There *IS* a cheeky acknowledgement that people consider it to be the epitome of "Marvel humor", Deadpool's very next line is "welcome to the MCU, you're joining at a low point."
I dont think James got everything from that movie, but I also think its not made for him, its made for people who grew up with superhero movies and want more of that (doesn't mean that those people would eater everything up, but the movie was also very funny)
Same. They shouldn't say anything till they hit their 30s. That's where you really feel things mentally and physically. People in their mid 20s really think they got things figured out. Hell you still got stuff to figure out in your 30s tbh.
I honestly liked that Wolverine never seemed fully changed his thoughts on Deadpool by the end of the film. It felt realistic to me, especially for how the characters are portrayed in the film. He was never gonna like Deadpool’s inability to shut up, but he has a higher tolerance for it now, which I think makes sense. I have friends that get on my nerves sometimes too. They spent a few days with each other at best, and I liked that the movie considered that aspect at the end and went about their growing relationship with that and their characters in mind.
I agree, not to mention it’s fully accurate to their dynamic in the comics. It was clever on the writers not to make them permanently best friends or something. I think in the end Logan does have a begrudging respect for him if anything.
@@Pelican07.23 Pretty sure that Wolverine did get a lot of character development, even if he's the only character in the movie that got any. When you think about it, this is more of a Wolverine movie pretending to be a Deadpool movie than a Deadpool movie.
I argue that it's not enough of a tribute with all the meandering they did. I mean, the camoes should've been proper side characters instead of just being another x force
There isn't, but then you have to understand that it wont work for everyone if that's all it is. I doubt it will even have serious longevity but i could be wrong
I agree that it was fun and one of the better marvel movies I’ve seen in a while, but the thing about Deadpool is he isn’t all fun and comedy. Not in the comics nor the movies. He’s always had a strong emotional core that made you feel for the character, all of the horrible shit he’s dealt with, it makes him complex. Here I just didn’t feel very compelled by any of the emotional moments. It was fun but there wasn’t a reason to care.
While the first deadpool was described as a romance movie, and the second as a family movie, the third falls in line by being a somewhat meta take on what it means to be a superhero movie. Or in deadpools case, a "real" superhero movie. And thay comes with the baggage of deeming some superhero movies as unworthy, not good enough to continue existing. The disney heads labeling them as unprofitable. But those heros are still people in deadpools world. They have stories to tell and desverve to have a home. So he undoes the notion that the mcu is some kind of holy standard, showing all these movies are worthy. A superhero movie isn't defined by the box office, but by the heroes within them. And that should be how we look at the genre today
Beautifully put. I didn’t even recognize half of these characters, but there were people in the audience that did and were so happy to see them back. I personally never needed to see Hugh Jackman in the yellow suit, but even I’ll admit that it was a beautiful love letter to fans.
the movie was undoubtedly a love letter to the pre-ironman marvel movies in the same way that no way home was for the other spidermen, so even with its flaws, i'm glad it exists and gives these characters and actors a final chapter that they deserved. deadpool was the only possible character that could lead a movie like this, so i think it worked. my main gripe with the movie is it sometimes just feels like disney is patting itself on the back. the criticisms of modern MCU in this movie kind of fall flat when it's mostly disney just poking fun at itself and we have no idea if marvel movies are ever going to have a legitimate comeback in quality. deadpool & wolverine bringing back so many old faces is a double-edged sword, because disney refusing to let certain IPs die is a problem people have been pointing out for many years but it's also a uniquely good thing about this movie that people loved. i have very complicated feelings about this movie which i definitely did not expect going into the deadpool three-quel lmao
THANK YOUUU I did not know how to put this into words! I'm so happy that they accept that deadpool doesn't NEED to be an avenger to be a worthy character to invest in!
This movie really felt like a love letter to the old X-Men movies. Especially that bts stuff in the credits. And the chemistry between these two characters really carried the movie imo. Definitely a solid 8/10 to me.
I feel like you didn’t understand the “he’s right behind me” bit. Usually the joke is realising someone you’re bad mouthing has shown up behind you. Deadpool literally brings Wolverine there, steps in front of him, bad mouths him, and THEN says “he’s right behind me isn’t he?”. The joke is, he of course knew he was behind him, he was always behind him.
This is also the second time he's made this joke, he said something similar in Deadpool 2 when Cable showed up at Blind Al's place. I feel like the intention of the line was pretty clear.
Deadpool randomly getting Adamantium swords. Is kinda funny. Like just give the man who fights friends and enemies the omega weapon. Anyhow love the movie. The biginning credit is so funny.
4:29. Schaffrillas, my boy. Did you pay attention to the movie? He cares for Deadpool because he doesn't want his friends/universe to be killed the same way the X-Men of Wolverine's got killed and he sees an opportunity to make his wrongs right by saving Deadpool's universe, paralleling on how he messed up by deciding to not join/help the X-Men.
