This is the best shotgun video I have ever seen in my life on TH-cam. Congratulations sir you must be a professional actor because you are outstanding and knowledgeable
Five years after this review and you are still helping people out! I called Stoeger today to find out how to adjust my comb and they had no idea! Very helpful and knowledgeable but not on that question. Yours is the first source that demonstrates how to adjust comb and cast, thank you! I bought a cylinder and skeet extended Carlson's chokes and shot sporting clays yesterday for the first time. Well you are absolutely right, the weight of the gun is a huge plus, I don't need shoulder padding at all. Thank you again.
For what it's worth, I just sent my Condor Competition in for repairs. I've had it for about 7-8 years, not sure how many rounds I put through it. I had a firing pin fail to spring back which would scrape across the back of the shell causing it to be difficult to open the gun. The decorative bands that hide the gap between the barrels also came un-soldered from the barrels. Stoeger customer service has been outstanding so far and is covering the repairs, no questions asked. Hoping to have it back soon. Other than those issues, it's been a great clays gun.
Good job. I like vids like this where the reviewer is talking to us, not talking down to us. Easy to understand. A little long, but very good. Good camera work. Another tip re oil v. grease - grease goes on parts that slide against each other; oil where you want it to migrate or penetrate.
The Condor Competition seems to be one of the best entry level shotguns for clays. There are other good autoloaders, but a lot of them are better suited for hunting real birds rather than clay ones (like the SA-08). I think the Condor strikes the best balance between having right features for a target gun and a decent price. I also have to say this was a really well done video; it was edited well and it sounded like you'd taken the time to think about what you wanted to say. Keep up the great work.
Hey man keep doing what you’re doing! I’m from the albemarle area and I’m hoping to get this shotgun some day. Most informative video I think I’ve ever seen for an over-under shotgun.
enjoyed, subscribed! i am contemplating a condor wildfowler-30 inch with extended chokes. i have an old valmet 412 without interchangeable chokes- a former club gun that is still very tight. good luck with your scores--keep these reviews coming!
I have a Condor outback (second hand) and it works flawlessly - GREAT gun. Going to buy a Condor 12/20 combo. Got a CZ and brand new out of the box, the finish came off after one cleaning. CS said it was 9 (that's nine) MONTHS to get it repaired or an exchanged. Their excuse was, "well if we send you a new shotgun, we can't sell it to someone else ( read: we'll just keep your money and make you wait)".
EWL Slip 2000 oil is available in a 30 weight. It stays where you put it, and doesn't dry up and turn to glue like some greases can. It's a little expensive, but I bought a 4 ounce bottle several years ago, and still have about 3.7 ounces left.
Excellent video I have the Condor field gun and I like it. I bought it at a local farm/ranch store when they were discontinuing the gun and got a good deal. For the money they are great guns, I am sure your competition condor is awesome.
buddy of mine has one with fiber optic bead, love the wide rib and the gun is well balanced and it makes it great to swing, dont mind the weight at all and im a small guy.... great video !
Have had this gun for at least 5 years, not the competition model but the regular field model, after a rough estimate, have at least 20,000 rounds thru the sucker, it still chooches. I even use the 3 inch rem high velocity and take it out for waterfoul.
Thank you for doing this video..! I had been trying for a year to get my Condor and finally picked it up 3 days ago. Looking forward to getting on the range this weekend. Also, thank for the gun case recommendation and video.. Great job and thanks again..!
Great vid thanks. Have the regular Condor in 20 guage my self. My first O/U. Love the way an o/u looks. Recoil is more than my 12 guage semi auto from Mossberg, so don't know if I'm going to keep it. Its bit lighter than yours so that may have something to do with it. Again, great vid and thanks.
Hey thanks. I have both. I picked up a regular Condor to add to inventory for my youth trap team. It has a plus because it's lighter. But for me that turned into a negative because I shoot 3dram loads. I've been spoiled by the weight of the comp model. And the comp has a more aggressive pistol grip and palm swell. From end to end it's the mature older brother of the Condor field gun for the budgeted minded. And to everyone else, I'm sorry I've been bogged down for some time now. Just got to get through June and I promise I will have some updates and new RangeTalks rolling into July!!
Ive had a Stoeger Condor 28" barrels for 10 years now. bought it specifically for Waterfowl and Dove season. has worked flawlessly since day one. definitely got my moneys worth. $325 in 2008.
Was looking for a inexpensive O/U to buy for trap/skeet shooting and bought the Condor Competition after viewing this video. Just received the gun and shot a couple of rounds of 5 Stands with it. I've very happy w/the way it feels, points and shoots. Thanks for this review!
