Ofcourse. Same in Judo. Your coach should respect your choice to be either a "Dojo player" who helps train the competitors, or if you want to be a competitor yourself, a good coach should help you with that too.
Just started Bjj but am thinking about taking up judo, went to check out a local judo club and the training intensity seemed to be higher. Thanks for the this video I think I just might take up judo as well by going for a free trial class(I think there were some local as well as international competitors training there as well)

Judo is awesome! I studied it when I was young and would like to take it up again but, I'm 57 now and am afraid that my body can't do it anymore. Any suggestions anyone?
Judge Gently i think you should try it. At the beggining they will go easy on you but then in the future you will be able to do everything fine, and it's really good for your health. Good luck ~
Not trying to stop you, but I just started to relearn Judo after decades of hibernation and it is definitely taking a toll on my body with lots of skin abrasions, bruises, sore muscles, etc. and I am quite a few years younger than you are. Oddly enough sparring in Karate class was far less painful than Judo lessons.
The symptoms that you describe will occur irrespective of your age. The primary element that age affects is your recovery time. My suggestion is to practice Judo nonetheless.
There are good schools and bad schools; this is one of the good ones. The instructor is genuinely knowledgable and isn't trying to hard to be aggressive or come off like some rough kneck.
I used to do Judo but then i quit 2 yrs ago because I was so good at it and I also wanted to learn about other styles of martial arts too not just be some guy who's only good at Judo & nothing else.
I know my comment is a year late but it will be perfect for boxing! I’ve been doing Judo for 20 years and combing it with a dominant striking art like boxing will definitely turn you into a strong competitor.
If you take a jeet kune do approach where you have the dominant hand forward then you can really combine judo with anything. Personally I'd recommend something like wing chun since it doesn't really require a set stance or a form of karate since it makes up for having no striking in judo
Jack Wilson No wing chun, no jeet kune do, sorry but stick to the stuff that’s proven to work, wrestling bjj judo sambo kickboxing boxing Muay thai kyukoshin karate (or however it’s spelled - the one that utilises hard sparring) maybe shotokan karate if it’s sport based and not kata based, etc if you want to know that it will work, basically any martial art that can also be called a combat sport
@@quantumblurrr you're right but I was thinking about more of a seemless combination which can be done with relative ease rather than a ufc style which would be dominant in a fight but would leave you open when shifting between styles. It much more difficult to switch stances during a close quarters fight than one would think.
I'm a kickboxer do Muay Thai and karate, but done couple of judo jiu jitsu lessons, and I found side stance was good stance for not being taken down just wanted to know any judo people out there whether side stance is good or shit for grappling ??

On the off chance that you reply to comments (I can see you're a big channel), I was wondering what your opinion is on Judo compared to Jiu-Jitsu as self defense against people who may be armed with drug needles. I am a fairly small man at 5 ft 3', slim build (basically a human stick). I work as the attendant of a public toilet which puts me in a position where I have to deal with drug addicts who have come in to shoot up, and have found that some of them are actually quite violent. I'm looking at joining self defense classes in either judo or jujitsu, but not sure which is best for such opponents.
buy a taser or pepper spray, or simply leave the area until something can be done. no job is worth taking some junkie's needle. but to answer your question, i think judo is more applicable/ your goal shouldnt be to submit them, judo is great for getting them on the ground and getting yourself into a safer situation. no need to get on the ground with them

Shouldn't be worried about belts, but just getting better and learning the art.
Skip the first 50 seconds to avoid the unnecessary sales pitches.
If the whole point is to get them to the ground and hold them, can’t I just single leg(wrestling)and get them on the ground?
If you know how to single or double leg, sure.