Literally! It's so obvious that their stories are somewhat parallel. Wade is clearly a good guy just trying to do right by his closest friends and Logan sees that and wants to let him have what he couldn't. And Deadpool deciding to sacrifice himself instead makes sense too, he should be the one to save his friends, and Logan is a friend to him, he doesn't want him to die either.
A universe Deadpool was willing to give up to join another, or it was the one he agreed to live in bc Thor is gonna cry over him eventually? Or did he save both? He was willing to let one universe die and then pretended it mattered, or the whole time he wanted to save a universe he never went to. I forget but either way it was dumb
@@wyattcole5452Did you watch the movie half-awake? Deadpool literally said he was “week on week off” kind of person, as in he thought he’d be allowed to revisit his universe every now and then.
@@Cappyey ah yes if I missed one line I must’ve been half awake the whole film, but whatever still was a universe he was willing to let die so doesn’t matter emotionally, bad writing
I didn't really care much for the story telling but it's the first movie I've seen in theaters that ever put me in a laughing fit, that post credit scene was hilarious imo
A movie should still have more to it than just “action and jokes.” You can enjoy it if that’s all you want, but that doesn’t mean that it’s a masterpiece if it doesn’t have the other story beats
So I want to give a different take on the movie. Deadpool and Wolverine was more about giving celebration to the forgotten Comic Book Movies of the past, the ones that never caught on or got rebooted in some way. Sure it's cheesy at times, but I think in an era where every major franchise likes to pretend its messier history doesn't exist, seeing the villains from the pre-reboot X-Men show up in the void, movies get acknowledged without making fun at their expense, there was something beautiful about it. Also shoutouts to Chris Evans for real, he seems super happy to revisit characters he's played in the past and mess around. He's like the good ending to Harrison Ford having mountains of legacy.
Right, it really felt like a thank you to everyone who worked on those movies, the credits where they had the X-MEN and other fox movies bts was very sweet. Just a way to say, we didn't forget, thank you for making this.
The way they purposely desecrated Logan’s corpse at the beginning while still managing to pay more respect to him than most of the MCU does to its own characters is whack
I am so happy they got Johnny storm there, that turnabout of what hero he was bc of the actor was amazing. And we all know the old movie did the heroes dirty
@@cosmicspacething3474 I mean, the whole of descerating his corpse was "well, the fans are gonna throw a hissy-fit about us doing this, so what if we actually do it?"
Two small corrections: Yes Deadpool did indeed say "Welcome to the MCU" after "He's right behind me isn't he", so that line definitely had intent behind it. The connection between those two lines could've been stronger, but at least it was indeed intentional. And Colossus DID have a line about Great British Bake Off, my bad I forgor
For the point he makes at 2:40. This is the third movie in a trilogy. We know these characters, and they were main points in the previous films, don’t act like they’re obsolete.
Yea and he wants them to include the side characters from the other movies but what would they add? Collosus would object to pretty much everything and stop wolverine and wade from fighting each other, yukio isn't very strong mutant, i think she can see how people die but that's it. Negasonic would also be useless because Cassandra wouldve just popped her like a balloon. Adding them makes no sense because they'd either hinder the main cast or out right die because they arent semi immortal
@@azzy9293 My idea would be have them in a side plot trying to find Wade. I don’t think they should join on the main adventure or even go into the void at all, but maybe have them on their world trying to find out what’s going on.
Yeah, he said how we dont see the connection between deadpool and his family in this movie so theres no stakes, but thats what the entire last deadpool movie was about
@@azzy9293honestly i prefer how this movie treated the side characters. I absolutely hated how the Thors friends get killed off and there is absolutely no weight to it.
@@dr_drawingsAlthough I loved the movie I think it already was too long to add more. If anything I think some parts could have been shorter or cut off at all, like the scene with the many Deadpools... most of them were not even different.
To quote metaldermis5755: "You don't go into Deadpool expecting a narrative masterpiece, you go in expecting fun. And they absolutely delivered on that front."
Hard disagree. While they are fun, silly, R-Rated gooffests, the Deadpool movies still had an emotional core that was compelling enough to give it's narrative a little more weight and complete the adaptation of the character. If this movie doesn't do that as well, it's a legitimate criticism to point out it was a subpar aspect this time around.
