Thanks for the lesson. My radio went dead. I saw this video and followed the same logic. I pulled the radio fuses (7 & 41 on an E46) and both tested ok. I thought it was something in the head unit. Then I saw this video and thought the same may apply for the radio as well as the instrument cluster. I started the car before and then reinstalled one by one and it reset whatever went offline. Good video and easy to understand. Thanks for the help.

Thank you! had a similar problem with by old 94' BMW, no gauges were moving but the speed, and two brake lights turned on, but the car works fine. turned the key on with engine off, took out random 1 of 4 relevant fuses and put it back in, checked, and everything was back as usual. 3>
Good clear video. I have similar problem but on my E46 the speedometer and the tac meter is not working. All other lights work. I also did the cluster test by going in the test mode. All lights and needles move as they should.
@@HowToDoitright I am not sure to be honest. The lights came on during the lock down period as I was not driving much and the car battery had drained to the extent that I had to call out the RAC to start the car. One thing I do remember is that a few month ago I did scrub the rust away from the rear rotors as it was making a humming noise whilst reversing and applying the break gently. Maybe the rust particles might have something to do with it.
@@HowToDoitright Ok . Well atm I am still driving it with the speedometer and milage counter not working . It is stuck on 64k. The fuel guage works if there is enough fuel in the tank but as soon as the low fuel light comes on the digital range keeps fluctuating from low 30s to high 50s as the car is moving.
I have a 2003 BMW Z4 3.0 with the same issue, no instrument panel. Instrument panel fuses are 12 23 and 24. For this model car you have to leave in the #12 fuse to start the car. Once you put the #23 fuse in your instrument panel should be back good as new. Great advice, thanks
Thanks dude. Fuse number 10 had been removed, I’ve now replaced it and my trip computer etc is working! However, it’s now got an airbag warning light on. I guess the previous owner did it to hide the warning light and get the car through the MOT test. Also the temperature gauge is just saying +50c. Does it just need to be recalibrated? I live in England, not the Middle East. It’s definitely not 50c. Thanks.

Then it’s dead. There are services on eBay that you can mail it to and they fix it and send you once repaired normally the next day. Other option is buy a used one on eBay close to your mileages and plug it in. They work just fine but you will have a dot next to the mileage hinting that cluster has been altered. So if you can live with a dot you are good to go. Used ones on eBay can cost you around 50bucks. They work fine.
Im not sure whats wrong with mine but ik at first everything was working fine then after starting it one morning i think my starter blew but shortly after that i tried to start it again and now my radio wont work my lights come on and off on their own and its not pusbing enough power for me to even use an analyzer but the battery is pretty much brand new ans when i start it it rests at 12 volts to 11
Reptilian Fanatic your battery is going bad. These cars are very sensitive and won’t work if voltage is low. Good battery voltage is between 12.4-12.6 volts
Hello guys, I have a weird issue. My E46 had a bad fuel pump, chabged the pump as well as the fuel leveler(driver side). Now my Fuel Cluster doesnt move, tried resetting the car from the hidden menu, as well as unplug/replug the battery but no sign of life, fuel level still at 0. Any idea what it can be? Does the new pump/leveler need calibration?
@@HowToDoitright hi, yes it does move whilw testing it from the hidden menu. Which sensor do you mean? Is it deep in the tank? Or the sensor under the backseat(driver side)?
@@StormyX honestly not sure just assuming some kind of sensor in tank which tell the speedometer. Anything you can try is another cluster and see if it works.

Akhil Narain, one day ago, the exact same thing happened to my E46 just as you described. My cluster is also dead and the fuse reinsertion procedure in this video did not work for me. I also replaced the fuses in slots 10, 34, and 43 (5 amps each) but the cluster is still dead. At this point, I can only assume that when the car battery was replaced, it somehow shorted the cluster circuit board.
This happened to me after replacing a dead battery at work. Driving home, after a couple of miles everything came back to life. So weird the electronics in these cars.
I also had the exact thing to my bmw e46 2004. My instrument cluster dead and so do the AC compressor. I did the trick in this video but nothing happened. After i brought my car to profesional bmw mechanic, The problem is with the instrument cluster IC. Now my instrument cluster solved, and AC compressor automatically on. No more problem.

Good clear video. I have similar problem but on my E46 the speedometer and the tac meter is not working. All other lights work. I also did the cluster test by going in the test mode. All lights and needles move as they should.
Curious Did that issue started after a rain? Mine went bad after rain and humidity. I left my windows open by mistake and that killed my meter

@ How To Do It. Mine went bad after a rainstorm too. What meter did it kill? How did you fix the problem?
Kenya Gardner in my case it end up failing all meters eventually. I gave up and bought a second hand meter from eBay with close to similar mileage.

Try the cluster reset test. I have it on my channel on how to do it. Check E46 playlist
This just worked for me as soon as I put fuse 34 back in everything came up. But why? Is this some sort of shortcut reset?
You are lucky it did. Yes it’s like a power reset. For some users it doesn’t work.
Having issues, No gauges, no lights, checked all fuses good. What does putting them in with car on do?

Does it move at all with the test on cluster? If yes then it’s the sensor in the tank
