make room for spare, what a shame.
In 2024, redesigned but still no spare tire, what a shame
I just get a 2025 CR-V Hybrid last month and still no spare tire.
Bye Bye Honda… we have over 300 members in our auto club… we’ wrote off Honda due to this a year ago.
2024 still doesn’t have a spare tire.
Ugh, that's t0 bad. I've seen the new CRV on the road but no hybrids yet.
Big Honda mistake!!
2025 has no spare tire
That’s too bad!
Pathetic. Still no spare in the current generation.
That is unfortunate. The vehicle was completely redesigned, maybe they went with a bigger battery 🤔.
Simply ridiculous, and a step back in functionally
The new model doesn’t have a spare tire either.