SGT 1372 Just hit the trap range w/the Condor Competition today. Missed a lot of shots in the 1st 2 rounds; some really easy. shots. So, decided to pattern the gun it at 25 yards. The gun shoots dead on to low w/all chokes in both barrels. I was pointing low below the clays expecting the shots to rise; that's why I missed so many. The pattern spread on the modified and improved cylinder chokes was wide & low. The pattern with the full chokes was the best; not too wide or narrow. For the next 3 rounds, I switched to full chokes (O & U) and covered the clays w/the tip of the barrel. My hits went WAY up. Bought a couple of Briley Invector skeet chokes to complete the set (which I patterned but didn't shoot today) but I now think that I may need to replace the all of the other Stoeger chokes w/Briley's as well. Will buy one of each -- IC, M, IM & F -- to see how they compare w/the Stoeger chokes.
Ok gun for occasional weekend warriors. Or ok first O/U to see if you want to pursue clay target sports. Good review. Your technique shows room for improvement. ATA trained coaches are available nationwide.
I have an Stoeger Condor Supreme , it's a really nice shotgun well constructed and reliable, you can't go wrong for the price, fine walnut stock and is made in Brazil. Nice video thanks for share
Hey Guys. I have had this gun for maybe 6 months/maybe 2,000 rounds. No problems and I do like it. I am 57 years of age an getting back into trap after maybe 25 years away (kids). My issue is that the gun doesn't really fit me properly (6'3"), definitely too short and maybe a few other fit issues. I have been told by the guys at the club that it's really not worth putting money into fitting a gun of this quality and that I should just put that money into a new or used Citori XT which they say is the logical next step up. Any thoughts on this appreciated
Thanks for the review. I am considering an over under after 40 plus years of my 1100 field 12 gauge. This gun keeps popping up on the web as the number one suggestion for low dollar trap guns.
Thanks. The fit, finish and features on this model are definitely well done considering the price range. It has indeed been a while. A lot of out of state work.
I did a round of trap last year after about 30 years... I used a Winchester 1200 - 20 gauge. I hit 11 out of 25. I saw everyone with those over and under guns. I know from your previous video that you have the process down this gun will only make you look better doing it. LOL.
Lol, the look is half the battle. I would have been just fine with my good ol pump but I'm addicted to doubles. I have the verona semi-auto but I wanted something with more weight, longer barrels and better fit that didn't spit shells at the next guy over lol.
this gun is just about out of stock everywhere. i have a deposit at my local Turners and have been waiting over 1 month now and still waiting. i feel strange putting a deposit on a gun i never shouldered. I have a few questions for you, if you don't mind? 1) any issues as of current? 2) have you put on scale for exact weight? 3) is the sight manageable? 4)is the rail low? 5) is it worth waiting for? thanks for the time you put on a great review!
Great video, i even learned a few things, again! lol Beautiful shotgun, Congrats.. i bought a Stoeger P350 about four years ago and haven't had a single problem, it's built like a Tank =) Good to see a video from you
Thanks bro! Trying to keep the momentum going. Yeah that P350 seems to have a decent reputation but hey if you're a major manufacture that can make a pump shotgun indestructible within reason... something is wrong lol. It's them durn O/U and Semi's that get the jitters sometimes.
Everything you say about this gun is spot on, My Competition is accurate, shoots where you look, fits well, points and handles well. The only problem I have is Fail to Fire and Fail To Eject and believe it or not my FTF and FTE started at about 250 rounds too. I sent my back to Benelli and they reworked it And returned it free. But it still does the same thing, Good gun but I can never take it to a real competition. I have since spent $1900 on a Beretta 686 SP1 Sporting and I’m totally happy. The Stoeger is a good gun to start out and I put over 1500 rounds in 7 months thru mine. I wish I had bought the combo because I want to shoot sub gauges.
Johnny Snead !!! How goes it bud. I did another 200 today, 100 singles, 50 doubles. No ftf this go round. Fresh coat of grease at the rub points, it's loosening up nicely. One thing I did notice(and also read) is if that action is not opened all the way those firing mechanisms don't get fully set and tho it opened and closed you might not get that strike. I was able to replicate it dry firing with my dummy rounds so I bought a golf glove(nice Michael Jackson action on the trap range lol) because that barrel heat was preventing me from getting the grip i needed to really open and close that action properly. The glove felt wonderful today, no burnt fingertips and I could really snatch that action open and get it snapped closed without much added effort. Should get another 150 in at a Big50 on the 8th if work permits but as of now 500rnds this month with just that 1 ftf. Hopefully I can get to 1500 and still only 1 ftf. Thanks for the comment tho! Can't go wrong with that 686 but my $$$ has to go towards ammo lol. When my money allows me to shoot 10,000 rounds a year I'll get that nice beretta or browning.