I think people forget that Deadpool 1 and 2 aren't really super amazing storywise if you pick apart pieces from it like this film. But whatever MCU criticism is popular now (something this film acknowledged fully)
@@JMXicothey’re not groundbreaking stories or anything, but Deadpool 1 and 2 definitely had more heart and emotions than the silly murder merc movie needed. The first one is a legit romance and 2 is all about found family. Again, nothing groundbreaking but way more genuine than I’d expect from Deadpool, which made those movies more fun to watch since I’m actually emotionally invested in these characters Deadpool and Wolverine felt very hollow in that regard, it’s easily the weakest of the trilogy as it has less heart and the same jokes from Deadpool 1. More of the same, but lesser
While the execution of the story is somewhat jumbled, I do think that there's a solid and shockingly cohesive message behind it that ties in really well with the whole meta-narrative regarding Fox's superhero movies and the MCU. Ultimately, it's a story about ones legacy. Deadpool wanting to save his universe is just as much, if not more, about wanting to save the story that was told in Deadpool 1 and 2, rather than it being "thrown away" because it won't serve the MCU canon. His desperate need to be a hero, and his failure to join the Avengers at the start of the film is meant to signify the different perceptions that people had towards a Fox superhero movie and a Disney/Marvel superhero movie, back when they were separate entities at least. The latest entry in the MCU was an event, their heroes were idolized, where as Fox movies were much more uneven, partly due to lacking that sort of "team-up" that Deadpool/Ryan Reynolds so desperately wanted with the X-Men/Wolverine/Hugh Jackman. It wasn't just the jokes that were meta, the purpose and heart of the movie itself, also relies on it. The movies by Fox were a mixed bag, but it shouldn't be something that's just thrown away and forgotten. It won't work with everybody considering that some of the material being referenced is 20+ years old at this point, but I do think that the message about legacy shines through and that the performances especially capture the gravitas of what's at stake. The credits showing behind the scenes footage just further solidifies it.
The void dragged on so long and the stakes were so contrived. Random suit man decides he wants to end universe sooner. Mid life crisis pool scenes were so boring too… fat Thor was way funnier in showing a fallen hero. What it tried to do. I get, but it was a fan service theme park that fell apart on emotional notes. Best part imo was Gambit.
I agree, especially with the desire to bring franchises and heroes back, the meta jokes with the fantastic four movie and blade movie being in the works in just genius
I think you've missed the point of the movie. This movie is a commentary on the current state of cinematic universes. Wolverine was the "anchor" of that timeline since the fox universe relied on him (Hugh Jackman) to carry the movies. After Logan, the universe stopped and kinda started to fade out, hence the long time to delete the timeline and literally the fox logo in the void. Paradox wanted to reboot the franchise by destroying the timeline The "marvel Jesus" bit was Deadpool recognizing this and accepting to be the only character Disney cared/allowed to bring to the MCU. It isn't a coincidence that Happy (Jon Favreau, mcu's actual ceo) was deciding if he could join the avengers. Moreover the cameos were meant to show how a movie should be remembered fondly as it was made, not as something that could add up to a monopolistic cinematic universe. Most of the characters in the void were recasts (like magneto) or characters that were excluded from the fox universe in a way or another. Even the characters that were just cited of being sent to the void followed this rule (like daredevil or quicksilver). I believe this movie was meta, non in a 4-th wall break way, but as a commentary on the franchises themselves. It's a farewell to the fox universe that wants the audience to remember the movies as they were and why they liked it in the first place and to not disregard them just because they're not in the mcu(sacred timeline), while giving some happy endings/fan service to those almost forgotten characters all in a fun action packed movie. There are many, many more scenes that have a mostly symbolic meaning (digging the grave, wolverine being the "wrong one", not changing the past, critique of multiverse, ...) but I think I've made my point clear.
To take almost every single line in this film and make it double layered, first serving the in film narrative and then second to have an overal meta meaning is pure genius. The time it would've taken to write it this way... its like an easter egg in every sentence uttered. I don't understand how people can say that this isn't "original" I've never seen this done in a film in my life and I've probably watched like a thousand movies. People saying it was boring just tells me that they couldn't look beyond the basic narrative purpose of these lines. This film has to be one of my favourites ever, it pays so much homage to the films and comics I grew up experiencing.
I wanna make a point on the "He's right behind me, isn't he" joke I personally give it some credit because he DOES make a joke about that line, because right after that line, he says "Welcome to the MCU... you kinda joined at a low point"
@@BlackThreath1234 It happened to me that some people's laughs didn't let me hear some lines. maybe something like that happened, the line goes by rather quick. but you are right.
Schafferillas calling himself a bitter, jaded 26 year-old man is ironic when he clearly uses similar puns and jokes nearly on par with Deadpool's comedy in many of his videos.
Fun Fact: Despite what Cinephiles have told you for years, Deadpool & Wolverine is the Very First MCU movie to make use of the "He's right behind me, isn't he" and the "Well that just Happened" trope EDIT: Thank you guys for letting me know that "Errmm akctually Thor 4 did it first", because unlike you lovely people, i don't actually watch Terrible Movies that i know are Terrible because everyone said it was Terrible.
Yeah, I feel like the Deadpool’s tone was a clear enough indicator that he was being sarcastic or mocking anyone who genuinely agreed with what he was saying
@@fairsaa7975 considering deadpool 2 had a running gag about wade considerng cable racist for killing someone who called himself "black tom cassidy", it is pretty obvious it is meant to be ironic and or parodic.
