My grandpa wasn't diagnosed with dementia until his last week of his life. He was always doing cross word puzzles and what not. One of his fears of alztimers disease which thankfully he never got. When I would call the nursing home to talk to him it was hard to talk to him. He couldn't follow the current time conversation. If I mentioned my kids he would get confused. I got to where I just listened to him. He would tell me now that I've graduated I can do anything. He would say "he better take care of you" (me getting married). All this happened 20 years ago. He would talk about the highlights of my life and I could hear the smile in his voice. I'd pretend and agree with him. I remember one time when his mind put him back when my grandmother was alive and he was yelling "JOLENE!!! PUT THE PHONE DOWN!!". Here is a tip for those with a parent who suffers this and is in a care home. Visit often, participate in their care, get to know the staff and dont keep changing care homes. The change in environment will cause them decline. Check their nails, feet and skin while you visit. Are they clean? Care homes can be snake pits but they can also be a loving, family environment.

I have type 2 diabetes and also have chronic migraines every day, along with occipital neuralgia headaches every day, so I don't get much sleep. I have been doing keto for the last 1.5 years. Not strict, but I'm going to start going stricter on that. My mom also dementia for 10 years before she passed away last month at 94 years old.
My father in law has Alzheimer's. He is 75 years old now. He cannot find the bathroom. If we are not watching he urinates in the balcony thinking it to be a toilet. He was a very hygienic person & now he doesn't even understand whether he has taken a bath or not. He has to be given a bath literally like a small child. When he wants to go to the toilet he takes a lot of time to take off his pants & there is poop all over the toilet. He rambles on illogical things...feels sleepy all the time but stays wide awake at night. He cannot recognise old friends anymore. He pretends to but we can understand. His conversation is devoid of logic. Years ago he was a successful administrative officer, very sharp, very witty & with almost photographic memory. I...never ever even in my wildest imagination thought that he would be affected with something so terrible... Alzheimer's.
The earliest sign of dementia involves retina issues. Prevention includes brain cleaning through sleep, avoiding alcohol, exercise, vitamin D, and a ketogenic diet. Niacin supplementation may help. Early detection and lifestyle changes are crucial for brain health.
I get 8 - 9 hours of sleep....but....my cat wakes me up numerous times during the night. Meows in my face....taps my nose....wants under the covers in winter. She's 18, so I deal with it, but I'd sleep so much better if she wasn't so active at night. 😊
Kia ora Dr Berg from NZ.. I voted for you today. Good luck. Your a walking encyclopedia on health topics. So awesome the knowledge you have and share. Love all your videos and posts. Thank you for all you do. 🥰😄❤🙏
Fantastic video but your sound is a little off, you sound tinny in this one. My mother passed away in 2023 from they think it was Vascular Dementia, she got recurrent UTI's and developed pneumonia from the last UTI and died from the pneumonia. My father passed away from metastased throat cancer in late 2020 and poor Mum, the grief just overwhelmed her and she went downhill so fast. Dr. Berg is right when he says that profound psychological stress such as grief is very detrimental to the immune system. Mum had been a very heavy drinker, my sister thought she had Korsakoff's syndrome for years but the dementia didn't really get out of hand until about a year after Dad died. She had even beaten triple negative breast cancer ten years before, which apparently is one of the most difficult cancers to overcome. But I just don't think she wanted to live anymore without him. They were together every single day for 47 years. ❤ At the end, my older sister and nephew had visited her for a week in the hospital but my nephew had to get back to work, he'd used up all his leave. And the morning after they flew out she had passed away. She held on right up until they had left. Linda was her eldest and by far her favourite daughter, so that was kind of beautiful that she was able to see her one last time 😭. I hope Mum and Dad are together again, they truly loved each other more than most will ever experience, but they never ever got married because they didn't believe in it. That was 50 years ago, you can imagine the flak they got because of that back in the old days but they always stayed together and for longer than most people's marriages. I miss them both so much, I have the most beautiful dreams about them. So much pure heavenly love from them in my dreams ❤️ R.I.P. Mum and Dad ❤🎉
I’ve had some cardio & inflammation issues for a bit and now I’m terrified to lose my cognitive function. Taking ur message to heart and doing my best to stay active, eat healthy and do intermittent fasting. Thank u so much ❤

I want to share this to help others. I’ve done intermittent fasting for a while but always skipped breakfast. I switched to skipping dinner and the improvement on my sleep has been incredible. No dinner for me means lower body temperature which means better sleep.
Consuming anything that doesn’t belong in our bodies is a legitimate long term health risk. All the grain and sugar based carbs, alcohol, most drugs (including pharmaceuticals), Teflon pans, smog, lead... the list is endless. The only thing that fully concerns me is that I have the right (and the courage) to “Jack Kevorkian” myself when it comes time to.
Dear Dr. Berg, I have been following you for years now, I never leave comments here it just occurred to me today to do so I want to tell you you’re amazing thank you for your rich content YOU ARE THE BEST ❤
Ive had floaters since I was 20,Im now 68. They are very common. Personally so many people have them and I dont see the connection between them and dementia.
They are just an indicator of trouble. I had plenty of floaters myself before keto. Now they are drastically reduced because I am experimenting with the data that he provides.
I had no idea that the retina could be an early warning sign for dementia - that's fascinating! It's amazing how much of our health starts with small signs we might overlook. I'm definitely going to pay more attention to my sleep, exercise, and diet. Thanks for sharing this crucial info!
I have all of those eye issues, including a torn retina, but most happened after cataract surgery. I developed cataracts after my doctor over-prescribed prednisone. Avoid that stuff whenever possible!
Yes steriods are a huge factor in dementia and affect the eyes leading t cataracts and problems with night vision but I find when i take a powerful probiotic -40 billion strength -my night driving and eye sight (with glasses is better)