Hmmmmm....wonder if I got screwed, my condor competition came with flush fitting chokes not the extended ones you got, maybe because mine was the combo with 12 and 20 gauge? On a side note, you can remove the ejectors so it functions like an extractor.
I took my competition o/u back to the store where I bought it expecting for them to ship it to Stoeger to get fixed, but it was able to be fixed in the store. I was told that during shipping of the Stoegers from overseas, the manufacturer likes to put more lubrication/oil in the guns than needed to help prevent rust/corrosion. The extra lubrication/oil that resulted in gunk in my gun was wiped away and my gun now operates as intended.
That's good, glad it worked out. I have still yet to have any mechanical issues. It's always good to pull off the stock and check the trigger mechanisms. Never know what's in there.
Great video man, shot skeet today for the first time and when I tried to use my Mossberg 930, it wouldn't extract the shells due to something being wrong with the breech, anyhow, I rented an O/U Ruger Red Label and killed it. I'm hooked on the O/U shotguns now and I'm looking for one to spend some time at the skeet range, I think you sold me on this as a budget, just getting started, O/U. Also will definitely take your advice on the lube and have to stay aware of the riser as well. Thanks again!
Hi Sirraj, I was looking for a trap gun and came across this video. Love your sincere approach. Would you still recommend this gun in 2024 or something else. My budget is $1500 max. Thank you. 🙏
Great video! Really like the amount of detail. I'm curious to see how this gun is treating you now. I had my O/U stolen in a break-in last year, and I'm just now getting back to replacing it. I spotted one for a pretty decent price, but I didn't want to pull the trigger (haha see what I did there ;) ) until I had heard what the long term results were.
The only time the over/under really shines is in doubles. The extra weight isn't bad to have but I was getting very comfortable shooting with my Pardner pump. That shotgun fits me very well and I've shot with it my first 3 months in ATA. I just used my Verona SX405 for doubles. But I'm really enjoying trap these days. Would like to go wingshooting at some point. Need to find a hunter that will drag me along though and show me the ropes.
Awesome video. Do you know if after every shot, you have to disengage the safety or does the safety stay off? Thanks. I have a CZ 912 that is a great semi-auto gun that I use for hunting but I need something for skeet/trap. (Hopefully this gun)
+ThatDudeSirraj While im looking for a cheap O/U to get into clay shooting casually, and there are not many videos on the stoeger O/U guns, however this is the gun I was looking at, and your video goes so far into depth of the gun it answers any questions one may have, I wish more unboxings were done this well.
Loved the video. Are you shooting the Left hand version (31047) or the right hand (31045). I am cross dominant and decided to make the effort to switch to left handed shooting. I am wondering if the cast or swell is very dramatic. Could someone comfortable shoot the right sided gun on their left side or vise versa? Thanks for the info!
C Pacov hey sorry I missed this comment!!! I'm shooting the left handed version. There is a noticable difference in cast and palm swell from the left handed vs right handed version. I initially saw the right handed and had the store order the lefty. if you're shooting lefty you'll want the lefty gun.
$631.79 from Dances Sporting Goods in Petersburg, VA. BTW, I dug a video out the archives and posted it. You may want to take a look at it. Could sway your opinion or choice to go for the Condor Comp, but again at the price range, and features(biggest thing being the solid weight to obsorb recoil and Lefty palm swell for me) I still don't rule it out as a solid starting option.
Hum..well that's the price range I want to me in give or take , and I definitely want ejectors, so what would you suggest then? Glad I haven't made the purchase yet , keep up your great videos brother , very informative
enjoy your videos ... nice job. Like the looks of your Stoeger Comp ... looks really nice, especially for the dollars spent ... I bought a 20 gauge/28" the other day but haven't fired it yet ... Condor Field ... I'm cheap ;-) ... know anything about how they are?
Hey thanks. I've never dealt with the Condor Field guns outside of holding them and reading reviews. I can say they are considerably lighter than the Comp and if I remember don't have selective trigger but other than that some people like em, some don't. If yours is shootin good, keep shootin' it!
I hear ya.Really like your comp. Pretty gun. Never fired the Condor; gave it to my son unfired. So far for him, so good. I picked up a used Weatherby Orion Class 1 a week ago and like it much more. Posted a vid of it last night. Take care.
Great video, have you figured out how to turn the ejectors in extractors? Their is a review on bass pro from a guy who bought this gun. He said he removed the side clips on the ejectors to make them into extractors. Wondering if you have heard of this or tried it. Let me know, thanks.