I went into this movie terrified Deadpool was going to be crazy censored by Disney, so I loved the part where Deadpool and Wolverine have hot, steamy, graphic sex with a Honda Odyssey for 17 hours straight
The “He’s right behind me” joke was very clearly ironic, and they definitely acknowledged it. I mean, he says “welcome to the MCU btw” immediately after. Can’t get much more blatant than that
Deadpool broke up with Vanessa because he felt that she didn't see him as 'good enough' for her. Thats why he tried to join the avengers, so that he could be a 'real hero' and feel adequate for this woman hes sacrificed so much for. It's a really sweet and human tale, i feel bad for both sides.
I can understand how the non-linear way this is portrayed might trip up an average viewer. However this entire channel is about reviewing and critiquing media. You would think he'd put a bit more effort into making sure he actually understood what he watched before making a review. Personally, I felt the breakup was a little shoehorned in. Not out of a misunderstanding of the order of events, but because it's hard to break such a strong preexisting writing pattern. Deadpool's motives in the first two movies are intertwined with his love of Vennesa. Wanting her approval and wanting to know what she wants him to do once she's gone. It would be really hard to break that cycle.
@@anothermiddleschoolburnout8816 that's what I was thinking. He even said that he didn't see why Deadpool and Wolverine became good friends. Like, bro, that relationship is built up over the entire movie and especially in the final scenes. Idk how he missed that stuff
Deadpool randomly getting Adamantium swords. Is kinda funny. Like just give the man who fights friends and enemies the omega weapon. Anyhow love the movie. The biginning credit is so funny.
The issue for me with this is that they threw that into the movie out of nowhere, in none of the previous two movies do they ever make it a point that Vanessa feels Wade is not an adequate partner, and I don't think they ever show Wade being insecure about this, he is insecure about what the experiment did to him in the first movie, but that was way before, and at the end of the second movie they're even planning on having children, I would've like them to at least try to show a little more about the breakup.
The Good Riddance montage at the end honestly made me tear up. This movie was written for the 30+ year olds in the audience, I think, which is probably why it didn't really hit with Schaff. The resistance members says it all, man. It was fun AND hit me right in the feels. I wonder how the friends I used to go to those superhero movies with are doing.
Yeah I was rolling my eyes at first because bringing Captain America back felt like blatant nostalgia pandering so I was fully blindsided by that reveal and it got me. Also, I feel like it’s less nostalgia pandering than it could’ve been simply because it’s near universally agreed that all the fantastic four movies suck
Don't let this video change whether or not to see the movie. From my standpoint and many others, this was a very good movie that handled a lot with character introductions and reintroductions and a good story without it feeling like there is too much actually happening. The opening is amazing, and it has a pretty good ending. I do agree that the middle was a bit slower, but it still wasn't bad by any means
The main thing I loved about this story was honestly the fact that they brought back some many mutants in a way that the comics also did for this kind of story and I especially loved the whole fight scene with the mutants it was honestly such a well done scene, oh and also they brought my favorite X-Men from the new X-Men 97 series, “Names Gambit Mon Ami Remember It”

The only thing Colossus says in the movie is "Great British Bake Off". I'm not joking. Also the best joke was when Greatest Showman played on the radio in the car fight scene
Man,I loved that scene but God if I wish it was used when Deadpool was searching for another Wolverine ,like he just goes from one universe to another and he finds himself in that movie.
they announced the soundtrack before the movie came out and The Greatest Show was included, so knowing that i was dying of laughter when it was only played for one second in the car
I'm pretty sad that of all characters from the second movie they didn't bring back Russell. He was the driving force behind Wade's emotional growth and learning to let other people into his life and dammit it was pretty wholesome.
Russell was annoying as shit, I'm sorry. But I am pretty shocked he didn't show up or at least was acknowledged in this film as you just said, he was a driving force behind Wade.
I understand that the movie lacked a good story. But to be fair, was that what anyone WANTED? I mean both Deadpool and Wolverine have already had their story play out- all the emotional found family, and coming into self-actualization stuff was over. The movie was exactly what it was supposed to be, an homage to these characters that have been pushed aside because they don't fit into the larger MCU, and to he honest we probably won't see again. I mean that was the underlying message of the whole movie, at least as I saw it (Deadpool gets rejected by the MCU, Wolverine isn't considered a good enough hero, they get thrown into a literal wasteland of characters Disney, probably won't ever touch, they almost get erased from existence.) It delivered everything I feel the fans wanted- in the time they were given, before their plug was pulled. The end credit behind the scenes homage to the X-man universe almost made me cry.