He made a few videos on many of these situations. One common few ones I remember are b1, magnesium glycinate, potassium, D3&K2 and omega 3 as bare basic minimum.
Thanks Doc! I have been diving into the real reasons behind the rise of chronic illnesses and why so many people feel worse despite following mainstream health advice. Once you read it, you’ll never look at health the same way again.
Under recent laws if they turn out to be too noisy you can take them back and swap them for improved babies, make notes and remind them of this later in life should you choose to keep them. 👍

Oh, my lovely neighbour passed last week at age 99 (she was trying hard for months to reach 100). She was cognitive up until a few weeks ago. Speaking of dementia I heard something that was very important to our overall function as a race. In one of our doctor Summits the doctor mentioned how, in the past people would look up to and seek wisdom from the elders, this gave them a sense of purpose, importance and well-being which promoted good health. (Yep, before their was google there was grandma, and grandpa). Now, we place them in nursing homes to rot, often times forgetting them ( how can anyone live under such conditions?). We busy ourselves with seeking things that will not make us happy. And we neglect our past and futuren when we ignore our elders and not cultivate our young. We are apart of this deterioration. So sad.
Sometimes I feel old. Took a class at local college and when spoke with a studen on the bus, she said, we need more people like you(older?) here, so keep taking a class. Got that reaction from several young students, was nice to hear. Still tired but trying.
I’m a healthcare worker and get up at 4am and work until about 8pm. I find it difficult to sleep more than 6 hours per night even on days off, I wake up without an alarm. Any suggestions for healthcare workers and other shifts workers?

I have type 2 diabetes and also have chronic migraines every day, along with occipital neuralgia headaches every day, so I don't get much sleep. I have been doing keto for the last 1.5 years. Not strict, but I'm going to start going stricter on that. My mom also dementia for 10 years before she passed away last month at 94 years old.
it helps to go cold turkey on sugar, white flour, white rice, seed oil. don't "treat" yourself with toxins. good luck!
Ok. Some of his videos on headaches, on salt and on magnesium glycinate should help.
Such a difficult journey lies ahead…. My father-in-law also had Alzheimer’s….. it is so devastating! All the best to you and your family!!

The earliest sign of dementia involves retina issues. Prevention includes brain cleaning through sleep, avoiding alcohol, exercise, vitamin D, and a ketogenic diet. Niacin supplementation may help. Early detection and lifestyle changes are crucial for brain health.
I like avoiding exercise! Sounds like something I could do.

Thank you for emphasizing the importance of not ignoring warning signs. It's always better to act sooner rather than later.
I get 8 - 9 hours of sleep....but....my cat wakes me up numerous times during the night. Meows in my face....taps my nose....wants under the covers in winter. She's 18, so I deal with it, but I'd sleep so much better if she wasn't so active at night. 😊
Yes, cats are very nocturnal!
I love them!..❤
Try giving her a supplement from Petco. They even have melatonin for animals.

At the end, my older sister and nephew had visited her for a week in the hospital but my nephew had to get back to work, he'd used up all his leave.
So much pure heavenly love from them in my dreams ❤️
R.I.P. Mum and Dad ❤🎉
Blessings to you, to your parents, to all of your loved ones. May you meet again one day. 🙏🙌💖💫💕✨🌠🌟

Awe, thank u! Makes a lot of sense🫠
How wonderful you are Dr. Berg! You are my true source for taking good care of myself! Thanks✨️
I want to share this to help others. I’ve done intermittent fasting for a while but always skipped breakfast. I switched to skipping dinner and the improvement on my sleep has been incredible. No dinner for me means lower body temperature which means better sleep.
The introduction of statins and the rise in Alzheimers also super processed food and sugar also lack of physical exercise ...👍
What an excellent video. Thank you for this important information.
👍👍👍Keep up the videos Dr. Berg! The advice is sinking in!!!👍👍👍
I was just about to make the same comment.
Agree! Same here
Eat pineapple for floaters.
I'm 59 and have had floaters for years. They seem to have disappeared in the last few months though.
This happened to me as well. Also, from the videos and research I've done, more people in their 20's are having retina issues and surgeries!
Yes steriods are a huge factor in dementia and affect the eyes leading t cataracts and problems with night vision but I find when i take a powerful probiotic -40 billion strength -my night driving and eye sight (with glasses is better)

I wonder if letting AI do your thinking instead of using your brain is also contributing to dementia.
I'm doomed for sure then. I hardly ever get more than two hrs or less of sleep, don't exercise, don't get out in the sun, don't eat a ketogenic diet, and don't take niacin. 😢

So sad.
So true
Very true!..😢😢
Some cultures still cherish the elderly!
Sometimes I feel old. Took a class at local college and when spoke with a studen on the bus, she said, we need more people like you(older?) here, so keep taking a class. Got that reaction from several young students, was nice to hear. Still tired but trying.