Hey thanks. Nah, I never looked into it. I prefer the ejection. One less thing to think about, I either catch them or slap them forward and stay in routine. I have another Condor that one of my juniors shoot. Picked it up recently just to throw a few rounds through it after breaking it down for a good cleaning. The extractors did throw me out of routine a bit. I'd suggest just take an hour to practice routine with dummy or spent shells. After about 150-200 ejections you'll probably be catching them as they come out. The trick is to not look at the shell or the action. Your brain will remember the timing and placement of the shell coming out and will handle the movement better without the visual data, streamlining focus a bit. Just my suggestion. But I can't go back to extractors. Thanks for listening!!
I am new to Shooting and am Very interested in trap/clay. To this point i have only shot my.22LR. Any advice for a first timer on what type of gun to start out with?
How is the stoeger condor competition holding up since you got it? I was thinking about buying one for my first o/u. My second gun Im concidering is the ruger red label but I just didn't want to spend that much but the red label is so nice! Which would you recommend for shooting trap once a week around 200 rounds a week.
Question on the condor comp. how does the safety and barrel selector work exactly? I've heard it sets the safety every time you shoot it, this really true? Also the selector, does one setting shoot both (one after the other) vs the other just shoots one (something I've also heard)? I know you cover it in your video, you explained it how I would think that would make more sense. Last question, now you've had it for a while, how's it still working? Still worth the purchase? Hoping for a follow up video of it soon. Looking at buying one myself. Great informative video btw!
Hey Chris Williams . GREAT question. I should have elaborated more and I will be doing a follow up vid now that my computer/editing dilemma is resolved(had to retire XP and get a new comp) Yeah, so if you go back to about 1:57 or so, you saw the selector was up and to the right. In that position the safety is off and the gun is shooting the bottom barrel(barrel 1) first. To shoot the top barrel first(barrel 2), the selector must be slid down(safety on, you can see the 'S' at the top showing), over to the left and pushed up(safety off) to engage the trigger mechanisms. It will always shoot 2 rounds IF you have 2 rounds loaded, but it is inertia reset. So if you get a click and no bang on the first round, you wont get a bang on the second trigger pull. The safety does NOT re-engage. Once on the line and you have your barrel selected, you are shooting, ejecting, reloading and shooting. Definitely don't want that extra distraction of having to reset the safety. That would contribute to a few lost birds I'm sure. These are points I will cover in the follow up but I'll give you a few now for what I think is relevant. The barrel is too low in relation to the stocks comb for me. With my face dimensions I had to push into the comb, even with it lowered all the way down, to get my eyes lined up wit the barrel. A little ingenuity and I made a cheap $1.20 short riser, similiar to what you would see on olympic trap guns and it works wonders. Working on a 3rd prototype I can patent ;). Started with 3/4" and had to redesign down to 1/2" and boy what a comfort difference it made. No cheek slap, the stock sits a little lower in my shoulder and I loved it again. You'd think 1/2" doesn't make a difference but after watching a few vids with international shooters and trainers boy were they right about gun fit. Secondly, pattern your shotgun. At about 30 yards my bottom barrel shoots relatively dead on while my top barrel shoots about 10" high(patterned with the full chokes). Since the norm is to shoot bottom first, or just bottom in singles it would make sense for that to actually be opposite. I started reversing the order on doubles and my hits went up. Which makes sense. I'm not the fastest shooter but my first shot the clay is rising, second shot usually the clay has hit apex or started falling. So I needed to shoot top barrel at the rising clay and bottom at the leveled/falling clay. But every gun is different so it's best to D.O.P.E. than assume. Anything for another hit on the scorecard. Also shooting the bottom is supposed to have less felt recoil with the more straight back push. While trying to resolve my gunfit/cheek slap issue I found the top barrel to actual feel more straight back. Possibly due to the later known fact that it shoots high so the pitch of the barrel may contribute to the better feel. Again, each gun may vary slightly. On top of that this gun is heavy, so to me recoil will be the least of your problems if you have proper stance and mount. It will absorb it right up.. To not get fatigued on a 300 round day I really had to focus on staying in a resting position as long as possible, then going right into my mounting routine, calling and getting back into resting. Holding this sucker up will wear you out and some newb friends that have held it definitely realized the weight. It is my heavest shotgun out of the 9 or so that I have, but again, I like it. It feels solid. The action has smoothed out nicely just keep the grease light but fresh on only the wear points. The chokes are not the best. I think they pattern well enough but are not tight to standard tolerance per se. Again I'm not the fastest shooter and when I shoot singles I tend to time with the apex of the rise(Trap distance, I don't shoot skeet yet). When I switched from the modified to full my scores did better. Went back and patterned the mod vs the full at about 40-45 yards and the mods just had to many holes for the clay at it's proper side profile to fit through. They both patterned evenly for the most part but until I get better aftermarket chokes, I'll opt for a smaller, more dense pattern. The last shoot before the switch I dusted so many targets because not enough shot was hitting to break it, just shift it. And in trap that's a miss. I was livid that day lol. So it's on my list to get another set of Mod and IM. With doubles I'd rather go Mod/IM or IM/IM. Fulls on the single is not bad but adding the swing with the doubles I think I need a little more spread so I/M should fit the bill. But we shall see. Otherwise, I love it and it's a keeper for me. Still no hickups since that first FTF. For the price point, it's unmatched period. But people have to pay attention to the 'Competition' label. I'd hate to lug this sucker through the woods. But on the clay fields mine is solid. I hope more people give feedback on their experience with this model. Hope that helps.