I've noticed that Schafrillas is the literal embodiment of an Oscar critic, giving praise to all the technical things in a movie and missing out on the important part, which is "is the movie fun". Like honestly who cares about the story in a Deadpool movie
I'm just gonna say this but this comment is an extremely underrated analysis of the movie and it made me want to watch it again. Like, Deadpool wanting to be a person that "matters" by becoming a part of the MCU is such perfect commentary to the state of these movies and how these characters are more than them and deserve to be respected.
exactly, it’s Deadpool, nobody expects a crushingly deep story And this movie DOES have a good story and it’s fair share of good emotional moments I went and I had so much fun watching it, very good movie
The movie was good (for me). The humor landed (with me). And honestly, good for you, but don't go around thinking that just because you enjoyed it everyone else is as easily pleased.

I really loved the movie, hit after hit for me and my friends. The plot could’ve used work but as an r rated comedy it blew me out of the water especially with Disney backing it. I haven’t actually laughed at a comedy movie in YEARS, and that was only because I was forced by my roommate to watch step brothers 5 years ago.
4:24 probably my biggest issue with the video is this point right here, because the whole point is that wolverine doesn't wanna be there, that's basically him and deadpools dynamic
@jonathanleemederos1670 Idk how bro its literally Deadpool and Wolverine, Probably the most interesting mutants in Marvel. And they're literally in a wasteland of past Marvel characters. And the Deadpool core how is that stuff not cool.
Its Deadpool. The previous movies prove more than anything that you shouldn't be going into it for a good well written story. You go into it expecting some ridiculous shit.
I do think it needed some better writing but the tribute during the credits really stuck the message of the movie for me personally. It’s about rebounding from failure and how that failure makes you who you are and how you got here. Yes it’s a very simple message but the credits showing the bad and the good Fox Era Movies really brought things together. We wouldn’t be where we’re at with this movie if all the other stuff didn’t happen before.
Deadpool randomly getting Adamantium swords. Is kinda funny. Like just give the man who fights friends and enemies the omega weapon. Anyhow love the movie. The biginning credit is so funny.
1:47 The thing is, Deadpool 2 DID have a variation of that joke. When Wade is talking to his friends, insulting Cable, he says “and he’s right behind you, isn’t he?” and the others turn to see Cable.
I love how a majority of the comments for this video are: “Never let bro cook again” “You missed the point of this movie” “Why does anyone take you seriously?” “12 fans? BRUHHH” “Did we watch the same movie?” “What a rare L take” “As a jaded __ year-old…” “This is supposed to be fun, not a masterpiece” …I think you get it at this point.
As someone who has broken up with amazing people over my own self doubts and questions of importance, I felt for Deadpool. He wants to matter. That was the point of the break up.
Honestly, I do think scaff is the wrong audience for this, I’m a 17 year old and I went to see it with my dad who is about 50 and we both enjoyed it so much, we were constantly laughing, and we even consider it to be a top 5 mcu film. And I mainly think that it is better for a more casual teen oriented audience as I didn’t care about its story as easily and didn’t need well structured thought out and well timed jokes to laugh. I say anyone should definitely try it out to see if it clicks for you, if not, it got you out the house and in the cinema. Just make sure to go with at least one loved one
This isn't a movie that meant to be a movie that is consider a " good movie" as in it hits all the boxes. And sha tends to look for a " good movie", I loved it, I went for Deadpool himself and that's it.
I concur- I went with my dad yesterday, who’s way more of a comic book nerd than I am, and we both had a great time together. It made me enjoy spending time with someone I loved.
Definitely made for more my 40 year old grew-up-with-Hugh-Jackman-as-Wolverine celebration of the movies Fox made. The ending credits had me nostalgia weepy
Respectfully, I find it kinda funny that Schaff has a problem with modern MCU humor, like when characters are too ironic after making intentionally cheesy or unfunny jokes, when almost all his videos have that exact same style of humor. Also, this review felt needlessly...critical? But not in a poignant way that says something about what the film is, but rather based on what the film clearly isn't. I respect that it just wasn't his thing, and I'm not saying the movie's a masterpiece or anything. It definitely has its issues. But his arguments didn't feel well reasoned.
I hate that you have to make that distinction. Why do people think if we don't agree with a reviewer that we are dickriders. The internet still confuses me with how many idiots there are.
Love that the video is majority schaff talking about him not liking the movie, and all the comments are talking about how much they enjoyed the movie 😂 I enjoyed it personally, my cinema audience found it pretty funny which is always a nice experience. I dont think it was The Best Movie Ever but I did enjoy the heck out of it.
SPOLIERS: for me the wolverine storyline worked well, with him getting wasted and leaving people that he cared about behind and then mercilessly killing the townspeople who did it, then going back to the town to be belittled and hated by the community.
