Well the purpose of x pipes from what I’ve researched and learned (youtube certified knowledge) is to cause exhaust temps to reach a higher temperature helping them travel through the exhaust system a lot faster! Therefore placing x pipes further apart would help keep a higher temperature throughout the exhaust a little more vs. placing them back to back. Well at least this is me trying to put 2 and 2 together. I plan on placing an xpipe on every resonator that I remove! And switch the muffler to borla ATAK!

@@dixiefabauto9830 I sincerely enjoyed this video & THANKS for posting it.
Over the years, I've done countless hours of research on H-pipes & X-pipes, etc. Believe me...the closer they are to the header collectors...the better.
They need to be "a bit" downstream...BUT...not too far.
In the "good ol' days", we'd spray paint about 3 feet of the exhaust from the collectors back...then drive the car at highway speeds for about 30 minutes.
Straight back to the shop & up on the rack. The burnt section of paint would reveal
where the hot spot in the exhaust "truly is". This is the correct place for the H-pipe.
      Regarding X-Pipes:
They need to be "near" the collectors...not too far downstream.
There are 3 advantages an X-pipe has over an H-pipe:
1.) It will perfectly balance the exhaust pulses of each bank on a V-8//V-6 engine.
2.) It will increase exhaust velocity & provide extremely efficient scavenging of the exhaust gasses from the combustion chambers.
3.) It stabilizes the exhaust sound wave; which is pleasant to us "gear-heads" :-)
Both 1 & 2 will allow the engine to "breathe" more freely; producing more HP & Tq.
On a properly tuned engine, these increases will be realized throughout the RPM range...considering a 500+ HP engine with 3" exhaust pipes.
      Regarding Dual X-pipes:
There are no benefits to the engine by placing a 2nd X-pipe in the exhaust system. This is true if the two X-pipes are mated or if the 2nd X-pipe is further downstream.
It doesn't hurt anything...BUT...no additional horsepower & torque gains will be seen. One...properly placed...X-pipe does ALL the "work".
However, the 2nd X-pipe will further "tune" the sound wave of the exhaust.
For what it's worth: There is NO benefit to "dual" H-pipes.
A "properly placed" H-pipe serves 1 purpose; to balance exhaust pulses of a V-8//V-6.
Still, an X-pipe performs this function with MUCH GREATER efficiency.
The "H" design will not improve combustion chamber scavenging or exhaust velocity. An additional H-pipe in the exhaust system serves absolutely NO purpose. NONE. Respectfully,
      Ben

How would this sound on a Silverado ? No cats double x pipe? 5.3

    • @dixiefabauto9830
      @dixiefabauto9830  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

It would be tricky on a Silverado. The Silverado is not a "true dual" exhaust. They bring each side of the engine into 1 pipe right after the upstream cats. To do this you would have to make the system true dual first but I image it would help produce a very "deep" smooth tone rather than the "clacky" noise the Silverado's usually have.

We were still figuring out audio settings when filming this and that actually really took away from what happened in this build. We have done more Camaro exhaust than we could count but this was the first time we had ever done legitimate double x-pipes. We had no idea what would happen and the customer was completely willing to gamble on it. But we were pleasantly surprised with the results, as was the customer. Here is what we noticed... It took the "sharpness" away and gave the exhaust a very "deep" note throughout the powerband. It also took the typical drone level with running no mufflers WAY down. The pitch is also very clean and well harmonized. Not sure if there is an actual performance benefit but the sound was a step above what we normally hear out of these cars! Thank you for the feed back! We do appreciate the like and comment!