At first I thought you were just going to be another Noir tactical rip off... But your video was actually very basic and well done. Great over view man. Subbed!
May I ask which choke tubes you ended up getting? I have the stock chokes on my Condor Competition currently but I seem to remember reading somewhere that you replaced them and got better performance. Thanks so much.
You CERTAINLY want some high pressure grease on the radiuses of the forearm to prevent galling. It is possible to loosen that action in about 5 minutes which I would add is not irreversible…..it can be reversed and tightened up later if desired extremely easily.
I'm considering one for my pop and I to use for trap. He hasn't shot in over 30 years and trap is relatively new to me. A guy at our local dealer said it was rather "clunky" or heavy and lacked smooth action (not sure what part he was referrring to). 7.8Lbs isn't exactly light, but not heavy for me. How did you find the balance and would you recommend the Stoeger Comp for entry level trap shooters? Great job on the video! Gave me just about everything I needed to help me decide.
+Sean Didier It's a heavy gun. Mine comes in over 8lbs. But I like it, absorbs recoil better and allows a smooth swing. I do find it important to utilize a barrel rest(I advise against resting on your toe). Shooting 2-300 targets can cause a bit of fatigue pending how fast of a shooter a person is but, like I tell my youth team, routine is important to build early on and giving your muscles a break should be part of that routine. I made a few rests out of the sample carpets you can get free at lowes/home depot. Glued a magnet on to make moving to the next station a simple click and go. Dramatically increased my ability to shoot the gun without signs of muscle fatigue. Entry level is not as important as gun fit. LOP, DRAM, stance and gun weight is important to get right. For me the balance is more rearward of my natural grip, but I have long arms. I think a light build under 5'8" may have some difficulty finding a grove with the comp model of the bat. But a comfort zone can be found if the person really wants to make this gun work. Getting the stock setup right, forming routine and good shooting practice. And I do exercises with a 10lb weight to liven up those inner shoulder muscles I don't seem to use much lol. It helps when the season starts back up.
How has the opening and closing of the action loosened up since you've purchased it? I just got mine today and noticed that both opening and closing is pretty stiff. I also got the SKB case you reviewed. I know what to look forward to when it comes.
roul3688 Hey bud. Around about 500 rounds it really loosened up. I've been shooting light, usually about 50 targets at a time since I'm focusing more on the team development this time of year. Cleaning off the old grease and applying new grease to the joints every 100 targets really helped it smooth out. It definitely just falls open now when you hit the wing latch. I do still wear a golf glove on my front hand because I actually shoot top barrel more. I like the rise better and it's softer on the face for some reason, opposite of the norm. And as far as the case, I've been putting in the lower corner of the butt pad first and gently pushing it in. I have about a 1/8" rise in the comb adjustment. The case cutout has expanded a bit around the stock and it sits in there niceley now. Just took a while to break in. Hope that helps.
***** Helps quite a bit! Thanks for your response. I took the stoeger out today for my first 5 rounds of trap with it. I notice the difference from out of the box and 125 shots later. Closes a little easieralready. Rifle shoots nice, without much recoil. My best was only 18/25 but that's my highest with any gun, so first time with this shotgun, I maintained my average. No missfires or issues for anyone else reading this. Thanks again!
just want to say that I am very sad I got rid of this gun. I sold it and bought a Mossberg 930 JM Pro and really wish I would've kept it. I NEVER had a issue with this gun, fired over 5000 rounds plus through it all target loads and it ran like a champion. I am actually looking to buy this shotgun again. Call me what you want, but when I sold it, it was really tough to let her go as she was an AMAZING shotgun. HIGHLY suggest. I also have owned the Condor and liked it as well but the Competition was much nicer to shoot.
I'm looking to get an over/under. My first. Coming from pump. This seems to be a good budget entry level. My question would be in shooting doubles do you have to move the selector down, to the side and back up to take your second shot? Or is the selector just to choose which fires first?
