Something about these recordings, I feel like I'm getting a real taste of what she actually sounded like in the hall and am a little emotional about it, she's just so amazing.
@metropolitan1966 A-men. I remember sitting in one of those crevices in a hugh hall in New Jersey and having her send pianissimi up there that I swore were meant just for me alone. It was a heavenly experience that I will NEVER forget
This was another incredible performance and obviously, an encore. I heard Ms. Price three times in recital (1974, 1976, & 1991) and never heard this aria as an encore. I am constantly amazed at how she knew EXACTLY what she was doing with her voice, and how she wanted to sing.
Signore ascolta. One of my favorite recordings of her. But this recording is even more chilling. Thank you for these posts! Even though they make me cry...
I agree with you 100%. I heard her at the Met with Giacomini and I have never again since then heard any singer come close to the sound that she produced. It was just as you have said, "No recording can capture the feeling and impression of her sound. It went into every crevice and corner of those buildings"
Is this the recital she did at UT in the middle 80’s. I was at that concert...unreal. I was a graduate voice student at that time. David Garvey is accompanying her. I coached with him as a graduate student.
Thomas Brown What year was this my friend? My wife & I saw MADAME PRICE twice 1975 & 1985 right after she had retired from the OPERA STAGE. When we saw MADAME PRICE IN 1975 My Dear Mom & Dad & my wifes best friend June Mollere felt as though that we had been transported to OPERA Heaven. It's was truly privileged experience. My Dad DANIEL in particular got teary eyed because just like me SINGING IS LIKE BREATHING. MADAME PRICE GRACED US WITH HER PRESENCE FOR 2 HOURS. MADAME PRICE SANG 3 ENCORES. After the SRO concert we went out for dessert & my DAD and I continued to speak about what we felt was an outer body experience. My dad stated "not since your mother I saw the Great Zinka Milanov have we ever heard such incrdible BEAUTIFUL VOICE MY SON" My Dad knew OPERA like the back of his hand. He was a very giving, kind, gentle, intelligent HUSBAND & FATHER that when OUR DEAR BEATIFUL DAUGHTER DANIELLE. FELL ASLEEP IN DEATH @ the tender age of 31.that I truly realized what an incredible FATHER I had. TY you my friend for listening to a small chapter of my life story. There are no words! This was such a beautiful voice! Such control, expansiveness and luxuriousness! ( Think I just created that word but she deserves it! Words aren't enough.... )
babka22 I had the privilege and distinct honour of serving as her LD and stage manager for a recital she gave at Proctors' Theatre in Schenectady NY. She is the most regal woman I have ever known - and that's when she's not in character. Put her into Aida and it's as if she has gained even more stature than she had in the first place. She truly was and is the Prima Dona Assoluta of the Opera. After all was said and done after the recital, Miss Tyne signed one of her photos for me. " To Miss Eileen, who runs a tight ship. BRAVA and many thanks - Love, Leontyne Price I thought I'd died and gone to heaven! I've never received a higher compliment. BRAVA forever Miss Tyne!!

HAPPY LIFE ANNIVERSARY Miss Leontyne Price!
The Grand Soprano is 89 today, 2/10/16.
The Voice Of God is Everlasting.
I'd pay top dollar just to hear her read the names out of a telephone book!
Leontyne Price!!! What an American treasure! Exquisite control! Astounding power & Brilliant sound! God has truly blessed this remarkable woman!!!
Un grande soprano drammatico, con tutti i registri eccellenti e gli acuti prorompenti. Una cantante da ascoltare sempre, con profonda attenzione
At the height of her powers Phrasing is flawless as is the interpretation. Simply sublime!

I love Price in so many things, but she's too mature and powerful in Liu's aria for my taste. She's stunning, though.
Is beautiful but i'm sorry in this area the to was, is, and will for ever Renata Tebaldi
are you sure you don't mean Lady Ga Ga?
@@unclelouie3828 😂😂😂😂😂
Tebaldi had a beautiful voice, but she was not always in tune.

Gorgeous. But too fast and... no soul, no Liu...