Deadpool and Wolverine was honestly really great and enjoyable imo, and definitely one of the highest points of the post-Endgame MCU so far. Rather than just being a multiverse-hopping cameo fest, which it is to a degree, it feels like a love-letter to the Fox Marvel films in general and both shows respect and care for it as much as it also makes fun of it. This also has probably some of the best directed action scenes I’ve seen in an MCU film as well, with the last fight scene in particular being a definite treat. There were some minor issues I had (I do think the new Logan’s backstory could’ve been explored better, rather than it just being told and not shown to us), but overall it’s the most fun I’ve had in theaters all year and I’m largely considering seeing it again.
Yeah, pretty much. I thought this was a nice conclusion to Deadpool, Wolverine, 20th Century Fox Marvel Era and pretty much Marvel from the 2000's instead of an entry that would change the MCU forever. I'm happy with what we got.
Ok, it's fine not to like the movie. But when you're saying stuff that isn't true is where it becomes hard to listen to these reviews. It feels like you haven't really kept really up to date with Marvel stuff (like having to watch loki to get the whole TVA stuff), which I don't blame you. But I wanna say this. 1) colossus does speak in the movie 2) the "he's right behind me" joke was making fun of how Marvel has stopped low to that humour in previous films. It wasn't serious, lol. 3) Adult movies will have swearing in it. Idk what else to tell you. Wasn't really overdone, in my opinion. 4) I agree that some of the pacing was slow.
Like the other 2 Deadpool movies had a LOT of swearing in them Part of me feels like he probably didn’t watch the other 2 cuz idk why that point is specific for this movie alone
I’m personally a huge fan as this movie was more so a love letter to Hugh and Ryan’s friendship than anything else. I’m at least relieved Disney didn’t try messing with it nearly as much as they do with most other films.
I recognized that this movie realistically has a lot of flaws, but the Fox Marvel movies have had a weirdly important place in key moments of my life, even if most of them are pretty bad, so I really liked Deadpool and Wolverine. It felt like saying goodbye to an era of superhero films that I grew up with, in particular the scene with Alioth, which oddly got me somewhat choked up. Same with the montage during the credits. I know this makes me sound like I’m just eating up corporate slop, but I was on a journey with these films, and now that they’re finally over, I’m excited for the next chapter of my life.
The Fox Marvel movies had a special place in my childhood as well. Mostly Fantastic Four and the first three X-Men movies. Seeing that tribute in the end credits was beautiful. I'll miss that era, even if it was really flawed.
I feel exactly like this. I know the fox movies were pretty bad most of the times, but I've watched most of them as a kid and they made me the comic book geek I am today, and I think it's completely valid to be invested in a simple story that exist only to pay homage and say goodbye to an era of superheroes movies that by all means will never return
I wouldn't say MOST of the Fox Marvel movies are bad. There's plenty of good ones they've made, plenty of mid ones, and some pretty bad or plain awful ones. And honestly, them making that first X-Men movie in 2000 did a lot for the comic book movie genre at the time and I'm grateful for that

I'm pretty sure the "he's right behind me isn't he" line was supposed to be making fun of that joke and how it's been used as the prime example of MCU humor for so long, since the literal next line after that was Deadpool looking at Wolverine and saying "welcome to the MCU, you're joining at a bit of a low point." Or maybe I'm reading too far into it and the joke is just stupid.
I really love how honest this review was. I really expected you to like tear into this movie after seeing your review on Letterboxd. But I really love how you acknowledged that you weren’t the right audience for the movie and that anyone else would probably enjoy it. In a time where making fun of the MCU is practically expected (I’m saying this as an Ex Mcu fan), it’s nice to see a respectful, honest and valid review of an MCU movie instead of just shitting on it for the sake of shitting on it. Great review!
More movie reviewers need to understand that it's okay to not be the target audience for a film. Not all media is for everyone, and that's okay. Doesn't mean the end result is bad per se, it's just not speaking to you.
@@dappunk1people think it’s a decline and it’s (imo) just become a trend now. Everyone hates marvel because “marvel sucks! Marvel boo! Yucky marvel!” And you wanna be one of the cool people so you echo that idk. I think the only truly bad movies/shows in phase 4 are eternals, Thor 4, quantumania (which I believed to have redeeming qualities), and secret invasion. People act like every movie that comes out is a shit pile but I disagree wholeheartedly. Shang-chi, black widow, the marvels these are all *good* (in my subjective opinion) movies. Most of these are solid and/or fun and I think there are some really great projects in there like Loki seasons 1 and 2, Spider-Man far from home, guardians 3 holy cow, i really enjoyed Dr Strange multiverse of madness and I’m so confused how most people don’t but the hate train had already been started. Moonknight was also really good. It just annoys me, man. People come with the expectation to hate the movie (because it’s the cool thing to do now) and they’re completely blinded by that unless the movie is undeniably incredible (like guardians 3) for example the marvels: i really enjoyed. It’s not a masterpiece or anything but it’s a good movie and it really sucked to see people suddenly just hating on it. In the end, this is all just my personal feelings (and probably personal attachment to the characters and franchise) this is all subjective, but it’s also something I’m passionate about. The only complaint about this movie that I agree with is the fact that he and Vanessa broke up off-screen. Why the HELL did they do that?? Their relationship in the first movie was precious, the second one killed her off and then brought her back, her presence could still be felt throughout the whole story... and in the third one, they barely interact? Is it because their relationship was so intensely sexual, that Disney thought they couldn't dabble into it? They still made plenty of sex jokes between Deadpool and Wolverine, so why censor Vanessa?? That was very unfortunate to me.