InItForTheParking Hey, no all over unders the barrel selector selects the first barrel to shoot that's it. No switching in between the shots. That would considerably slow down how fast you can shoot an overunder which is an advantage of an o/u vs a semi-auto. So one you select the first barrel, that's it. Bang Bang
starting to get into competitive trap shot in high school and went to nationals and now looking for a new gun for college and wondering if someone can help me
So Sirraj I'm just getting into to clays and have been eye balling this Stoeger.. but as I'm beginning to enter in competitions in fact I went to my very first this weekend. I was wondering if you have had any problems now with gun? Or how many rounds have you got through it now? Thanks
Hey Ryan, I have 1900 rounds through it that I have kept track of. I should be making a follow up video soon. Times been tight lately. The only real failure was a screw that holds the forend wood to the metal in the forend broke. Stoeger sent me 2 more. They were noticeably newer in thier machining. If you buy the Comp, order the screws just in case one goes in the middle of a shoot. POI for both barrels isn't perfect but according to Stoegers 25 yard standard, the gun shoots within spec. You'll want to pattern extensively to really know where the gun is shooting and get your stock setup for you. I made a 3/4 inch riser for my barrel. Currently on my 3rd prototype and its really working. I also shoot top barrel first due to my top barrel having a higher POI than my bottom. The norm is reversed so that's why it's important to pattern. everything else is fine. Trigger, action lockup, ejectors. For a while I wished I had extractors but I decided to take about at hour loading in spend shells and catching them. Now I catch them on release. Looks cool with my friends but in reality it speeds up my unloading/loading process, gives me that extra 3 seconds to breath before my next shot, and I don't have shells to pick up afterwards. I've found routine is everything to maintain focus and have a good shoot and ejectors, at least for me, helps me to stay in a routine and maintain that focus. Function wise, Its been a very sound firearm. Especially for its price point. It's not the absolute best for Doubles, especially if you don't pattern to really know your POAvsPOI but I've also only shot 400 Doubles with it as well. 200 of those prior to repatterneing since switching to top barrel first. Last 2 outs have shown improvements and I will continue to improve I'm sure but some people won't like to deal with having to calculate the barrel difference while shooting. I don't mind it too much and I'm taking into consideration this is an area where spending a little more money comes into play. Beretta, Kreighoff, Perazzi etc will have barrels with much tighter specs. But I don't have that much extra cash at the moment. When I can reach my goal of shooting about 5-6000 rounds per year I'll be looking at one of those 3 brands. But for starters, under 2k per year the Stoeger is a great option imo.
I bought this gun recently and shot it for the first time today. I was able to get a few shots off before my safety malfunctioned. When I move the safety switch to fire and pull the trigger, the gun still won't fire. Is this common to the competition o/u or was this just my gun?
+ThatDudeSirraj thanks man. I've had a Condor longfowler for about the last year that has been great. I've been thinking about picking up a competition Condor. Are you still shooting this one?
Just curious. Is there a new and a old version of this shotgun? I've been shopping around and the stoeger comp I've seen is different than the one displayed on the video.
I believe so. I think Stoeger just updated it's website finally. If you hit the over under drop down you can see the 12 gauge shows the newer style that I have and the 20ga still reflects the older style. Primary differences being the cut of the comb and the roundness of the forend. I think I like the newer style comb better. It's also flatter than what's shown in the picture I think. I have my comb adjusted so it's almost flat, but even before the adjustment I feel the stock has a flatter comb than whats shown in the picture. Could just be some mild distortion. Hope that helps!
Now that you have had the gun about a month now how to you like it? how many rounds do you have through it now and any problems to date. I just ordered one and but I have been reading a lot of negative comments on the forms but but I sort of expected that but it fit my budge and can be out shooting and not sitting home wishing I was out shooting.
Hey Bob. Good questions. Well I'm only up to 550 rounds. Still no hick-ups since that one FTFire(probably the ammo) back around 250rnds or so. With proper greasing the action is getting smooth with the open and closing but the golf glove makes it a whole lot easier as well incase I need to put a little more umph in it I don't get distracted by finger tips on a hot barrel. I do have a cheek slap issue that I am still working out. Went from 3DRAM loads back to 2-3/4DRAM and I lowered the comb just about all the way down. As I've shot more I've moved to a more open, upright stance but in doing so if I get lazy on my shoulder mount this shotgun makes me pay for it. I've shifted the cone out from my cheek a little bit so on my next shoot I'll see if that helps when I get 'lazy'. Would rather a soft reminder than a harsh punch lol. So all in all, for the most part the swollen cheek is my fault and I'll get the kinks worked out. Everything else is A1 in my book. I love the durn thing. I'll be putting another 75 or so rounds through it this weekend in a invitational shoot I'm having at my range, maybe another 100 at an ATA shoot on the 22nd and definitely another 300 on Nov 1st at another ATA shoot. So if you want give me a shout beginning of November if you want another update. P-CE
Getting ready to get another shotgun. I don't have any o/u, I do have a Franchi I-12 I am thinking of getting a O/U instead of another auto loader. How ever I don't really want to spend 1500 on a browning I have a thousand to spend. Are you still liking this gun? Great review by the way !
Okay so I am 15 and buying my first shotgun for trap shooting. Basically I wanna know does it last well, how is it holding up now that you have shot it more? Have you had any issues with the Stoeger Condor?
Hey Lauren, sorry about the late reply. I just responded to another youtuber above, Ryan Welsh, with similar questions. Take a look and if you have any further questions let me know. Thanks!
Sirraj, thanks for responding. You know I've come very close several times to buying this gun, but every time I do I find some new negative post about it. My son and I are really getting into the trap game and have been sharing my "B" gun O/U, I have been looking at the competition for a while and would like to get it for him. But you seem to have the only Stoeger competition ever to not have all the usual problems, like fail to fire, sticky safety, second shot won't fire, cracked stock etc. seems like a lot of the non firing issues stem from just not cleaning the gun out of the box, could it be as simple as that? Even with all these issues I still would like to get the gun. I know you have been asked this question a million times, how is your gun holding up since you seem to do a lot of shooting with it in ATA shoots and probably even more than that. It's about the same amount of shooting that my son and I will be doing. Would like to hear from you again, thanks.
Your message is exactly what I'm running into. Every time I think I want to buy the Condor Competition I either read something negative about it or someone tells me "you get what you pay for." Id be interested in hearing if you bought it and how it's been operating for you. Thanks
Honestly one of the best and most informative gun review I have ever seen. Great job and keep 'em coming!
Excellent video covers the gun A to Z thank you. 7 years later and still the best. Hopefully I can find one of these for this coming trap season.
Thanks for the review. I picked mine because of your review, hoping to use it for trap this coming summer.
Good job. I like vids like this where the reviewer is talking to us, not talking down to us. Easy to understand. A little long, but very good. Good camera work.
Another tip re oil v. grease - grease goes on parts that slide against each other; oil where you want it to migrate or penetrate.
Damn man! Now I'm ordering one as I type this! Appreciate the lengthy review
Thank you. I am thinking about upgrading to the competition from the condor and I think I might.
Hey man keep doing what you’re doing! I’m from the albemarle area and I’m hoping to get this shotgun some day. Most informative video I think I’ve ever seen for an over-under shotgun.
Albemarle Virginia?
@@noblebrown7533 yes. Earlysville, just outside of Charlottesville
enjoyed, subscribed! i am contemplating a condor wildfowler-30 inch with extended chokes. i have an old valmet 412 without interchangeable chokes- a former club gun that is still very tight. good luck with your scores--keep these reviews coming!
Great review, very helpful, just the right amount of depth. hope you do more of these!
+Ken Kroslowitz Thanks! I'll try to get a few more videos out. Life has been demanding these days.
Absolutely LOVE my Condor Competition
Excellent video I have the Condor field gun and I like it. I bought it at a local farm/ranch store when they were discontinuing the gun and got a good deal. For the money they are great guns, I am sure your competition condor is awesome.
thank you and well done from Canada
buddy of mine has one with fiber optic bead, love the wide rib and the gun is well balanced and it makes it great to swing, dont mind the weight at all and im a small guy.... great video !
Very informative video.... thanks for posting!
I really appreciate this thorough overview. I'm going to order one today.
Again, great vid and thanks.
wish I could do a video on my competition...not very tech savvy but I absolutely enjoy it...have had no malfunctions!!!
Great presentation and very thorough. I'm debating whether to buy the Condor or the Condor Competition. You explained everything very well. Thank you.
Helped a ton, I'm hoping to buy this shotgun! Thanks for showing the adjustable comb
Thx for the review. I oredered one the other day!
Thanks for the video. it was helpful in adjusting the comb.
+David Evans You're welcome! Thanks for watching.
The stock is designed for cast off or cast on as well as height
It is a sharp looking gun... Glad to see a video from you it seems like it has been awhile.
Thanks for this! Just bought one but mine came with the 12 barrels and the 20 barrels
this gun is just about out of stock everywhere. i have a deposit at my local Turners and have been waiting over 1 month now and still waiting. i feel strange putting a deposit on a gun i never shouldered.