I think it was easily the funniest of the three Deadpool movies. All issues and the weak story aside, it was so much fun and I had a blast watching it in my packed local Cinemark theater last night!

6:53 I don’t know, I feel like dismissing movies that existed before the MCU is a inherently cynical view of them, especially when they tie in thematically to the movie. Like, the movie itself knows that not everything made prior to the MCU or made by other studios is perfect, but that they still matter and allow closure for those characters. Especially since X-Men is where Kevin Feige and Hugh Jackman got their start, this felt more like a love letter to the Legacy Marvel movies than an MCU movie.
Agreed, the fact the even brought back Blade, who has gone unmentioned since his films were finished, proves the people creating this film cared for the original Marvel films
I absolutely loved the montage of the old x-men movies’ cast and production moments during the credits. It was a beautiful look back and, for me, shined a light on filmmaking that pretty much all movies tend to hide(because professionalism), which is the *people* behind these productions. These actors and set hands throughout the years have given us so many magical moments in these movies, and to humanize them by showing the sets without sfx and the moments behind the camera really touched me. It definitely wouldn’t work as well for a regular, one-shot movie, but the legacy these movies have left for us I think was beautifully captured there. I would say it’s also a great send off for Hugh Jackman, but if we’re being realistic, Disney isn’t gonna let him stop anytime soon

I like this take
Beautifully put.
I think it’s about friendship
I really think people are overreacting to this, that wasn’t even the best joke in the movie I just took it as Deadpool being Deadpool
This is also the second time he's made this joke, he said something similar in Deadpool 2 when Cable showed up at Blind Al's place. I feel like the intention of the line was pretty clear.

I think he only made this video for money not because he cared about it.
A universe Deadpool was willing to give up to join another, or it was the one he agreed to live in bc Thor is gonna cry over him eventually? Or did he save both? He was willing to let one universe die and then pretended it mattered, or the whole time he wanted to save a universe he never went to.

Two small corrections: Yes Deadpool did indeed say "Welcome to the MCU" after "He's right behind me isn't he", so that line definitely had intent behind it.
I don’t think they should join on the main adventure or even go into the void at all, but maybe have them on their world trying to find out what’s going on.

right but fun movies can also be really good
Hard disagree.
The other deadpool movies have actual heart though
I think people forget that Deadpool 1 and 2 aren't really super amazing storywise if you pick apart pieces from it like this film. But whatever MCU criticism is popular now (something this film acknowledged fully)
@@JMXicothey’re not groundbreaking stories or anything, but Deadpool 1 and 2 definitely had more heart and emotions than the silly murder merc movie needed. The first one is a legit romance and 2 is all about found family. Again, nothing groundbreaking but way more genuine than I’d expect from Deadpool, which made those movies more fun to watch since I’m actually emotionally invested in these characters
Deadpool and Wolverine felt very hollow in that regard, it’s easily the weakest of the trilogy as it has less heart and the same jokes from Deadpool 1.
I absolutely agree, this was a better analysis of the film than the actual vid!
U articulate what I was feeling so well
The void dragged on so long and the stakes were so contrived.
Seeing the bloopers with Pat and Ian made me tear up a bit realizing they're not gonna be around forever in the near future.
Paradox wanted to reboot the franchise by destroying the timeline
The "marvel Jesus" bit was Deadpool recognizing this and accepting to be the only character Disney cared/allowed to bring to the MCU.
W yap
To take almost every single line in this film and make it double layered, first serving the in film narrative and then second to have an overal meta meaning is pure genius. The time it would've taken to write it this way... its like an easter egg in every sentence uttered. I don't understand how people can say that this isn't "original" I've never seen this done in a film in my life and I've probably watched like a thousand movies. People saying it was boring just tells me that they couldn't look beyond the basic narrative purpose of these lines. This film has to be one of my favourites ever, it pays so much homage to the films and comics I grew up experiencing.

Can’t get much more blatant than that
crqzy how he missed that lol, that was the entire joke
That seems more like an interpretation of the joke rather than intentionally done.
Agreed!
SPOILER:
I found the human torch reveal to be absolutely hilarious and a genius, subversive callback. I did not see it coming and boy did I enjoy it
Yeah I was rolling my eyes at first because bringing Captain America back felt like blatant nostalgia pandering so I was fully blindsided by that reveal and it got me.