Great video. I've been looking for months and can't find any OU's anywhere.
Hmmmmm....wonder if I got screwed, my condor competition came with flush fitting chokes not the extended ones you got, maybe because mine was the combo with 12 and 20 gauge? On a side note, you can remove the ejectors so it functions like an extractor.
Nice shotgun! I have been looking lately for my fist o/u and was set on a CZ but will look into this one! great vid and thanks!!
Good job...I'm thinking about picking this shotgun up. Thanks for the vid !
Would you please show how to remove the ejectors?
Great review - thanks!
I just picked up the standard Condor. Mine was made in Brazil. An incredible bargain at $299. How much was yours?
Thanks
Good price. I want to get into trap and my other two are Remington pumps.
Can you make a update video pls on the shoot gun thanks
Awesome video. Do you know if after every shot, you have to disengage the safety or does the safety stay off? Thanks. I have a CZ 912 that is a great semi-auto gun that I use for hunting but I need something for skeet/trap. (Hopefully this gun)
Nice touch with the echo at the end. I'm purchasing a used 20ga Stoeger competition. Anything in particular I need to look for?
What’s the blue thing?
Great value in a o/u shotgun!!😀😀😀
Ya I want to know if you know how to remove the ejectors? I have this gun. Just I can't get them off to clean them.
do they still offer this gun with interchangeable barrels ? thanks
Just bought one and the top barrle ejector doesn't work anyone no how to take ejecters out
What's the price point on the Stoger Condor Competition, and where did you purchase it?
Im thinking of picking this gun up Thursday. First shotgun ever. Hoping to shoot clays.. is this overkill for me?
enjoy your videos ...
Which would you recommend for shooting trap once a week around 200 rounds a week.
how is this shotgun performing now,I am very interested in getting one. All the other trap guys say it won't hold up
Question on the condor comp. how does the safety and barrel selector work exactly?

Mos Def this helps thank you for the info and the speedy reply! Looking forward to your follow up video!
I have the same Stoeger condor I always bought 3 inch shells you said it can take a different size round as well?
Great video, sir.
At first I thought you were just going to be another Noir tactical rip off... But your video was actually very basic and well done. Great over view man. Subbed!
Somehow this is the first time I'm watching this video and when he's on his deck he ends up wearing the exact same shirt as me. A little creepy.
Does the safety reset after breaking it open like the Condor field gun or can you leave it off full time during a Trap session?
nice shotgun, but they should port the barrels closer to the top if at all
I agree but I think they do help a bit.
+ThatDudeSirraj very much appreciate the in depth thoughts and advice!
so if you are only allowed one shell in your gun which barrel do you out it in
Terrific.
Thanks again!
so how is the gun doing after some time has passed
How many rounds do you think you have shot through it now? Can you update us on any issues you might have or other observations. Thanks
just want to say that I am very sad I got rid of this gun.
Bang Bang
Thanks for the info.
starting to get into competitive trap shot in high school and went to nationals and now looking for a new gun for college and wondering if someone can help me
What choke tubes came with the gun? Im thinking about getting one of these
So Sirraj I'm just getting into to clays and have been eye balling this Stoeger.. but as I'm beginning to enter in competitions in fact I went to my very first this weekend.
+ThatDudeSirraj Thank you very much for your responses this helps me out a bunch!! thanks and Im looking forward to more gun talk!
I bought this gun recently and shot it for the first time today. I was able to get a few shots off before my safety malfunctioned. When I move the safety switch to fire and pull the trigger, the gun still won't fire. Is this common to the competition o/u or was this just my gun?
Very nice video. My wifi was buffering so I will come back to watch it all. One questions, does this have ejectors or extractors?
Thanks! This has ejectors and selectable barrels. The standard Condor has extractors and always shoots bottom first.
+ThatDudeSirraj thanks man. I've had a Condor longfowler for about the last year that has been great. I've been thinking about picking up a competition Condor. Are you still shooting this one?
Do you still have/use this shotgun? Just curious
Great review
P-CE
thanx for the info
Getting ready to get another shotgun. I don't have any o/u, I do have a Franchi I-12 I am thinking of getting a O/U instead of another auto loader. How ever I don't really want to spend 1500 on a browning I have a thousand to spend. Are you still liking this gun? Great review by the way !
thank you
Okay so I am 15 and buying my first shotgun for trap shooting.
I have the competition, works flawlessly...but you need to clean and lub out of the box first time...absolutely love my gun...great video!!!
Your message is exactly what I'm running into. Every time I think I want to buy the Condor Competition I either read something negative about it or someone tells me "you get what you pay for." Id be interested in hearing if you bought it and how it's been operating for you. Thanks