I'm pretty sad that of all characters from the second movie they didn't bring back Russell. He was the driving force behind Wade's emotional growth and learning to let other people into his life and dammit it was pretty wholesome.
Because he undid his quest at the end of 2 by saving his girlfriend.
You mean the worst thing about Deadpool 2?
Russell was annoying as shit, I'm sorry. But I am pretty shocked he didn't show up or at least was acknowledged in this film as you just said, he was a driving force behind Wade.
I agree.
Yeah, I guess it was because of time shenanigans, but still. I would have liked an acknowledgement.
"When is any of this gonna end?"
When they're 90.
I mean that was the underlying message of the whole movie, at least as I saw it (Deadpool gets rejected by the MCU, Wolverine isn't considered a good enough hero, they get thrown into a literal wasteland of characters Disney, probably won't ever touch, they almost get erased from existence.)
It delivered everything I feel the fans wanted- in the time they were given, before their plug was pulled.

I did also really enjoy it as a love letter towards those movies, although I will also say that it could have been a better movie as a whole

0:06 this is now the only reason i have to actually watch the movie
guys this is a reference to skibidi toilet ep 452 part 4 act 2 chapter 8
@@GAT957I’m not a big fan of Skibidi toilet but I’ll admit that’s pretty accurate 💀
1:47 in Deadpool 2, he talks shit about cable and says, He’s right behind you, isn’t he. So they already did the variation
I am a bit sad to hear Schaf didn't enjoy it that much. This is easily my favorite of the Deadpool movies and probably of all the Fox Marvel movies
Logan was sooo much better but I agree it was a lot of fun
@@katlyndobransky2419
I had more ENJOYMENT from the DP3 than I did Logan but Logan was amazing
@@mattrare4459 movies can be both enjoyable AND good, sadly this one decides on its own that it can't do both
I saw it twice. I liked it both times.

Yep, you said it yourself: You are the wrong audience for this movie.
It is no masterpiece, but it was the most fun I had with something out of Hollywood since Everything, Everywhere, All at once...
I'ma have to disagree with you on this one my guy
Why
@@whitefang-zm9ztcan’t speak for this guy but for me personally, I wasn’t looking for the Godfather part 4 or anything; this was just a fun, entertaining movie. I loved it from start to finish and thought it did a great job of paying homage to the Fox era of Marvel movies and did a good job bridging that gap with the MCU. I thought the Wolverine variants were great, as was the journey in the void etc, and liked the idea of Deadpool wanting to belong
Same
I just saw the movie and it was kind of shocking when I learned that Schaffrillas didn't like it. It was a pretty fun experience imo. I'm 26 too
cuz ur weird the movie sucks cope harder and sIit
Was is a great story? No. What is fun? ABSOLUTELY.
Not really

Good. The further away, the better.
best opening from a marvel movie?
answer: yes
The opening scene was so good, and it just happened that a five year old walked in with their parent's during it
Bot
deadpool 1 and 2's openings were better
Baby bye bye bye 🕺🏻
@@GodOfTables Well? Did they stay like psychos, or did they immeadiately realise they fcked up and leave?
The only complaint about this movie that I agree with is the fact that he and Vanessa broke up off-screen. Why the HELL did they do that?? Their relationship in the first movie was precious, the second one killed her off and then brought her back, her presence could still be felt throughout the whole story... and in the third one, they barely interact? Is it because their relationship was so intensely sexual, that Disney thought they couldn't dabble into it? They still made plenty of sex jokes between Deadpool and Wolverine, so why censor Vanessa?? That was very unfortunate to me.
Henry Cavill’s Wolverine cameo was so good and so funny
I think it was easily the funniest of the three Deadpool movies. All issues and the weak story aside, it was so much fun and I had a blast watching it in my packed local Cinemark theater last night!
@Joseph_14441Report
Yeah, it was pretty fun. All the banters between Deadpool & Wolverine are hilarious. I personally think this was weakest Deadpool movie, but it's still good :)
@Joseph_14441Didn’t read your comment, but I’m sure your videos are pure dogshit compared to these ones😂
“I’m not into these movies anymore”, damn bro went from making videos saying we take the mcu for granted, to now shitting on it film twitter brain rot is real
What does that mean?
Exactly. It didn’t feel or even seem like an MCU movie. Just a nod to older marvel. And I enjoyed that.
Yeah I didn't understand Schaffrillas' take on it.
1:50 honestly I always interpreted Deadpool’s line afterward “welcome to the MCU, you’re joining at kind of a low point” as a jab at that line
The action in this was top tier MCU action, the intro, the car fight scene it was all so good
It had really good fights, and OMG that opening scene was my favorite.
With imortal characters that cant feel anything...
@@sonofcronos7831Wtf? Can’t feel anything? Francis couldn’t feel anything. Deadpool and Wolverine absolutely can.
